Can see another three on this - sorry if duplicating. Was just wondering how others answered the gender question?

I went with other then explained 'I don't ascribe the to social construct of gender I am a women: adult human female'

I didn't put anything for the gender question as its just for people who identify as trans.

JaneAustenFanClub · 21/03/2021 13:11

I just skipped that question as it is voluntary and I don’t consider myself to have a gender identity

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/03/2021 13:20

In this household, I skipped the question. After some discussion with me about what the question was supposed to mean (conclusion: he has no feeling of having a gender identity, but does know what sex he is, hence the question is irrelevant), my husband skipped it too. I don't know what our son did. We did it online. Pleasantly surprised by how easy it was.

jellybe · 21/03/2021 13:21

Was very surprised how easy it was to do. Thought it was going to take me ages.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/03/2021 13:25

I skipped that one because it doesn't apply to me. Don't know what husband or teens put as we all filled in our own bits.

jellybe · 21/03/2021 13:28

Yeah don't know what DH for that bit. I did the kids and their gender wasn't asked I guess it was due to them being under 16.

I left it blank as the guidance states I should tick yes if I identify as female and my registered sex at birth is female or I should tick no if my gender identity is different to the sex recorded on my birth certificate, for example if I am transgender or non-binary.

The ONS states that "Gender identity is a personal internal perception of oneself and, as such, the gender category with which a person identifies may not match the sex they were registered at birth. In contrast, sex is biologically determined" and gender is "a social construction relating to behaviours and attributes based on labels of masculinity and femininity"

The wording of the question is "Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?" I do not identify with any gender - masculine or feminine, and I am not transgender or non-binary, therefore the most accurate way for me to answer that question is to leave it blank, as there is no part of it that applies to me.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 21/03/2021 13:48

Left it blank and sent it off with a tweaked template letter from sex in the census. OH's also blank.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 21/03/2021 13:50

Filling it in later. Have a paper copy so planning to leave it blank and to send tweaked letter.

Sophoclesthefox · 21/03/2021 13:53

Left it blank. Filled it in together with husband, who also left it blank, then went to do something else as I thought we’d finished. I came back ten minutes later to find him furiously typing a gender critical essay in the comments box on the Judicial Review and how scandalised he was at the dishonesty, the shoddy approach to data integrity, and the waste of taxpayers money in defending the case Grin I love him very much.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 21/03/2021 13:58

👏👏👏

ValancyRedfern · 21/03/2021 13:59

Letter to print out and send here: sexinthecensus.org/oncensusnight/

3beesinmybonnet · 21/03/2021 14:20

I waffled a bit but basically said in the comments box at the end that I would've liked a space to say why I hadn't answered which is because I don't identify with a gender. I have a sex which is female.

ScribblingPixie · 21/03/2021 15:01

I left it blank then added a note in the feedback to say why.

howard97A · 21/03/2021 15:29

There is an invitation to provide feedback. Mine was:

" A full inquiry is needed into this travesty: why did the ONS squander public funds and its own reputation? And what is the relationship between its senior team and activists?"

(Janice Turner in The Times 20th March)

I hope Sir Ian will find the courage to attempt a response

BettyFilous · 21/03/2021 15:45

I made use of the comments box too. It was cathartic.

gardenbird48 · 21/03/2021 16:53

Mimmybirthingparent still encouraging people to complete the sex question incorrectly Hmm

On the upside it could result in more sex based services for women I guess?

gardenbird48 · 21/03/2021 16:53

Oops, screenshot.

MrsWooster · 21/03/2021 17:10

Mimmybirthingparent (genius, btw) needs to be accepting responsibility when funding for transpeople vanishes due to lack of numbers.

jellybe · 21/03/2021 17:32

Isn't there some sort of law against purposely filling in the census incorrectly?

OP posts:
InthekeyofG · 21/03/2021 20:03

Gender question- I put No gender in other

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 21/03/2021 20:18

@jellybe

If you don't have a gender identity it's not filling it incorrectly to leave that blank and to explain your reasons why. I'm not going to be manipulated into professing to be something I'm not by an ideologically captured arm of the government. Not responding to a question is quite different to claiming to be of the opposite biological sex.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/03/2021 20:44

I think @jellybe was suggesting that Mmmm*m was encouraging people to fill the census in incorrectly.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 21/03/2021 20:45

Ah, my bad

SirSamuelVimes · 21/03/2021 21:31

Just filled my paper copy in. Left gender question blank. Sending the letter from Sex in the Census (had to write out by hand because I don't have a printer - fuck me, it's long!) which while mostly focused on the use of the sex data also explains why I haven't answered the gender identity question.

I also enjoyed recording my sexuality as "superstraight". DH did his the same way.

Luckily my dds are too young so I didn't have to deal with the gender crap for them anyway.
