Organisations Leaving Stonewall: The List

Barracker · 29/05/2021 19:50

Thought it would be handy to keep a running list here of organisations who have done 'budget reviews' or similar and have subsequently decided that Stonewall are 'not value for money'.

EHRC
ACAS
House of Commons
DVLA
Dorset Police
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Do feel free to update the thread as more join the exodus.

Yes I thought that the whole point of anti discrimination and equalities was to bring up those groups who are pushed down. Like women or those with disabilities.

Whilst I think that a man who wants to dress or be known as a woman is fine - there is something particularly galling about relatively affluent white males (the majority of those pushing the trans gender) saying their ‘wants’ are higher / priority than those experiencing inequalities.

YellowFish12 · 30/05/2021 14:00

Surprised to see so many law firms on that list. Also saddened to see my recently experience-employer on the list.

I shall get writing.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 30/05/2021 14:02

Agree with all of this - and it's notable that a record number of people with disabilities are losing their jobs/having their employment taken from them.

Yes, meanwhile Stonewall are concerned about whether the likes of Pip Bunce are called she on the days when they have woman feels.

CardinalLolzy · 30/05/2021 14:32

@Helen8220

This feels like a fairly minor semantic issue. Given that a court recently held that a non-binary person was protected from discrimination on grounds of gender reassignment, surely anyone whose gender identity is different from their sex at birth must share this protected characteristic, so the policy statement doesn’t sound that misleading to me.

This is from another thread but wasn't answered, so I'd be interested in your interpretation - if your gender identity is 'woman' and your sex is 'female' is your gender identity 'the same as' or 'different from' your sex? (Assuming here that 'sex' refers to biological sex and is fixed).

CardinalLolzy · 30/05/2021 14:33
Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucester CCG (NHS) did not renew membership to Stonewall in 2020.

See point 6 here: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/725083/response/1738243/attach/html/5/FOI%202021218%20Final%20Response.pdf.html
Just to note if anyone's trying to read this html version, it's got mangled - you can access the pdf itself to read properly!

ScreamingMeMe · 30/05/2021 14:55

The Trans/NB kids you come across on TikTok and Instagram don’t give a f/ck. There’s thousands of them and I’d be astonished if even one of them had heard of Stonewall.

Superstraight was started by a TikTok kid shrug.

Just seen on twitter. Times article Liz Truss advising official withdrawal from Stonewall diversity scheme.

Blimey

Mollyollydolly · 31/05/2021 01:01

I know, she's not messing about, I think Crispin Blunt pissed her off!

Datun · 31/05/2021 01:05

The anti-Semitism comment couldn't have helped.

MrsMidClegs · 31/05/2021 01:08

Liz Truss is incredible. Swoon.

What happened there?
Mollyollydolly · 31/05/2021 01:11

He couldn't stand that she said 'no' to self id when he thought it was in the bag.. He basically called on her to resign because she saw through his underhand shenanigans.

Lovetomato · 31/05/2021 01:13

Wow. That’s quite the advice. 250 government departments and public bodies is a huge revenue stream if they’re all paying up to £2500 for the process. That’s a lot of taxpayer’s money for inaccurate legal advice (whether deliberate or not). I imagine this will be spun as an anti-LGBT move but there’s plenty of info out there to hit back against that slur. Interesting.

Seems like Stonewall going on the attack because they couldn't stand Truss backfired! They got too used trying to burn people for their beliefs. The arrogance.
highame · 31/05/2021 06:45

This is so very fantastic. Very soon, any Stonewall champion will be seen as anti women and anti gay, so much for making organisations the 'best employers'. Get away from your base and your base will get away from you Grin

Leafstamp · 31/05/2021 07:06

’Liz Truss, the equalities minister, is pushing for all government departments to withdraw from Stonewall’s employment scheme following a row over transgender rights.’

Brilliant news SmileStar

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 31/05/2021 08:08

Honestly I think it's sheer laziness. Let's outsource that boring side of fulfilling our duties and get a gold star while we're at it. Little realising how much it will cost over time as fulfilling the demands of the champions scheme becomes more and more onerous, and the true cost begins to reveal itself in the mountain of paperwork generated. I have no doubt many organisations will breathe a huge sigh of relief as they quietly absent themselves from the roll call

Agree but it's still astonishing that no one in these huge organisations foresaw the risks of implementing Stonewall's policies. Nothing in the Essex Uni report is surprising or requires technical legal knowledge. Any employer should know that you have to balance the rights of different groups of employees carefully. You can't just set aside one group (women) in favour of another.

FannyCann · 31/05/2021 08:38

Just reposting the archived list of diversity champions for reference.

FannyCann · 31/05/2021 08:46

Here is a link to the Sex Matters template letter to use to send to five organisations on the list to suggest they leave the champions list. Can now be updated to reflect new government advice!
Today I am writing to the university DD2 will be starting at in autumn and the one DD1 left last year which filled her head with nonsense about intersectional feminism meaning she has to be kind and include men in her feminism.

Will also write to MacMillan and Marie Curie, both organisations I am saddened to see on the list and which can do without wasting charitable funds in this way.

Wondering how long we should leave it before sending more FOI's to ask if they have left yet? 🤔

Barracker · 31/05/2021 08:56

What excellent news. I would be delighted to hear the 250 government departments have severed ties with Stonewall. Imagine paying over half a million quid (probably more) of taxpayers' money in order to get illegal advice that leads to you removing the rights of most of those taxpayers.

Now that will be a good day to update this thread...

Anyone know if membership runs from a specific month or is organisation specific?

I guess the info may be on some FOI requests? And so if the expiry date has elapsed since the last FOI then it’s time for another?!
