I want to cry. Are we Canada?

When is this to happen? I know Leo was on about this recently. I checked Ds's 6th class RSE recently and it wasn't mentioned. It is a Catholic school, so Catholic teaching, but my understanding is that the government plans to enforce this on all schools?

MournfulTromboneNoise · 23/05/2021 09:28

I'd homeschool before I'd let this happen.

My child doesn't like stereotypical stuff for their sex. They're comfortable and confident in their choices. Why on earth would I let someone plant a seed that they're on a path to drugs and surgery?

CarmenSanDiego2020 · 23/05/2021 09:32

I think if kids are being thought that puberty is a gift from God we have much more to worry about!

MnaWomanIreland · 23/05/2021 09:33

It’s the NCCA www.curriculumonline.ie/Primary/Curriculum-Areas/Social,-Personal-and-Health-Education/Junior-and-Senior-Infants/

Gender Identity and Gender Expression for Junior Infants in the form of picture books.

My kids have already been taught this. Everyone has a gender identity apparently. Gender is a combination of your body, gender expression and how you feel. And testosterone is a hormone that makes your body male.

I spoke to the principal and she pretty much said this is a government approved course and if you don’t like it you are free to remove your child from these classes.

Mylittlepony374 · 23/05/2021 09:34

Where can I see details of this? I have one about to start school, I'd like to be prepared. I've spent her first 4 years reinforcing that her brother can wear dresses and still be a boy, she can choose clothes from the ”boys” section and still be a girl etc etc so I'll be vocal in pushback on this.

Looks like you can choose this or “God went to Mary’s bedroom and she was scared but opened her legs anyway.” Take your pick.

This is the link to INTO that the NCCA send acceptable. Scroll down for the pages (and pages) of gender identity and gender expression

The RSE I read was completely clear and factual, no mention of God in it.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/05/2021 09:45

They like their princess boys, don't they?

Irishmom7 · 23/05/2021 09:49

I’m Ok with normalising boys wearing dresses and LGB families. Even the gender expression sections seem to be saying express yourself however you like (not sure why it’s called gender expression then) I have a real issue with the gender identity pages though - feelings change all the bloody time.

MnaWomanIreland · 23/05/2021 09:53

This is stereotyping BIG TIME!! If you like dresses you are a girl.

Where are we protecting and celebrating our gender non conforming children?!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/05/2021 09:54

I didn't read it that carefully but I hope that it included stuff about how girls can be leaders, have opinions, be strong, be explorers, like mud, be smart and assertive.

Mud aside, that pretty much sums me up as an adult woman but for some reason that kinds of 'identity' for women is still frowned on.

Why not a Prince Boy wearing a frock?

This is how I feel about it too. I have no issues with children being taught that it is okay to dress as you want, to play as you want and with the breaking down of stereotypes. But gender ideology tend to reinforce the opposite, which is not what I want my children to be taught.

Yes - this is not about being who you are, thoughts, likes, abilities, desires etc. irrespective of sex, it’s about corrosive stereotypes being inflicted on your sex.

Remember the mermaids gender spectrum picture - stick thin (anorexic) pink barbie for girls and muscular action man (can’t remember the colour - but not pink) for boys.

This is regressive harmful bullshit. It is not true. There is no evidence base for a gender identity. IT NEEDS TO STOP.

Babdoc · 23/05/2021 10:58

Irishmom7, as a Christian, I find your post offensive and a total misrepresentation.
When Gabriel explained God’s plan to Mary, she consented - “Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it unto me according to thy word”.
And there was no physical sex involved, let alone your crude description. It was an immaculate conception by the Holy Spirit.
If you must insult my religion, at least check the details first.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/05/2021 11:06

Agree babdoc.

fireproofwitch · 23/05/2021 11:10

The reason I mentioned Catholic school was because, despite the many faults within the Istitution that is the Catholic Church , it would be completely against the Catholic ethos to teach that someone can be born in the wrong body.

EdgeOfACoin · 23/05/2021 11:12

Also agree, Babdoc.

Irishmom7 · 23/05/2021 11:59

Apologies for misrepresenting your religion.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 23/05/2021 14:57

Not just Ireland - UK primary schools in my area can have an equality charter which mentions gender, gender identity and sexual orientation - but not sex.
