The Ministry of Justice has left Stonewall

Reported by The Sunday Telegraph (behind a paywall) as an exclusive, but I suspect other news outlets will pick it up soon.

Exclusive: Stonewall 'exodus' begins as Ministry of Justice officials say it has ‘lost its way’

Sources at the Ministry of Justice suggested that the decision to withdraw from the scheme was also based on concerns about Stonewall’s “dubious” training and approach to free speech. Antonia Romeo, the permanent secretary, is now reviewing the department’s diversity policy on behalf of Mr Buckland.

An MoJ source said: “It’s a shame, as this was once an organisation that did incredibly important work, but it has totally lost its way and the ministers just don’t think it’s justifiable to give Stonewall taxpayers’ money.

This is great news however someone somewhere high up needs to do a review into how Stonewall managed to infiltrate all the organisations and have so much influence. This needs to not happen again, we need checks in place.

Yes, questions must be asked as to why this was allowed to happen, why the Government felt funding a political lobby group with tax payer cash was appropriate. We need to hear the justification for this.

Barracker said that the EHRC's "value for money" excuse gave everyone who wanted out, but couldn't take the online heat from the anti-women extremists the perfect excuse. And many used it, which was great.

But it's wonderful that we are now moving to a point where organisations can just come right out and say it's because of Stonewall's unlawful, discriminatory, extremist position.

It's great that they are actually coming out and stating the problem rather than hiding behind "financial reasons" as some orgs pulling out have done.

Yes, was coming to say this! I can't read the full article, but I've seen snippets being posted on Twitter, and it looks like they're not holding back here, which is great to see.

So does that mean they'll stop putting men in women's prisons then?

PearPickingPorky · 06/06/2021 10:56

Hopefully we can now go back to having policies which guard against locking vulnerable female victims of male abuse, who have committed non-violent poverty crimes, up with male rapists.

And stop police forces recording rapists and other male perpetrators as women if they say they are one, and forcing female prisoners officers to partake in males' sexual fetishes and displays of sexual dominance during body searches.

Incredible that we ever ended up here. But here we are. Glad some sense is starting to seep back in. Wonder when MNHQ will catch up, as they seem to be going in the opposite direction.

I am absolutely over the moon. This means all those big lawyer companies will have to re-think their alleigance (in the UK at least) to SW.

I am sad to see this demise, but I count women's rights as my priority and the growing hatred against women, fuelled by TRA's has made me unconcerned right now about anyone else's rights. Stealth and closing down debate was never going to be a good look (also legal giggery pokery - love that)

btw I wonder if the Fox killers case against LGB Alliance is going to go forward?

highame · 06/06/2021 11:24

Allison Bailey's case must look even stronger

dyslek · 06/06/2021 11:27

yes, I struggle to see how they think they can win. I wonder if they will go ahead?
Also the prosecusion in Scotland?

highame · 06/06/2021 11:31

Different Justice system dyslek but might cause a bit of a stir north of the border

highame · 06/06/2021 11:32

The Equal Bench book is probably going to get a bit of a re-write Grin

MrsOvertonsWindow · 06/06/2021 11:33

Great news. But there are a number of other trans lobby groups well embedded in the MoJ and currently influencing where male born paedophiles and sex offenders are housed.
They need to be removed OR balanced with some groups representing the interests of vulnerable and abused women currently being imprisoned alongside these criminals who are a real threat to women and children.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/06/2021 11:37

As part of the inquiry that needs to be held the impact on women of SW's involvement needs to be investigated and apologies and reparations made to individual women and groups.

highame · 06/06/2021 11:41

Yes, there's one in the Police but I think two of those who run the show are now being investigated - can't give more details, have forgotten where I read it, might have been FairCop who I think have been feeding into some of the Nationals (Times are doing some investigating and I think it was there).

I agree about the Lobby stuff overton but am feeling a lot more optimistic today

I think a large part of the 'wobble' was MNHQ feeling that it was getting difficult to attract big-hitter politicians on for webchats.

Hopefully this 'exodus from Stonewall' validates and strengthens MN's position as a relevant and significant web host.

I'd like to see webchats now with Rosie Duffield and Liz Truss. They'd get good questions and a decent, fair hearing.

God, this, so much.
Tibtom · 06/06/2021 12:04

Not an 'equal treatment' bench book at all

What’s wrong with having to call your rapist she and have a judge criticise you for using the wrong pronouns for your assailant? And of course cis is a neutral term...

How the hell someone senior did not see that this opens up the whole judicial system to potential accusations of bias against women is beyond me. One for the public enquiry that we all want.

But but but, the counsel for the defendant in Maya Forstater's case said that the Bench Book "can't be wrong"!
SpindleWhorl · 06/06/2021 12:40

The bench book is like a stick of rock with 'stonewall' running through it.

PurplePlain · 06/06/2021 12:44

Interesting that the reasons are becoming more honest. I wonder if some of the 'for budgetary reasons' leavers will choose to give more information as time goes on?

Good news that companies are listening.

Hell yeah, that should focus minds.
