You'll need to brace yourself for this. What the Train Manager said is really horrific. You can tell that from LNER's apology on Twitter.

London North Eastern Railway
@LNER Replying to @laurencec123
I'm really sorry to see this, Laurence, our Train Managers should not be using language like this, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention, Please could you let me know which service you are on and I will ensure they remain as inclusive as we strive to be at LNER.

OK, steady yourselves now. I attach a screenshot of the original complaint, which I saw on another Twitter account. The complainer has made their Tweets private, probably because of the avalanche of robust and forthright hateful responses to the LNER tweet above.

I trust the Train Manager has been sent for re-training (as it were). Poor bugger.

Laurence certainly has a lot of time on Laurence's hands...

Immediately brought to mind David Bowie's lyrics for 'Time': genius.com/David-bowie-time-lyrics

Oi, you've missed out those who are no longer menstruators and ejaculators who can no longer ejaculate. Tsk, tsk.

@RedDogsBeg don't worry, women old enough for the menopause are invisible to society and Mick Jagger is living proof that a man is 'never too old'.

DdraigGoch · 13/05/2021 21:29

I forgot to embolden the quoted bit in my last post. Oh well.

And some reps are only in it to make a name for themselves or to feather their own nest with incredible amounts of overtime spent on ‘meetings’.
Perhaps I should dye my hair blue. It might bring better chances of overtime than squabbling over Sundays.

CallMeCleo · 13/05/2021 21:48

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Personally, I don't think sex or gender is relevant here. I'd prefer 'Good Morning Passengers' personally. For a start, I ain't no lady.
The railways abolished the term "passengers" two decades ago.
CallMeCleo · 13/05/2021 21:51

The attention-seeking nonbinaryist is a railway worker reporting a "fellow" member of staff and a "brother" in his own trades union!

That reminds me, RMT meeting minutes tend to refer to people as "Brother Smith" or "Sister Jones". I wonder how this person is referred.

Please let's not go thereGrin!

McPancreas · 13/05/2021 22:29

I'm in a trade union which is great however one galling aspect is you are forced to financially support tools like this in their gender identity/hard left crusades.

I think it's usually just 'Oh Brother!'.
bumblenbean · 14/05/2021 00:27

For Christ’s sake. Have a day off Laurence Hmm

This shit is getting out of hand. He can identify as whatever the hell he wants. The entire rail network does not have to tailor its communications to his demands. Oh wait ...

Defaultname · 14/05/2021 00:56

This just in-Marylebone Station now identifies as Queergender/non-binary. Which will be a relief to some!

newnortherner111 · 14/05/2021 07:07

I wonder what would have happened if the train was going to Manchester or if it has a station, Mansfield. Would it have to be announced as 'the station after Stockport locally known as Piccadilly'?

The train now approaching
Glasgogetyerserealworries
Middle cod’s wallop
Up yersel minster
Snowfleckney
Twatt

Appears to have someone very full of their own importance on it.

And as for you and your forelock tugging LNER?

Get Benton

toffeebutterpopcorn · 14/05/2021 08:22

There was an old 2 Ronnies sketch where the news story was that any place with ‘sex’ in it was replaces with ‘thingy’ (so Middlethingy). Oh how we laughed at the craziness...

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/05/2021 08:28

The bit I have bother with is that they apologised for their language

If they said good morning to everyone in the special stylee, folk would be full of whinge because there would be no time to announce upcoming stations. Cue missed stops everywhere.

As you said toffee - it was funny back in the day but not so funny now it is real.

Imagine being so fucking speshul that you can bring a company to its knees with a tweet.

I bet this fecker wouldn’t have been so bold in person.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 14/05/2021 08:34

Wait until these young ‘uns get older (and thereby irrelevant) and no one listens to their whinging anymore. Lord alone knows what the next gen along will latch onto.

Artichokeleaves · 14/05/2021 09:49

What is this "who hurt you" ? Is this the new insult going around? What the hell does it mean?

I think it's supposed to imply that your unreasonable demand or comment must stem from psychological distress and a faulty redirection of that distress upon the person you..... are requesting to stop picking their nose and eating it, or to pick up their pokemon cards.

It's somewhere in their with 'talk to the hand' . 'you're not the boss of me', and 'shan't'. Laurence's mummy has a bit of a failure to launch problem here really.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 14/05/2021 09:49

😂

NewlyGranny · 14/05/2021 09:54

Perhaps every announcement starting "Ladies and gentlemen..." needs to be repeated so non-binary passengers can listen to both and make up their own minds which applies? That would fix it.

If the speaker switches to using "Every one" instead, wouldn't the two spirit passengers feel excluded?
