Also, can anyone archive the Telegraph one please?

Can't read the full article but I don't know of any 19yr olds who watch CBBC.

Clymene · 27/06/2021 07:17

The Telegraph article has already been archived

There is no suggestion he was watching CBBC at the age of 19. As you said, you haven't read the article.
JustcameoutGC · 27/06/2021 07:23

Sweet jesus. Are people so brainwashed that they can't see when they are massively overstepping boundaries that are there for very good reason? . I wonder if there has ever been another internal BBC network or club that has demanded editorial input into programming.

CBBC is targeted at 6-15 year olds. It’s just one example of the media that our children, including the child be is the article are influenced by.

It would be preferable to reading articles before commenting in future.

I saw yesterday in the times culture section that the bbc are airing a documentary this week about an 8 year old who 'was assigned male at birth' but has said he wanted to be a girl ever since he could talk.

It was a very gushing review. I find the level of propaganda from a taxpayer funded media company which is supposed to be impartial very disturbing

Leafstamp · 27/06/2021 07:36

Very disturbing indeed.

Here’s another. (We need an acronym for ‘sorry it’s a DM link, but they seem to be giving these issues exposure”)

Organisations like Transgender Trend specially advise that children ‘coming out as trans’ should not be marked out as brave or special.

I’d urge all parents and teachers to have a good look around their advice: www.transgendertrend.com/schools-resources/

I don’t think we need to apologise at all! Forced teaming, being on the right side of history, purity spirals etc are part of why we’re in this mess after all.

The observer also has an excellent piece this week:

amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jun/27/the-observer-view-on-the-right-to-free-expression

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2021 08:00

Holy fucking wow. Did I just read all that in the Observer? Editorial?

Shock

Going to have coffee and see if I dreamed it.

WotgunShedding · 27/06/2021 08:01

The Observer has always been more women-friendly I think arabella, it’s the guardian that are more staunchly TWAW-and-anything-else-is-heresy

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2021 08:04

Yes, but that is as clear as a diamond. I mean, that is not pussyfooting about.

Leafstamp · 27/06/2021 08:22

It’s bloody good stuff isn’t it?! Smile

And it's the editorial. Not an opinion piece.

Clear line drawn in sand as to where it stands.

WarriorN · 27/06/2021 08:24

Which will confuse those who don't know the observer and guardian are separate entities and are die hard app reading guardian lovers. I only twigged a couple of years ago

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2021 08:24

I had coffee and it's still there.

Blimey.

WarriorN · 27/06/2021 08:26

Which, thinking about it, is why it's so important the observer does speak out about this.

On the app, which younger people increasingly use it all pops up as one.

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2021 08:27

I want to c and p the whole thing but this ...

For centuries, patriarchal societies have tried to limit the free expression of women. For centuries, women have fought back against attempts to curb their fundamental human rights. It should not need stating that gender-critical feminists have the same free-speech rights as all other citizens. In a democracy, there is no debate to be had about women’s freedom of speech.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 27/06/2021 08:29

Well done The Observer. And chapeau to the brave women who have forced daylight in. I think Keira and Maya are particular heroines.

MidsomerMurmurs · 27/06/2021 08:35

Well, Sonia Sodha is a leader writer for the Observer, so I'm not so surprised at that editorial. I do wish that it could have been even clearer though ("those born female" = girls and women, so why not actually say so, consistently).

I also think it does well to detail some of the "clear and significant attempts to interfere with women’s freedom", but a casual reader would get a bit of a "very good people on both sides" vibe from it, and the evidence is so overwhelmingly there that the abuse and the threats of violence come from one side, not the other. (Actual transphobic violence clearly exists, but its perpetuators are never gender critical feminists, they are homophobic men, with transphobia as an extension of that longstanding phobia).

Every bit of sunlight helps though.

LizzieSiddal · 27/06/2021 08:37

Justine Webb has responded to the strath about the BBC. He’s not taking any shit.

19yr olds often watch cbbc with younger siblings, when they are babysitting others or with their own children.
WarriorN · 27/06/2021 08:50

I took it to mean that he's watched cbbc when younger and it influenced his ideas along with stuff taught at school via stonewall etc.

He appeared to be gay but suffered from homophobic bullying and the concept of trans made him less accessible to bullying.

FemaleAndLearning · 27/06/2021 08:50

Good to see all these articles. I think introducing the general public to the issues must be difficult.
