Seriously? I am just sick of this. Kettled into the corner by mumsnet, conferences threatened, representatives of the Fawcett society screaming victim and attacking women because she fails to do the one job that she is in that position to do.

Sorry if this is a daft question, but if you buy a solidarity ticket can you be sure it won't be snapped up by a poor-faith disruptor who didn't want to shell out to cause trouble? Do Filia have any way of checking?

AlistairSim · 17/06/2021 11:04

I also can't make it but have bought a Solidarity ticket. Hope whoever uses it has a fabulous time!

bellinisurge · 17/06/2021 11:08

@WinterTrees , I guess that's a risk but, fuck 'em. Venues have bouncers.

PaleGreenGhost · 17/06/2021 11:32

And here's a really great example (thanks lads) of how women actually want to be left alone to talk about women's issues but get disrupted apparently in the name of trans rights. The disruptors as ever are often not actually trans themselves.

Do you know who "antifa" and those like them who protested the Labour women's meeting near Grenfell with smoke bombs and costume dicks remind me of? The Bullingdon Club, but for lefty boys. Destructive, abusive, privileged, entitled, misogynists.

purpleboy · 17/06/2021 12:20

@WinterTrees

The tickets are distributed mainly though local grassroots organisations to Women that they work with who otherwise would not be able to attend

I just asked and received this reply from FiLiA

ShowOfHands · 17/06/2021 12:31

I would like to take teenaged dd along. She's 14, a fierce feminist and mature. Would you recommend it if you've been?

FiLia distribute the solidarity tickets themselves, so I guess they will avoid giving any to disruptors in so far as they can identify them. FiLia are well established and linked to womens groups locally in Portsmouth (where October 21 conference is), UK wide and internationally and will be able to distrubute solidarity tickets via these established networks.

Link to solidarity tickets here if you want to buy one.

Here is general tickets page - they have different prices depending on financial situation as they always aim to be available to as many women as possible:

Hope to see lots of you in October! Its such a fab conference and this year will be my 5th. Ignore the gender ideologues drama and please don't let that put you off coming - its an amazing conference, a safe space and a really memorable and uplifting event to participate in. The Saturday evening parties are legendary so be sure to get a ticket for that!!!

I would say yes! Some of the topics are quite brutal - they are talking about effects of the patriarchy on women afterall, but there are so many different sessions and so much going on that your daughter is sure to find lots of interest. They have had special sessions for younger feminists in past years. I don't think the sessions have been released yet but here are details of topics covered. filia.org.uk/topics

I would have loved to have attended a conference like FiLia as a teen.

viques · 17/06/2021 12:41

Gatekeepers of Womanhood

Now wouldnt that make a great title for MNs Feminism board?

YellowFish12 · 17/06/2021 12:45

I have purchased a weekend solidarity ticket. Thanks for highlighting.

WinterTrees · 17/06/2021 12:57

Oh, that's great to know about the solidarity ticket distribution. I'll buy one now - thanks for the info.

Cwenthryth · 17/06/2021 13:02

Well.

Hampshire police have recorded this as a hate incident.

Wasn’t expecting that when I reported this morning but there you go!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/06/2021 13:11

What was the ‘hate’ - the stabby strangler or everyone pondering the sex of the attacker?

Only if you're willing for her to campaign for a huge book allowance from the embarrassment of riches that is typically on offer.

Are you on the wrong thread?
toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/06/2021 13:20

Yesssssss. That’s me on the wrong ‘Fred... d’uh!

Cwenthryth · 17/06/2021 13:24

Ha! Ok cos otherwise I was well confused!!!

Although, if hate incidents/crimes were recorded on grounds of sex, I believe the case I think you are referring to would be a misogynistic one for sure.

Has a hate incident been recorded before on grounds of gender critical beliefs?

I’d thoroughly recommend it. My Dd was 15 the first time she went and was very emotional about the experience. It touched her deeply.

@ShowOfHands

ShowOfHands · 17/06/2021 17:21

I really think she'd get a lot out of it. Thank you.

I worry very slightly about the possibility of hijacking and what that could mean. I was at a meeting a couple of years ago with some low level disruption from the usual quarters and it was surprisingly unsettling.

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 17/06/2021 17:42

I think the International Network of Powerful Lesbians run security @ FiLiA conferences (or at least some of them) and they do a wonderful job.

Cwenthryth · 17/06/2021 18:08

FiLiA have said on Twitter they have security and are already speaking with police and council etc. So hopefully should be as safe as possible. I would expect some protestors though.

ShowOfHands · 17/06/2021 18:52

There is an International Network of Powerful Lesbians?! 14yo dd will be there with bells on if so.
