JV is talking about transphobia and "exclusionary" language like "woman" and "pregnant women'

“A person who has a cervix” is a ridiculous term. A quick Google tells me that 20% of women will have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives. What does that make them? Non binary? Ditto “people who menstruate” completely ignores the fact that many women don’t menstruate for various reasons, including certain forms of contraception and the menopause.

You could tell how nervous Chae was and how much they weren't trying to trip themselves up with their words. God, even these guys find the gender ideology language contortion tricky, that much was definitely clear.

@Reachersloveinterest

Apparently today is Non-Binary awareness week and so my public sector workplace are bombarding us with daily awareness emails. From today's email, on 'stepping up as an ally': -introduce yourself with name and pronoun -put pronouns in email signature -avoid gendered language like ladies and gentlemen, say 'folks' or 'pals' instead. -provide alternative titles such as Mx. -use 'their' instead of his/her. -avoid words define relationship and gender, instead focus on the relationship eg 'parent'. -make sure that your workplace/school is using inclusive language and avoiding sentences that imply two genders. They put forward Sam Smith as a fantastic non-Binary role model. From Stonewall, of course.
I’m realising more and more this is a key part of it isn’t it, why can’t it be inclusive language in addition to gendered language? Why does it have to be instead of? That’s what sets up antagonism and signifies a hierarchy.

@DobbyTheHouseElk

If you watch Jeremy on his c5 show he shows his true feelings on matters. On the BBC he won’t have an opinion.
I think Jeremy’s true feelings are pretty obvious from his BBC show.

And I think we should compare and contrast how Jenni Murray was treated for writing a piece for the Sunday Times that wasn’t considered neutral, with what Jeremy Vine is allowed to get away with both on the BBC and even more overtly away from it, while keeping his career free of all reprimand and still being able to host discussions on the topic on his BBC show.

Some BBC radio presenters are definitely more equal than others.

I wonder why that could be?

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 14/07/2021 20:31

Also, Vine’s Special Soft Voice makes me want to vomit and always has done. Absolutely loathsome.

bellend

Also Jeremy pointing out how gross the men's toilets will be for women.

Surely the men paying for their holidays will be cleaning their own shit up, in the mens blocks, if they agree to the greedy holiday park owners demands.

I missed the end of the section. I’m going to listen again. Unfortunately I missed the bit I wanted to hear. I hoped for more callers. I’m sure there were plenty who didn’t get to speak.

Yes.

Runningupthecurtains
Times in my life I've been a non menstruator before age 12.5, after age 49, while pregnant, while using certain types of contraception.
Times in my life I've not been female -none.
Clear language is important.

You're nailed it @Runningupthecurtains

Pudmyboy · 14/07/2021 21:02

Don't know why the bold didn't work when it did here!

PurpleHoodie · 14/07/2021 21:25

Paragraph breaks Pud.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/07/2021 16:36

I’ve listened to the section again and it’s worse the second time of listening.
