Organisations Leaving Stonewall: The List

Barracker · 29/05/2021 19:50

Thought it would be handy to keep a running list here of organisations who have done 'budget reviews' or similar and have subsequently decided that Stonewall are 'not value for money'.

EHRC
ACAS
House of Commons
DVLA
Dorset Police
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Do feel free to update the thread as more join the exodus.

Last night the Duke of Edinburgh Award's Twitter account tweeted that children should get 'help and advice' from groups including Stonewall, Mermaids, Gendered Intelligence and the Proud Trust. There was a lot of criticism and concern about safeguarding in the comments beneath, and they have now deleted the original tweet, so maybe they're having a rethink.

Tesla73 · 16/06/2021 15:53

Couldnt see if they were on the list but thought i'd share the reply to the email i sent to Cancer Research last week:

Thank you for your email.
Whilst CRUK have been members of the Stonewall Diversity Champions in the past, we are not currently members. Our last membership ran out in March 2020, and the decision not to renew membership was taken at a time when the charity was responding to the financial pressures of the pandemic and needed to limit spending.
As a charity, we have recently published our first organisational-wide EDI Strategy with a vision to create a charity where everyone feels like they belong, benefits from and participates in, the work we do. This includes our trans and non-binary colleagues, volunteers and supporters.
I hope this has provided you with the relevant information.
We do not have any links to Gendered Intelligence or Mermaids.

“KeepingTheWormsQuiet
Barclays Bank is still proud of being a Stonewall Top 100 Employer

www.barclays.co.uk/diversity/
Trainedbycats Those of us old enough to remember Apartheid are not surprised by this“

Odd reversal, really. In those days, our Students Union banned Barclays from the SU shop: they had a notice up, saying they would not accept Barclays cheques.
I expect Barclays remembers how unpopular they were back then.

With SW having some 800 members of their schemes, do we need to be realistic. Are they leaving in droves and that explains why SW have hidden their list, or was their list hiding to protect members?

I started a thread asking whether anyone had heard anything about Whitehall? They said they would make a statement at the end of last week but haven't done that.

Are we being led down the garden path. Everyone giving the impression that GC is making a difference now, when clearly, so many organisations are carrying on as though nothing is going to make any difference. Just because an organisation removes something from their website doesn't mean a cancellation, it means more secrecy. Liz Truss could have clarified single sex spaces but has left the obfuscation in, hoping the law will sort it out. Given that cases on single sex space are in very short supply, where does that leave us - Limbo for the next 50 years is my guess. Angry

Or was their list hiding to hide the fact that many on the list has left months / years earlier, but they kept the names on to keep the list bigger?

I went on Action For Children website to see if they are still with Stonewall - plan to email them to ask - but found their gender identity guide to be very disturbing

media.actionforchildren.org.uk/documents/Action_for_Children_Gender_Identity_Guide_1.pdf

Stonewall are all through it and for Other Resources it lists Mermaids and the ITV sham Butterfly

Reply to my email from Marie Curie - very disappointing in light of all this that they not only remain with Stonewall but seem proud of it:

*Thank you for your support for Marie Curie. We are grateful for your donations and the difference it has made to the people we care for.

As a provider of care to people at the end of their lives, and those affected by the death of a loved one, we take many steps to ensure our care and support is open to everyone who needs it, and that we understand what is meaningful to people as they approach the end, so we can tailor our care to their needs.

In terms of Marie Curie’s relationship with Stonewall, we are a member of their Diversity Champions programme. By doing so, we have access to great training materials and expert knowledge to ensure that Marie Curie is an inclusive employer for LGBT staff, and is welcoming of LGBT people at the end of their life.

Our membership of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme is just one of these steps, which helps ensure that all LGBTQ+ beneficiaries feel accepted and supported. At this time we have no plans to end our membership of the scheme.

If you have decided to withdraw your donations then we respect your decision and thank you again for your all you have done in the past to support those affected by dying, death and bereavement.*.

