Podcasts to explain (in simple terms) the "trans" debate

Apologies if my terminology is wrong, this is an area I'd really like to improve my knowledge and understanding of. I like to listen to audio books while out walking so I thought it would be a good idea to have a book or podcast on the whole trans debate that could give me a basic understanding of what's going on and the various arguments being put forward.

All recommendations most welcome, thanks Smile

Hi OP. This thread should be helpful

is a good podcast. The hosts are extremely knowledgeable, and one American, one Irish, so straddling the huge US/UK divide.

Everyone seems to like Abigail Shrier's Irreversible Damage, but it's focused on transitioning young girls.

I reckon Helen Joyce's book is likely to be excellent, but not out to July. That should be broader in scope than Irreversible Damage.

Thank you both so much, I'll get listening 👍🏻

I second A Wider Lens. It's really good. I'd say its VERY broad about gender and dysphoria though and it won't necessarily lead you into the main issues or political sticking points about the Trans 'debate'.

If you're prepared to scroll right back a few dozen episodes you could try The Mess We're In with Graham Linehan, Arty Morty and Helen Staniland. They often have amazing guests who really explain their cause. However they have an very GC stance so don't expect a 'neutral' viewpoint. I really enjoy it though.

Also Feminist Currant with Meghan Murphy has some great guest interviews on this subject. Helen Joyce is a good one.

There are a couple of episodes of Triggernometry (found on YouTube or Apple Podcasts) that touch on this in detail - Kellie-Jay (Posie Parker) is an old one but is coming up for nearly 1 million views on YT. Also, Marcus Evans is fascinating who was a whistleblower for the Tavistock Clinic.

On Youtube Benjamin .A. Boyce tends to have lots of different people from endocrinologists to trans people to de transitioners to everyone in between. He also lets them talk and doesn't pontificate.

I also second Triggernomotry, there have been some great discussions, and I've learned a lot on different topics from people I don't always agree with and wouldn't usually listen to.

If you want a strictly feminist perspective - Meghan Murphy and Posie Parker.

There's another Youtube channel called UnHerd which has interesting guests on - they have an interview with Suzanne Moore a while ago about why she left the Guardian.

Benjamin Boyce also has a podcast which is basically the audio of his YouTube conversations.

Julian Vigo has a good podcast called "Savage Minds."

Although sometimes I find that both Boyce and Vigo talk a lot & I wish they'd let their guests speak more. BUt I suppose they are conversations & discussions, rather than interviews.

Thanks everyone, plenty for me to get listening to now - I'll be walking a marathon at this rate Grin
