Well done to J. K. Rowling for winning a Nibbie (British Book Awards, organised by The Bookseller) - Troubled Blood has been voted Book of the Year - Crime & Thrillers.

I've just read the entire series of Strike books and watched the first four BBC adaptations. Loved them. Delighted to see this recognition.

I'm posting here, as this feels like a brave decision, in a year when JKR has stood up for women's rights and suffered dog's abuse as a result. Additionally, I thought Troubled Blood contained a lot of interesting insights into women's lives, both in the 1970s and now. The dinner party was excruciating but I was cheering Strike on, as just one example.

Excellent news. I discovered the Strike books this year and read them all. Cracking series, well done JKR

toffeebutterpopcorn · 13/05/2021 19:35

@ BoreOfWhabylon I read this one first because it was a beautiful case bound version, and it is fine to follow (things are explained!). I then read the rest ‘in order’.

AnCatDubh · 13/05/2021 19:41

Ah fantastic! Well done and well deserved 💐

I had pre ordered it and then saved it as a treat for when I handed in final assignments... It was worth the wwait! Love the Strike series.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/05/2021 19:57

Thanks toffee. That's what I'll do then Smile

PurpleWh1teGreen · 13/05/2021 20:05

Oh that's great news and thoroughly deserved. Star I loved the book and cared about the characters in it.

I predict a tantrum or two though.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 13/05/2021 20:07

BoreOfWhabylon - I should warn you that I sometimes read the last chapter of books first. But I did enjoy reading this own (first).

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/05/2021 20:22

So do I! Grin

BattyOrange · 13/05/2021 20:35

I'm delighted by this news! Troubled Blood is an excellent novel - in fact the whole Strike series is brilliant. JKR is a really clever writer and I race through her books because I can't wait to see what happens next but then I'm sorry when I get to the end because I've finished them!

JKR is a wonderful woman and she thoroughly deserves this award. It's also good to see The Bookseller fearlessly acknowledging her in the face of potential consequences so well done to them as well.

I do too. But then I go back and re-read to savour all the lovely detail. Grin

Excellent news!

Rhannion · 13/05/2021 21:35

@TwistedEyeOfHorus

Excellent news! It was a brilliant read. And fantastic to read this on the same day JK has announced a 6 figure sum from the sale of The Ickabog has gone to India for Covid aid. What a great lady!
What a star JK is and what a great thing to do with the money
Mollyollydolly · 13/05/2021 21:44

Never been more delighted at someone winning an award. The last one was a brilliant read and she's a thoroughly good egg. Should be in the House of Lords but I suspect she'd tell them to get stuffed.

Womansisterdaughtermother · 13/05/2021 21:46

Love these books! I have read them a little out of sequence, and just ordered my remaining one The Silkworm in my public library....Wonderful news for the amazing JKR.... Our heroine!

Babdoc · 13/05/2021 22:24

I bought one Strike book purely to spite the TRAs for their abuse of JKR, hugely enjoyed it and bought the whole series! So their abuse has led to increased profits for JKR and her publisher. Delighted at her getting the award.

SunsetBeetch · 13/05/2021 22:25

Oh fabulous! Congratulations JK aka She Who Cannot Be Cancelled.

I bet TRAs are frothing.

FannyCann · 13/05/2021 22:35

Great news for JKR.

I loved Troubled Blood. I hadn't read the previous books, and was hesitant to having watched and enjoyed the tv programmes. Have just finished The Cuckoo's Calling and wondered if this brief sentence was a clue to terfyness to come?

I'm going to have to work my way through the rest aren't I!

Troubled Blood wins Crime Book of the Year!
Pudmyboy · 13/05/2021 23:24

@FannyCann: what do you mean by 'terfyness to come'? She is no such thing! Brilliant author and like others I prefer Strike to HP, though I liked the Cursed Child, even though a script rather than a novel it still stirred my imagination

Wandawomble · 14/05/2021 00:47

Massive cheer. It’s a great book. She is a great woman.

ArcheryAnnie · 14/05/2021 11:03

The "six-figure sum" announced by the covid relief charity in India, just from the sales of the India-edition of the Ickabog (there's different regional editions with different illustrations, which is such a good idea, as it means more kids get their illustrations published) is just amazing.

Can you imagine the impact for all those kids whose illustrations have been published in all the various editions? They've got a signed JKR book with their drawing in it, and if they go into illustration, they've got the most killer first entry on their CV that anyone could possibly imagine!

That project was so well done, from start to finish.

(Also yy on Strike. Bloody love it. Love the adaptations, too.)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/05/2021 11:07

Well done to JKR Thanks

RedDogsBeg · 14/05/2021 13:53

I didn't realise that different regional editions had different illustrations, how fabulous. All those children whose illustrations were printed must be walking on air, just fantastic.

JKR is an absolutely wonderful woman.

Whatwouldrowando · 14/05/2021 19:55

Fantastic! I live in a tiny space so these days either get books from the library or read on Kindle. But I bought the hardback brick of this one!

Also, sorry to PPs, but Strike is miiiiiine...

EverythingWasGolden · 14/05/2021 20:20

Oh I loved Troubled Blood. All the strike books actually and the TV adaptations.

JoodyBlue · 14/05/2021 21:00

Love the books too. I have always really invested in JKR's characters, she writes so well. It is from observation of people and she does it in such a shrewd but kind and empathetic way. So pleased she got an award, definitely well deserved.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/05/2021 21:02

Reading it at the mo. Loving it so far. Smile
