You'll need to brace yourself for this. What the Train Manager said is really horrific. You can tell that from LNER's apology on Twitter.

London North Eastern Railway
@LNER Replying to @laurencec123
I'm really sorry to see this, Laurence, our Train Managers should not be using language like this, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention, Please could you let me know which service you are on and I will ensure they remain as inclusive as we strive to be at LNER.

OK, steady yourselves now. I attach a screenshot of the original complaint, which I saw on another Twitter account. The complainer has made their Tweets private, probably because of the avalanche of robust and forthright hateful responses to the LNER tweet above.

I trust the Train Manager has been sent for re-training (as it were). Poor bugger.

So why do you want to work for east rail?
Well - ever since I was a little engine, always loved Thomas and want to meet him! Can I see him? Is he here?
You got the job...

StillFemale · 13/05/2021 18:41

Does anyone know whether the train manager was male or female?

And did the NB (but oh so obviously male) Laurence know them? This could be straightforward bullying of a colleague.

RedDogsBeg · 13/05/2021 18:53

@NoToast

Good afternoon ejaculators, menstruators and pre-pubescents.
Oi, you've missed out those who are no longer menstruators and ejaculators who can no longer ejaculate. Tsk, tsk.
AfternoonToffee · 13/05/2021 19:07

Both of us are non-binary and we were both alarmed and uncomfortable by the lack of inclusion.

(From the news report) I mean how fragile do you have to be that this alarms you. I honestly wonder how some people actually manage to get dressed every morning.

NoToast · 13/05/2021 19:37

RedDogsBeg

I can only grovel and apologise that I made you feel alarmed and unsafe. If only we had some handy, friendly generic terms that include more than they exclude.

Sigh.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 13/05/2021 19:43

Alarmed and unsafe? Have neither of them ever caught the last tube home?

MondayYogurt · 13/05/2021 19:49

ELEVEN people to run their social media???

Are we taking bets on which one posted the dancing trolls?

Toughen up princess!

For consistency, I think kids should be 'runny-nosers'.
ChewtonRoad · 13/05/2021 19:57

"Good afternoon cervix-havers, the be-penised, and those who have had the following surgical procedures ..."

Laurence seems to have disappeared so far up his own backside he may never be seen again. #thoughtsandprayersforspecialLaurence #Laurenceisn't listening

Based on linkedin I have a fairly good idea already...
toffeebutterpopcorn · 13/05/2021 19:59

They actually have a LinkedIn account? How very grown up...

Loads of women dislike 'ladies' for a variety of reasons

When they've been threads on here saying it most people say don't be silly shut up

I doubt that many women have actually tried to get it's use stopped!

And if they did we all know what the answer would be...

NoToast · 13/05/2021 20:12

My pre-teen runny-noser (all other nose or non-nose situations valid etc.) responds to a lot of requests to do stuff etc. with 'who hurt you' which really does underscore the quality and maturity of that response.

(My money on the beardy one who didn't want to confirm to the dress code)

Pandoraslastchance · 13/05/2021 20:18

This thread has cheered me up no end! Well in fact it made me wheeze and nearly choke on my Turkish delight.

But wow 76 pages(or whatever) of pronouns! This is just a tad um...ridiculous.

Him??? Did you ask Thomas their pronouns? Did you???

What, the gap between his ears?

"Penalty for inappropriate (i.e. non gender-related) use £1,000".

Nametychangety · 13/05/2021 20:51

As you can see I’ve name changed for this.

This is not unusual for the reasons stated above - they can look all inclusive and happy clappy without spending a bean.

And some reps are only in it to make a name for themselves or to feather their own nest with incredible amounts of overtime spent on ‘meetings’. An admirable feet during lockdown.

If they’re not cosying up to the management, they are tooting their own flute harder than James Galway ever tooted it.

It is tiresome.

Disappointed in this on so many levels. But sadly not surprised.

I’m all for inclusivity but not to this self indulgent level.

It needs to stop.

MondayYogurt · 13/05/2021 20:52

@stonecat

What is this "who hurt you" ?

Is this the new insult going around? What the hell does it mean?

It's actually extremely ableist rhetoric. Gatekeeping feeling hurt is literal violence. Identifying as hurt is valid. Minimising emotional conflicts is oppression.
