Lord Hunt tweet on FPFW ONS win:

I expect the implications of this will go far and wide. Many public bodies will need to reconsider their policies

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/03/2021 18:10

The trending hashtag on twitter is pathetic. No argument, as per, just hastags, slogans and memes. Wow, I'm definitely persuaded of the error of my ways now

If screenshots are taken, might this come back to bite the TRAs in the bum? They are actually evidencing what Glinner and Helen are claiming.

BitOfFun · 09/03/2021 18:11

Thanks so much Flowers.

stuckinatrap
"The Gay issue was also a straw man and I wish Helen or Graham had actually been able to face it head on (I'm not surprised they didn't, though). The parallel is not a fair one and, actually, the more similar scenario would be gay men and lesbians being thrown off platforms while leaving up the homophobic bullying rather than what he was trying to suggest - which is banning the homophobes.

"The issue is - again - definitions. If SM platforms don't get to the absolute definition of what constitutes real transphobia, then it is always open to interpretation and giving in to cries of hurt feelings."

I thought this would have been a great point in the session to elucidate the distinction between criticising ideas and criticising people. It is entirely possible to criticise, even quite harshly, an idea or philosophy or ideology without getting into personal criticism or attacks. The trouble is that it is convenient to elide these two, if you want to silence a critic by claiming a personal attack. It is something I notice amongst certain groups of activists in general. They get more leverage by claiming hurt from a personal attack (even when it wasn't) than by defending their arguments and positions.

It's like Maya says: people always deserve respect (at least as a starting point). Ideas never desreve respect. They are - or should be - all open to robust challenge.

Just bought Glinner a coffee. They both did well today.

testingmitb · 09/03/2021 18:19

Who was the gentleman coaching his question in a leading fashion to Graham? The one who seemed to be insinuating that there was no smoke without fire in regard to Glinner being banned from several platforms?

testingmitb · 09/03/2021 18:20

Couching, sorry.

I don't know, but I've heard he doesn't indicate at roundabouts
testingmitb · 09/03/2021 18:25

Eh?

I love, really love, being able to support people like Glinner for what they are doing for women. It's like my hobby 😀.

I put some money in for coffee, makes a change from digging 😉

Doyoumind · 09/03/2021 18:48

I've never trusted the twitter trending algorithm. It has that Glinner hashtag, which has increased by a few hundred tweets in the last hour trending higher than the tens of thousands of various tweets about Piers Morgan than have happened in the last 20 minutes.

littlebillie · 09/03/2021 19:23

I want to high 5 everyone Grin

PineappleCakes · 09/03/2021 19:26

Thanks @StPaulsCathedral for the Glinner link. Thank you @glinner for your voice.

Is there any way to dig for Helen too?

I’ve just explained what’s been going on with this ti DH. He was puzzled and then appalled

“But but what’s the point of doing the census if you don’t get accurate data?”

He’s up for donating yo future crowd funders 😁

winterinmadeira · 09/03/2021 19:35

This is great news! They were brilliant. Another coffee in.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/03/2021 19:36

You can thank Glinner directly

Yeah, I went on Twitter to see about that glinner trending hashtag. Very little use of it, about 2k uses and when I clicked through I saw two main categories of tweet as in the pic attached. Bizarre to be in Trending.

Meanwhile #Census2021 is all over the place but is not in their "Trending"

The lack of transparency coupled with such odd results does make it look like a deliberate attempt by Twitter to shape public opinion