Mermoose · 17/06/2021 16:24

to support those affected by dying, death and bereavement.

  • but isn't that just the problem? That people who are in that situation need to be able, clearly, to request and have intimate care carried out by someone of their own sex, should they wish it. The problem isn't that Stonewall wants LGBT people treated properly, it's that they don't create conditions that support everyone being treated properly. (including, if it conflicts with their commitment to gender identity ideology, LGBT people themselves).

Save the Children are not with Stonewall anymore according to their reply to my email:

*Thank you for getting in touch and for your kind support of your local Save the Children charity store.

We are delighted to hear it is one of the stores you regularly frequent!

I am just writing to confirm that Save the Children does not have any partnerships with the organisations you mentioned.

I hope that helps to alleviate any concerns of yours.

I hope you are keeping safe and well*

found this to be interesting seeing as its Pride month and most organisations love to list their celeb supporters - this job closed in March 2021

www.charityjob.co.uk/jobs/stonewall/events-and-celebrity-officer/734152

but this bit got me looking on their website as i wanted to know who is in this growing portfolio of high profile supporters:

The Events and Celebrity Officer will report to, and work closely alongside, the Events and Celebrity Manager and will be responsible for logistical and administrative aspects of the team’s biggest events. The Events and Celebrity officer will also play a big part in working with Stonewall’s growing portfolio of incredible high profile and high value supporters.

can anyone find it on their site? maybe i've missed something but just find it odd that when anyone with a profile or need to virtue signal during June is making sure everyone knows about it and groups like SW show off their supporters to anyone who'll listen but cant find anything here

maybe reading too much into it but could this be hidden just like their champions? along with these champions are celebs also dropping like flies/wanting their connection hidden?

Anyone watching the discussion called Crisis in Stonewall and the trans rights debate right now on GB News? Really good. I think they are going to interview Peter Tatchell soon.

The programme is called Free Speech Nation. If you miss it maybe you can get it on catch up or youtube. Some of their interviews and shows are being replayed on youtube. It started at 4pm

SpindleWhorl · 19/06/2021 16:56

Thanks for the heads up - just turned it over.

SpindleWhorl · 19/06/2021 17:12

Not seen such a hagiographic interview for a while.

DansMaPoche · 19/06/2021 18:01

SpindleWhorl if you can try to watch the first bit, the interview with the trans woman it's well worth it. She's a gender critical trans woman who accepts that she is biologically a man and that women are adult human females. She says 'just because I feel happier presenting as a woman doesn't mean I am one. She also said she thinks women deserve protection in women only spaces. Didn't catch her name, not sure whether she's well known or not but I really enjoyed listening to her perspective.

Paralithic · 19/06/2021 18:40

Wasn’t that Debbie Hayton?

@Tesla73 An Assistant role is an entry level role & a pay grade below an Officer in the Charity sector. You are not comparing like with like.

DansMaPoche · 19/06/2021 21:52

Paralithic just googled and yes, that is her.

What a mess.

DansMaPoche · 20/06/2021 15:34

They are repeating the Stonewall in Crisis discussion on GB news right now and the Debbie Hayton interview is happening now, Peter Tatchell interview to follow for anyone who missed it.

SpindleWhorl · 20/06/2021 16:25

Thanks, I caught the Debbie Hayton piece. In this segment, the interviewer Andrew Doyle seemed very clued up and switched on.

Then it cut to Peter Tatchell and it changed - Doyle seemed more deferential almost.

But maybe that's my frustration at no-one ever digging down into Tatchell's letter writing history, mistakes, weird shit, and enduring influence.

StellaAndCrow · 20/06/2021 17:49

Is there still a way to check the list? I'm sure the organisation I work for wasn't on the list when I checked about 3 months ago, but they've just put a Gender policy out for consultation, and this mentions that they're a Stonewall Champion and that the policy is informed by Stonewall. And it's their first ever gender identity policy, so I'm wondering if they've just joined.
