My favourite gym shop. They've jumped on the bandwagon too and it will make me rethink shopping there.

here

and here

The used to refuse to allow men to teach or attend their in store classes. Now they don't think women's sports are solely for women.

More like Sweaty Barry now

Hey sweaty Betty. Thank fuck for girly things 👏👏👏👏💅💅

From their website below

littlbrowndog · 08/07/2021 23:11

On embracing her femininity

Ever since I could express myself, I’ve gravitated towards “girly” things and felt like I was a girl. It was when I was about 8 years old and after my parents did lots and lots of research, they finally let me change my name, pronouns and continue to live my life as a girl.

Yes I don't get that either.

Why is it the best a trans woman can do to explain why they transitioned is liking girly things.

What are girly things? Stereotypes are the best they can do because they don't know what it means to be a woman and never will.

I don't really blame a shop for trying to flog their women's clothing to trans women.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 08/07/2021 23:47

The thing is - if they wanted to celebrate Pride, they could so easily have featured a lesbian or two. Job done. Brownie points gained. No reason for any customer to be annoyed.

But that’s not cool. So they have to feature a trans women, busy ousting other women from sport. And they cannot even see that this might annoy their core customers - women who like sport. So woke they cannot think.

OneEpisode · 08/07/2021 23:54

The first link is ok though? A male in what looks like a comfy sweatshirt?

Saltyslug · 09/07/2021 00:02

That’s my pet hate, liking stereotypically ‘girly things’ and the assumption this makes someone a girl

Wildgarlicpesto · 09/07/2021 00:07

Girly things! What a loathsome thing to say.

I won't be buying their "girly" things from that patronising company. They can keep them.

TabbyStar · 09/07/2021 05:58

I went off them when they posted this https://babe.net/2017/05/23/hey-gals-activewear-brand-thinks-rape-culture-fun-cute-motivation-exercise-259 - they didn't think much about their lesbian customers then. Also being sent a postcard suggesting I might need bum sculpting leggings to go out running. Shame, though I have still bought some of their stuff from eBay instead of directly. I don't manage to be very girly in it though.

Bloody hell I didn't see that. I'm not on twitter though.

I climb and lift weights in my sweaty betty kit. Girly enough for them I wonder?

My thoughts too. A gender non-conforming man in a sweatshirt, surely?

I’m also on the fence with the transwoman. As much as I hate children being medically transed I can’t see any problem with someone who has never experienced male puberty competing with women, and it looks like that is the case here?

However I am very fed up of the usual bollocks about liking girly things, omission of anything to do with sexuality for Pride, etc. So perhaps not so on the fence!

Redapplewreath · 09/07/2021 08:14

Let's celebrate disempowering, oppressive sexist stereotypes for female people and those who identify as them!

No, let's not.

I always thought their average customer was the middle aged woman. Perhaps I'm wrong. Seems like an odd move if so.

BlowDryRat · 09/07/2021 08:54

I'm disappointed that a supposedly empowering brand thinks that all it takes to be a woman is liking 'girly' things. Stereotyping much.

Niconacotaco · 09/07/2021 09:02

I keep seeing posts from them about exercise dresses which I thought was strange. Do many people want to exercise in dresses?

DoylyCarte · 09/07/2021 09:02

Whenever I hear or see the name I’ve been reminded of “sweaty Betty [swallocks]” aka slang for sweaty bollocks; always thought it was a strange name!

Saidtoomuch · 09/07/2021 09:04

I'll support any company who stands beside the LGBT etc community, especially the "L". A guy wearing a unisex jumper isn't an issue for me, my DD prefers mens sweaters so it's a non issue. The second it becomes gender appropriation for me it becomes an issue. Championing a trans woman doing sport is fine, championing a trans woman in competitive womens sport is most definitely not.

Reminds me of the Macc Lads song!

That’s exactly how I feel. You explained it far better than I did!

Mr Google says..
33.75 million (2019) Women in Britain.

The government estimates 200, 000 - 500, 000 trans people. Not just trans women.

CliftonGreenYork · 10/07/2021 06:11

They also pay their staff and managers very badly.
