The audacity.

M&S, a safe space
OP posts:
Tibtom · 16/03/2021 00:37

For whom? Certainly not women.

Akire · 16/03/2021 00:38

Ha been a good 18 months since been in and not going start now.

GreyhoundG1rl · 16/03/2021 00:44

Why would anyone feeling "unsafe" decide to go into M & S rather than a police station? Am I missing something? Confused
How random...

NiceGerbil · 16/03/2021 01:27

What a bizarre thing to say!

MsGrumpytrousers · 16/03/2021 02:05

Dear god, I absolutely loathe these vacuous corporate bletherings. Give some money to women's refuges or somebody who's actually doing something practical to help, or shut the heck up with your meaningless virtue-signalling crap. AND NOBODY IS GOING OUT YOU MORONS.

Having been followed around the lingerie department by a dirty old man who commented on my bra size and choices, I’m going to go with NO!

(This was 10+ years ago, before they started positively encouraging men to shop in the lingerie department).

They don't have women only changing rooms

Xanthangum · 16/03/2021 06:42

Oh I so hoped from the title that they had seen the error of their ways.... more fool me.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 16/03/2021 06:46

I loved M&S for decades until they started welcoming men into the women’s changing rooms. Haven’t set foot in there since. My wardrobe is crammed with M&S clothes so I won’t run out before I find a new place to shop!

zzizzer · 16/03/2021 06:52

What's the context?

Why on earth would they be saying somewhere indoors is a safe place, come and stay as long as you want? Surely that's as daft as you can get during Covid-19?

Cinderellashoes · 16/03/2021 06:53

Safe space for everyone except in their changing rooms. Angry M and S if you ever view this thread I hope you’re ashamed of yourselves

StealthPolarBear · 16/03/2021 06:55

Apart from anything else it's real bandwagon jumping isn't it? They're not the only ones, sure I saw another shop post the same.

StealthPolarBear · 16/03/2021 06:56

The chances of anyone feeling unsafe anywhere near an M&S that's open are slim I'd say.

en0la · 16/03/2021 06:57

It's not safe for anybody. When my 2 year old played hide abs seek under a clothes rail they didn't send any staff to the doors and only offered to call her name and tell her to go to customer services.

zzizzer · 16/03/2021 06:58

Oh - as in, "if you're a vulnerable woman who is scared, come and hide inside" sort of announcement?

... That's a bit grim, using Twitter to capitalise on someone's death like that.

zzizzer · 16/03/2021 06:59

Also, what training have they given colleagues exactly? This sounds like a safeguarding nightmare that could backfire hugely the first time some vulnerable woman says she went for help and there was none.

StealthPolarBear · 16/03/2021 07:01

Really good points zizzer

Roystonv · 16/03/2021 07:01

No M and S near us so I had no idea they did not have women only changing rooms, the b**.tards. I am seething way after the event.

StealthPolarBear · 16/03/2021 07:03

Tbh I'd be more impressed if someone like mcdonalds did it. Open all hours and often in the parts of town you do tend to hurry through. We're a safe space (between the hours of 9-5 (10-4 on Sundays) and in out of town retail park) just sounds like bandwagon jumping to me.

zzizzer · 16/03/2021 07:07

On the other hand, unlimited free accommodation for any homeless person I guess. Spread the word!Smile

SpiderinaWingMirror · 16/03/2021 07:08

What really?
Pre pandemic they were welcoming men into the lingerie changing room and allowed their website to become an expression of those views in their review section.
As for trained colleagues, they had stopped staffing the shop floor years ago.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/03/2021 07:14

I have a safe space. My home there r no men here. What I need is to be able to take my dds and know any fitting sessions won't be over heard by some bloke/male next door. Good job you are crap I guess and it's not such a huge loss.

If on the other hand you realise you have alienated your core market and want women to come back, you know what you have to do. And it goes beyond some meaningless words . How stupid do you think we are.

We won't be going anywhere while whoever we are hiding from can follow us right in.

TopTabby · 16/03/2021 07:14

They're just jumping on the bandwagon here aren't they? Desperate to let us know they've 'listened'.
Shame they don't 'listen' to the very valid concerns over women only changing roomsHmm

highame · 16/03/2021 07:26

When will retail actually start to research whether we really do want their bandwaggoning or their political opinions (which they give frequently)

minchinfin · 16/03/2021 07:29

truly pathetic virtue signalling. Inside a shop is that last place I'd going I felt unsafe, especially one that welcomes men in small confined cubicles in the women's changing areas. And aren't we not supposed to be going shopping now unless for essentials like food?
