They are really committed to pushing anal sex on teenagers.

I'm not sure if you guys ever saw this because it didn't get much press, but here's another reprehensible thing Teen Vogue did in Dec 2019 (image related).
It's from a feature 'Best Gifts For Your Transgender Loved Ones'
Still absolutely amazed and not sure what the worst thing is: the idea that underage teenagers can be 'kink positive'? The idea that teenagers should be expected to buy other teenagers $150+ fetish wear? The idea that this is absolved when you buy it off a 'queer and trans Native Xicano'?
Is safeguarding not relevant when you're trans or have trans friends?

FFS ! What is going on with that “ magazine “ ?

NoWireHangersEver · 26/07/2021 12:02

Also sorry for double-posting but I'm absolutely fascinated by the odd turn in 'social justice' publishing for teenagers. I read Rookie Mag when I was younger (alt publication, cult readership, edited by a 15 year old girl) and was amazed by how the content changed before it eventually folded: it started in 2011 with sensible articles about sexual health (like normalising masturbation in private, negotiating kissing and consent, lots of anti-harassment writing, nothing that would put teen girls at risk) - and ended with lots of writing about gender and even articles about the upsides of sex work, with interviews from prostitutes.

Teen Vogue has attempted to take up Rookie Mag's aims I think: it poses itself as a socially conscious magazine for teen activists and then sneaks in all this anal sex, kink, sex work stuff. So effectively if you're a smart and mature 'alternative' teenage girl there's no intelligent, age-appropriate publication left that won't attempt to groom you for males in the name of 'sex positivity'.

A reason given for the no clitoris anal sex article s while back was that the audience was prob mainly gay blokes.

This article

'One reviewer gives Pjur Backdoor “[five] stars from a girl who never used to like anal.” But that said, despite its name, it’s not just specifically for anal—it can be used for ~other~ activities, too.'

Note girl. Not woman.

'"It is advertised as anal lube, but we use it for both [anal and vaginal sex]," wrote one reviewer. "Stays slick a long time. Completely body-safe and even vegan. Tasteless, odorless, and never stains if you spill. What more could you want in a lube?"'

'Plus, just look at that beautiful, discreet bottle. For all your roommates know, this is your face serum (and if they try to steal a bit of it, they'll be in for an interesting surprise).'
What the actual fuck??!!

The sex commentator person is s woman as well.

I didn't see any mention of men being penetrated.

Interesting.

And they can fuck off.

Nonmaquillee · 27/07/2021 05:24

I’m appalled. No words, just 😲😲😲

Clymene · 27/07/2021 07:27

Richardson recommends this silicone lubricant, which is specifically for anal, provides a powerful relaxing effect and is infused with bisabolol extract from the chamomile plant. Reviewers say it's a great choice for anal sex newbies who need help relaxing into their first time engaging in anal play.

God almighty. I just don't even have the words.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 27/07/2021 07:30

It's a grooming magazine isn't it

ikeepseeingit · 27/07/2021 07:42

I was about to comment that I thought teen vogue was for young adults 18-21 but I just googled, and this came up. I’m lost for words tbh, are they expecting 13 year old girls to read this?? Honestly, it’s disgusting. What a heavy pressure on young teen girls to have put on them to essentially ‘perform’ for the boys. If anything they should be teaching girls the right to say no and how to stay safe. Of course articles about how masturbation is normal will be healthy for them, and things about first times/ female sexual pleasure being important too would be okay to a degree, but this is a fashion magazine!? Young girls don’t come to fashion magazines for anal sex advice. Wtf.

but by those figures hardly any of the readers are teens, perhaps they have more sense

According to the Washington Examiner, quoting numbers by ComScore, Teen Vogue had 8,341,000 unique visitors in May 2017 and 4,476,000 in 2018. 1.7 percent of their May 2018 audience was 17 or younger, 2.6 percent were 18 to 24 years old

Would Ofcom be interested?

You can report to IPSO as Conde Naste, the publisher, are a member but I would recommend writing to the publisher first.

So just over 4% of its readership is aged 24 or under?

Who IS reading this? Who is writing articles (agree: GROOMING) about young teenage girls and anal sex?? 🧐

I’m genuinely sickened. As for that leather contraption….

Thank you.

I’m going to do this.

Anyone else??

Jackgrealishscurtains · 27/07/2021 09:05

What the fuck is the obsession with teenagers and anal sex?

And that line about looking 'cute and dewy all night long' - urgh. As well as everything else mentioned.

Also, slight aside, but what teenager has 40 dollars to spend on lube?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/07/2021 09:08

Yes l will.

But they will just give a stock answer.

Jackgrealishscurtains · 27/07/2021 09:11

I remember reading teen magazines when I was younger and feeling pressure that a) I wasn't having position-of-the-fortnight sex with a boyfriend b) I didn't have a 'best friend' c) I wasn't pretty like the models.

I just wasn't ready for any of the sex stuff, some girls my age were, but I just wasn't. I did love clothes and makeup though and enjoyed looking at the articles about 17 Makeup and River Island outfits.

I cannot imagine the pressure I would feel now reading Teen Vogue and feeling like I should be spending my money on lube and fetish wear for my 'transgender loved one'.

Do teenagers actually even read Teen Vogue?

Thanks for reading it in depth! But I’m even more confused. Are adults 25+ reading the teen vogue magazine then? Why are they doing that when there is the normal vogue magazine? That feels even stranger tbh.

Waitwhat23 · 27/07/2021 09:20

@Jackgrealishscurtains Looking back, I suspect the Position of the Fortnight was giggled over more than tried because it was so ludicrous but I agree with you that it put pressure on teenagers. This current stuff is on a bizarre different level - I fear it's influenced by the rise of the normalisation of extreme porn. A far cry from the 'soft porn' stuff which was around when I was a teenager.

IvyTwines2 · 27/07/2021 09:34

So I'm guessing most of 'Teen' Vogue's readers are actually adult males.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/07/2021 09:34

That’s what l was thinking.
