Green Party Women coup

GreenPartyWoman · 27/06/2021 16:27

The Green Party Women's party was co-chaired by a transwoman Kathryn Bristow (fae/fae) and a woman Emma Bateman. Emma has been suspended for alleged transphobia.

Kathryn has now taken over, calling themselves the Chair and removing the rights of women to organise and discuss women's matters on the Green Party forum. Kathryn has gone so far as to delete all previous posts.

Their statement:
"Over the last week I have tried to find a way to moderate this space in compliance with the Equality Act. Unfortunately I can't see a way of doing this that the 100 or so users of this space would be happy with and that wouldn't take a lot of my or someone else's time. While we have to look after the interests of 10,000’s Green Party members.
So sadly I have had to lock the ability of uses to post and comment on this space. I've also deleted all recent posts on the space by users, to ensure that we are complaint with the law in a way that makes no judgement on any one post.
I have to bring it up with the rest of the committee but my feeling is that is space will become a one way commutation tool from the committee to the membership.
More updates will be made soon.

Kathryn Bristow, Chair of Green Party Women"

I don't even know where to go with this, except that this seems to be almost like a totalitarian coup.

Bristow has misrepresented the Equality Act and is acting like a baby dictator.

I used to think I would have voted for the Green Party given a chance, but wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now.

How utterly embarrassing for the party that they are condoning this behaviour.

xxyzz · 28/06/2021 07:49

This is a proper authoritarian coup.

I bet most Green Party members and voters have no idea the party has gone mad.

"Women may not be permitted to speak on matters concerning women."

"Women must be neither seen nor heard."

It makes 19th century women's rights look quite advanced. At least the Suffragettes were allowed to speak.

Freespeecher · 28/06/2021 07:53

'space will become a one way commutation tool from the committee to the membership'.

I'm not familiar with KB but yikes.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/06/2021 08:08

Presumably this arrogant eejit doesn't mean "commutation"...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/06/2021 08:13

Commutation?

Do the Fae have alternative meaning for every word in every dictionary?

Or is electrocution a GP approved punishment for women members?

SmokedDuck · 28/06/2021 08:24

@highame

The Green's made gains at the last election, so it will be difficult to get them to make changes. The only hope is that, as this hasn't been given approval, maybe it will stumble down the line. The Green's like the idea of no-debate don't they? so maybe not much hope.
Voters often have no idea that this sort of thing is going on behind the scenes - I think there needs to be a way to let them know.
Nonmaquillee · 28/06/2021 08:26

@MrsOvertonsWindow

Isn't that what #nodebate means? Women will remain silent and may not challenge the rights of men to determine what woman are, what the law is, what privacy and safeguarding boundaries will be breached, what drugs will be offered to children off label (often promoted by members of political parties) and so many other aspects of women's lives?

The trouble is, us pesky women will not be silenced. Angry

Yep

And Kathryn - “they” need to learn how to spell

WarriorN · 28/06/2021 08:46

I bet most Green Party members and voters have no idea the party has gone mad.

No I don't think they do.

However more are learning. There are people who've had long involvement/ membership with the greens who are learning about this and aren't impressed. And know lawyers.

This idiotic tantrum thrown by KB is only serving to highlight the issue further.

Own goal 👏

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2021 08:48

This is a flagrant example of direct sex discrimination in light of the Reindorf report and Maya’s judgement and very unwise. I hope the Green Party has deep pockets. I would be happy to support an appeal to challenge this through the courts.

I can’t say what I think about “Kathryn” on MN without getting a strike, but let’s just say you’re not fooling anyone about who you really are and your agenda is clear as day.

Quite.

mollythemeerkat · 28/06/2021 10:03

Will be interesting to see if the silencing of women can be challenged effectively through the law in this instance. I believe GP structures may make it very hard for women to fight it from within, and as someone has said, they have recently made some election gains which makes it harder.

Is Bristow still employed by Gender GP?
I think that is surely opening faeself up to accusations of huge conflict of interests. I dont know a huge amount about Bristow but that fae transitioned from male to fae only late last year.

Trying to not get a strike for misgendering gets harder and harder doesn't it?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/06/2021 14:01

@LegoCaltrops

Interesting how on the one hand, TWAW, absolutely and with No Debate. But on the other hand natal women aren't permitted to discuss matters pertaining to being female unless a trans woman or approved male is present.

It can't be both.

Don't be silly. It MUST be both!
highame · 28/06/2021 14:06

Faeself should Faek off

It has to be said

RoxytheRexy · 28/06/2021 17:57

The Green Party is completely TWAW. From the top down to the bottom up. Amelia Womack posted on SM about how she supports Trans rights on the day of the Maya judgement. Even if you believed that then the inability to read the room doesn’t reflect well on you

I admire the women trying to change it from the inside. I’m a member of the Labour Party and I’m resolutely staying despite how dreadful they are at the minute so I do understand. Though I think about leaving often

MrsBunHat · 28/06/2021 18:14

Unfortunately I can't see a way of doing this that the 100 or so users of this space would be happy with and that wouldn't take a lot of my or someone else's time.

Why on earth can’t KB make sure everything complies with the Equality Act even if that does take time? (Like maybe the time it would take to read and understand it Hmm) - that is KB’s job! Is an Orwellian coup necessary because it’s quicker?

What an embarrassment KB is. I agree this is probably positive in the long run - the boat has been missed for using genderism to control everyone around you and the person is making themselves look like more of a liability every day.

Solidarity to Emma and the actual coherent-thought-having women of the greens.

AntiSocialDistancer · 28/06/2021 19:22

What makes me laugh is I keep reading TRA conplaining that the Green Party gives TERFS a platform. There is no moderate accommodations that will appease that side.

@AntiSocialDistancer

It saddens me greatly. There is no platform upon which we can speak anymore. Free speech? Women's rights? Women's freedom to self-organise without males present? Not allowed.
I hope journalists such as Janice Turner, Suzanne Moore and Julie Bindel can write about this. If anyone has any way of contacting them please please do. I despair of Twatter but for those who do use it please share this. It really is a story that needs to be heard

TheWeeDonkey · 28/06/2021 20:02

I've never heard of this person but how can someone be polyamourous, pansexual and asexual? More importantly what does that have to do with their politics and why does this person think anyone else cares who they like or don't like to shag?

But looking at their account it just seems to be about their sex life anyway which I'm sure is hugely important to Green Party voters.

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 29/06/2021 01:42

Riiiiiiight. So the transphobes setting up their own little space isn't equally totalitarian?

What space is that? In the greens you mean?
NiceGerbil · 29/06/2021 03:03

Anyway.

It was the greens who fucked up with Aimee challenor and dad wasn't it?

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/aimee-challenor-father-rape-election-agent-green-party-investigation-a8725701.html

'The inquiry, by Verita, said Ms Challenor, a transgender activist who was in the running to become the Greens’ deputy leader, committed a “serious error of judgment”.'

'They said members they spoke to had little awareness of safeguarding issues and those who were told about the charges “saw the issue as primarily a communications one – about protecting the reputation of the party”.'

What are you on about? Females don’t want a secret private female only underground group in a cupboard. They want to be free to talk about their experiences, opinions and requirements as equals, out in the open, as is their right in a democracy.

‘No debate’ didn’t come from the feminist side. And it doesn’t work well in the courtrooms does it?

WarriorN · 29/06/2021 06:59

But looking at their account it just seems to be about their sex life anyway which I'm sure is hugely important to Green Party voters.

I also seem to remember sparkly nails and how oestrogen makes fae totes emotes.

And "we defeated women's sex based rights" or something similar.

Said no serious female politician ever.
