Abertay University student Lisa Keogh cleared after being investigated for saying women have vaginas

“While I may no longer be a student at the University, it is still vital to me that others have the opportunity to take part in lively open debates without worrying about being punished afterwards.

“If Abertay just carries on as before, this journey will have been for no good reason.”

She went on: “Although Abertay denies this, it was my gender critical views that led to me being investigated by the University and this should never have happened.

"I know the University has a duty to investigate all complaints, but to draw this process out for two months while I was taking my final exams was needlessly cruel.

“The University should put a process in place that will enable it to judge what complaints need to be investigated and which ones can be dismissed immediately because they’re vexatious and politically motivated."

This has caused an enormous chilling effect.

Yeah she said how stressful it was on her

Good luck Lisa in your new career.

You are an inspiration to all women who go into education later in life

Shedbuilder · 09/06/2021 12:21

I'm glad she's been cleared. I think if this had happened last year things might have looked different and I celebrate the fact that things have shifted.

Every word she says is spot on. I can't imagine trying to take finals under that pressure. Let's hope her case has brought about a change in attitude in her institution and wider. I wish her the best of luck for her future.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/06/2021 12:24

So pleased for her.
Sadly we need cases like hers to be repeatedly thrown out to get those who see all things women related as cancellable to understand that it's not going to happen.

Mollyollydolly · 09/06/2021 12:25

I'm very pleased for her. I'm also very angry at the stress she's been put under for weeks for no reason at all.

malloo · 09/06/2021 12:27

Excellent news. Lots of sunlight from this story which is good but I'm angry she had to suffer the stress of being investigated. Scotland really needs these strong, articulate women who are not afraid to speak the truth.

PearPickingPorky · 09/06/2021 12:28

Good for her. I hope she has an excellent career in law, she certainly seems to have the brains and tenacity for it.

Cailin66 · 09/06/2021 12:29

So glad for her. What a horrendous ordeal for stating biological facts. And will those who caused this needless stress be punished or have to apologise ....

PerditaCambellBlack · 09/06/2021 12:29

Such bullshit that it was even investigated. Good luck Lisa.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/06/2021 12:43

“Although Abertay has decided I’m innocent of all charges, the ordeal I have been through has been a punishment in itself.”

An important point. All these cases being brought against women, they are punished by being investigated - it doesn't really matter if they are found guilty or not.

Women aren't going to speak out even if they know they are within the rules / law because of this sort of thing.

Igmum · 09/06/2021 12:47

Excellent news. So pleased but how appalling that she was put through this

Exactly. The reason these vexatious reports are made (whether it's to the police, universities or employers) is because the investigation process itself is so awful for women to go through. The threat of that makes women not say anything, just in case. Which is exactly the reason these anti-women extremists do it.
AfternoonToffee · 09/06/2021 13:14

Fantastic news, but it should never have reached the stage it did.

HermioneWeasley · 09/06/2021 13:19

Good news. Brave and principled woman

Floisme · 09/06/2021 13:19

I'm very pleased for Lisa and hope she goes from strength to strength in her career. If I ever need a lawyer, I will want someone with this kind of strength and tenacity.

Like other posters, I'm outraged she was ever in this situation. I think I had better keep to myself my thoughts on the university and on whoever made the complaint.

Shedbuilder · 09/06/2021 13:22

Let's hope that female students thinking of attending Abertay University decide to look elsewhere.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 09/06/2021 14:27

The University should put a process in place that will enable it to judge what complaints need to be investigated and which ones can be dismissed immediately because they’re vexatious and politically motivated

Not just at universities, but also workplaces, school, the police etc etc.

And government. In fact can we just have this everywhere please? What happened to Lisa was shocking. When a system that relies on people using it in good faith is used in this way then the system has to move to screen out such users.

FindTheTruth · 09/06/2021 15:20

💐💐💐Lisa Keogh ❤️I'm glad we've got women like you starting out in law. Good luck.

AnyOldPrion · 09/06/2021 15:31

The university has stressed the allegations were not in relation to Ms Keogh's personal opinions, but to alleged behaviour in class, including in some online breakout rooms.

Presumably the alleged behaviour involved expressing views that other students didn’t like. How mealy mouthed are the university?

littlbrowndog · 09/06/2021 16:09

It’s official. Us women in Scotland have vaginas 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

LizzieSiddal · 09/06/2021 17:12

I’m so pleased this nonesense has come to an end for Lisa and it should never have got this far. I hope the university are looking at their policies so this never happens again.

As LT said “Women do have Vaginas Nick.” and someone saying that shouldn’t be “investigated” by any institution.

ScreamingMeMe · 09/06/2021 17:19

Absolutely. So while the end result is "thank fuck for that", it's at a cost. It needs to not get to that point in the first place.
AlfonsoTheMango · 09/06/2021 17:25

Hooray for common sense! I'm sorry that she had to go through this, though.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/06/2021 21:39

I hope the whinging little cry-babies get a kick up the bum over this. The universities have helped to create this environment by bowing to the every demand of their immature students.

MountainWitch · 09/06/2021 21:50

Scotland needs women like Lisa in law. Great strength of character and tenacity, I'm so pleased for her.
