This happened this week.

A friend of my DDs met up with their mixed sex friendship group to play rugby.

They have done this since primary school and its the same group of friends. Its not a match and none of them play as a hobby they just mess around but do tackle each other.

They haven't done this in over a year due to covid ( and probably shouldn't have done it yesterday as restrictions are still in place Hmm) but decided to resume their game from last year. As I said they have done this for years and the only injuries have been grazed knees and a few bruises.

Sadly one girl was tackled by one of the boys and it resulted in her foot being broken in 4 places!
The boy was distraught. He's a lovely lad and not aggressive in any way. My DD told me that he has grown in the last year, he's much taller and stronger than he used to be but still a "skinny" lad. He kept saying he didn't mean to tackle her so hard, he didn't realise how strong he was.
DD said he knocked her clean off her feet, he wasn't running fast it is just a friendly game but the injured girl said it was like running in to a wall.
She recovering at home and doesn't blame the young lad at all as it was an accident.

This just highlights to me the dangers of mixed sex contact sport. These kids don't train, are not professionals and we're only playing but the boys strength caused injury can you imagine what a professional or semi professional males could do to females when tackling?

I worry for the safety of female rugby players and fear it will take a woman to die or have life changing injuries for the governing bodies see sense.

IamnotH

I would read your post if only you had bothered to read mine...it was NOT my child that was injured. I made that perfectly clear in my OP.
You clearly are missing the point if you cannot be bothered to read the first post Hmm

@Creepygnochi
My niece wants to be a solicitor. Shall I advise her to watch someone else get in a legal dispute and then hey presto she’ll know more about law than anyone else ever. Grin

I think they are damned if they do and damned if they don't regarding same sex sports. Surely it's better for women to have the choice?

334bu · 17/04/2021 22:59

Doesn't matter if only mucking about. Doesn't matter if fluke accident.
What matters is that males who have gone through puberty have no place in female contact sports. All the evidence proves that their inclusion is dangerous for women and also totally unfair. Those who advocate for male inclusion don't give a for women

Missing before women

For some reason MN doesn't like my trying to replace a four letter with asterisks. F...!

I don't think girls should play rugby.

I'll let my county playing DD know that! She's 5'3, 110lbs and never sustained a serious injury.
I'll ask my brother what he thinks. He's just buggered his second knee. His penis didn't stop him getting injured (again). He won't play again now.

Well they do and are bloody good at it too! England Roses anyone?

What is the issue here is that anyone who plays rugby is taught how to play/tackle/scrum safely-this is a bunch of kids messing about and was always going to end badly at some point-growth spurts or not...

And thanks for the RFU link above-have filled in and put it out to our girls team.

@rwalker

It's about size and power with rugby not gender. A boy of the same build would of got the same injury. Rugby by the nature of the game is rough and aggressive
You are correct that anyone of the same build is just as vulnerable. Now please use the linked information to tell us what the likelihood is of a female player being several inches smaller than her male opponent compared with a male-on-male tackle. ourworldindata.org/human-height
RabbitOfCaerbannog · 17/04/2021 23:34

The average female is smaller and less strong than the average male - discuss...

DdraigGoch · 17/04/2021 23:40

@Creepygnochi I agree with your views that foot injuries are more to do with the way one lands than the impact itself but can't you see how the law of conservation of momentum applies? If a heavy object and a light object collide, the light one will go flying, not the heavy one.

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 17/04/2021 23:43

It's a good job you were both there when it happened

334bu · 17/04/2021 23:46

Any girl the same size as a boy will be a lot less powerful and will have less dense bones, so it really is all about the difference in sex and nothing else. Rugby is tough and aggressive and because of this boys playing with girls is an accident waiting to happen. It is just common sense to exclude boys from female rugby.

LastRoloIsMine · 17/04/2021 23:48

Just to clarify he knocked her clean off her feet and she landed badly breaking 4 bones in her foot.

The impact didn't just knock her over, my DD said she went in to the air. The boy did nothing wrong he was just stronger. As I said she's not a small girl. She towered over all in her year 16 months ago.

Children get injured when they play thats just fact. The reason I posted is because the girl was shocked just how much it hurt and how hard it was and he wasn't even trying. Imagine if he had tried...

My DDs' school teaches PE in single sexes and by ability. I don't know if that's a regulatory thing, or just common sense? Having boys Vs girls is stupid, and having girls who are amazing at PE Vs girls who are...not would be anything but fun. I think their top set PE is mixed though, but they tend to be the ones who do a sport for County, etc.
