Not many details but Sarah Phillmore has tweeted that a woman has been told to present herself to the police.

@ArabellaScott

It's a bill specifically designed to make those pesky women shut the fuck up isn't it?

Oh, perhaps it's coincidence that women are not covered by the Bill, surely?

Either every group should be covered, or none. Excluding women is so clearly discriminatory it would be funny, if it wasn't so offensive.
ArabellaScott · 28/04/2021 18:53

@BrandineDelRoy

Is there a plot we could dig into?
MurrayBlackburn Mackenzie do great work on protecting women's rights, as do ForWomenScotland.

I think it's a bit too late for this Bill, although god knows everyone hopes it is repealed, quickly.

ArabellaScott · 28/04/2021 18:54

I wonder of we could travel north and be of some help.

Are we allowed in yet? Though I do know of a couple of gaps in a hedge where we could sneak in. Wink
ArabellaScott · 28/04/2021 19:50

Oh, good point! I'd forgotten about the plague! I daresay anyone planning sedition will be stopped at the border and diverted to the re-education gulags.

Igneococcus · 28/04/2021 19:52

Yeah, you're allowed in again. I heard lots of English accents when I cycled past the campsite near me today.

ArabellaScott · 28/04/2021 19:53

What, really? But you can't stay overnight anywhere, I thought.

WarriorN · 28/04/2021 19:57

If they included women in the bill it would demonstrate that, as Kirsty let slip accidentally, there are actual women and 'women.'

They're an incredibly misogynistic government.,

Igneococcus · 28/04/2021 19:59

From the Scot.gov site:

"From 26 April, Scotland is treated as a single area at protection Level 3. As a result there are no restrictions on travel within Scotland, but other rules and guidance are in place that may affect your travel plans. For example, you can stay overnight away from home, for example in self-catered accommodation, in a hotel or a B&B, but only with members of your own household or extended household. You cannot stay overnight with family or friends in a private house unless they are part of your extended household. "

Tourists are definitely back, it's a lot busier than it was.

Igneococcus · 28/04/2021 20:00

Oh, and this is the bit about restUK:

"From 26 April, Scottish Coronavirus regulations permit unrestricted travel within Scotland and between Scotland and England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man. Travel restrictions remain in place for travel between Scotland and the rest of the world."

We mocked when we were called next door to a bubonic plague (Alex Sharpe?) but here we are.

I hope details will emerge, I’ll certainly be reaching for my spade.

FFS I hope this gets some publicity before we go to the polls.

theThreeofWeevils · 28/04/2021 21:13

'Tartan Spartacus' has something of a ring to it.

SciFiScream · 28/04/2021 21:21

Life in Scotland could head the way of the book Vox. Where women have a word limit and cannot speak.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 28/04/2021 21:23

This is Mumsnet. What would the Spartacus Tartan look like - a pattern of vipers?
MsFogi · 28/04/2021 21:29

Indeed these summonses should be used as "I am Spartacus" moments - every GC woman in Scotland turn up to their local police station at the relevant time to turn themselves in for being GC?

PigeonPants · 28/04/2021 21:29

Thanks, Tibtom! Now I'll have time to pick up a bowtie so if I do transgress, I'll at least be somewhat protected as a crossdresser while doing so.

theThreeofWeevils · 28/04/2021 21:34

Only very rigid and geometrically minded vipers: not sure the world is ready for serpentine plaid.
Strikes me as a lighthearted aside that there is also a subtle reminder there that men can wear skirts and look very fine.

Tibtom · 28/04/2021 22:06

I agree and I think this could be its downfall as it breaches the european convention on human rights (or at least it looks like it does to me). If it does them it isn't law as the scottish government doesn't have power to legislate in breach of the ECHR.

Mumsnut · 28/04/2021 22:26

I think the tartan should be purple, green and white

ArabellaScott · 28/04/2021 23:05

Kilts are non binary

@Mumsnut

I think the tartan should be purple, green and white
Green and white on a purple ground, then. But we also need a hunting tartan, a very deep green ground without the white featuring much for reasons of stealth and blending in. Lighter green and purple detail.

Actually I am musing, but I know the lead time is considerable and the margins minute, about purple, white and green fabrics more generally. Any specialist knowledge here?

MissBarbary · 29/04/2021 01:19

@AfternoonToffee

Well what a surprise.

One Tweet did say it hadn't passed through Parliament yet so isn't actually law, is that the case?

The Act received Royal Assent but only sections 17, 21 and 22 have a commencement date. They came into effect the day after Royal Assent . Section 17 only gives the Scottish Ministers power to make regulations by way of Statutory Instruments to bring in the nuts and bolts of how the Act will work. Sections 21 and 22 are also technical points only.

This is not, whatever else it may or may not be, the first prosecution, or attempt to prosecute, under the Act.
