Buying Glinner a coffee after that speech

ValancyRedfern · 09/03/2021 16:23
@glinner I haven't been able to watch but hearing what you have sacrificed to stand alongside women and amplify our voices is just killing me. You didn't have to do this, no one made you, but you knew it was right. I have so much respect for you. Thank you.
I echo this. Thank you.

RozWatching · 09/03/2021 16:25

I'm going to watch it later but thank you Helen & Graham Star Star

LunaHeather · 09/03/2021 16:27

What's happened to Glinner's marriage? I hope his wife wasn't harrassed but she probably was, I'm guessing.

I still cannot believe we got here, I mean this whole mess.

teawamutu · 09/03/2021 16:27

Heart-rendering and inspiring. Thank you Helen and @Glinner

Fallingirl · 09/03/2021 16:28

Helen’s mass reporting data transparency request would be great if applied to MN too.

Oh yesss. That would be very useful indeed.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/03/2021 16:28

This thread is so positive! It's a pleasure to read. Well done, Glinner, Helen and everyone else who has been campaigning for women's rights today.

Cailleach1 · 09/03/2021 16:30

Yes, only state sex numbers-legal sex numbers.

Your ancestor could disappear if you had no way if knowing if your great granny became a legal man.

Thecatonthemat · 09/03/2021 16:31

Great speech from Glinner...said it all and evidence from Helen. Got the feeling that it was the detail of how , than what and to whom that interested the committee more. So how to organise the free speech notion in companies that make their own rules on acceptability .but hearing the truth of what is happening should hopefully have done some good, in conjunction with all the other stuff happening.

Cailleach1 · 09/03/2021 16:31

Absolutely, know the charge(s) against you. The vexatious checkers.

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2021 16:33

How does one buy Glinner a coffee?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/03/2021 16:35

The key thing for me is that questions are being asked now. Be it prisons, puberty blockers, social media or the census these are decisions that should be made openly and challenged openly. No debate is toxic.

FlyPassed · 09/03/2021 16:36

Just search "buy me a coffee glinner". I'm off to do the same now!

Just watched the latter part of the Committee hearing.
Thank you Helen and Graham. Your evidence was so calm and clear and coherent. I'm so sorry you've been through this awful stuff but so grateful you are standing up and speaking about it for all our sakes. You didn't have to.

JoodyBlue · 09/03/2021 16:38

I haven't caught up on the thread. But I just listened in full to Helen and Glinner in the HoL. If you read this -- absolute heros both of you. I could not hold you both in higher esteem. Points made with such articulacy and clarity. Not easy! And Glinner - that speech was amazing!! Amazing. You will always know that you stood for women. We thank you x 1000 Flowers Flowers

Leafstamp · 09/03/2021 16:38

Glinner's statement:

grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/full-text-of-my-house-of-lords-statement

testingmitb · 09/03/2021 16:39

Just heard his statement. Very clear and necessary.

Xpectations · 09/03/2021 16:39

Got the feeling that the Committee weren’t listening to Graham so well, but hopefully able to take on board his points coupled with Helen’s.
The issue about whether they’re private companies vs public space is well-evidenced by Glinner and Helen that, as bannings (to the point of character defamation, I think) can you follow you around from one platform to the next, there should be an understanding that social media as a whole, is a public sphere.
I’m unsure as to whether they understood the arbitrary nature of Ts&Cs and their lack of consistent application.

gardenbird48 · 09/03/2021 16:40

So mimmy has archived the old incorrect guidance and is encouraging her followers (which seem to be mostly born male) to fill in the Sex question in the way they see fit.

If they are hiding their trans identity (which seems to be the preferred option) - there will be fewer resources allocated for trans people (and more for women, with an inexplicable reduction in percentage birth rate due to some of the women not having the body type to enable gestation).

I don’t understand why they think this is a good idea. Flowers for Hamster - this must be so frustrating to watch as a trans person who understands the challenges this will create.

MRB2 · 09/03/2021 16:42

Thank you Helen, thank you Glinner.Thank you for fighting so hard for us all.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/03/2021 16:43

It's bonkers. If you assume the arguments about lack of trans healthcare etc were in good faith, they would want to get the number and sex if trans people recorded so they can campaign using that data.

(I realise this falls down on the "good faith" part)

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 09/03/2021 16:43

#GrahamLinehanIsABigot now trending on Twitter. Evidently someone is really rattled by this guy.

Needless to say there are no cogent arguments as to why they think he's a bigot.

highame · 09/03/2021 16:44

Hoping Glinner comes and posts his full statement. Have an e-mail of it, but he deserves to post himself Flowers

MichelleofzeResistance · 09/03/2021 16:44

There will inevitably be people who will do what they want regardless. The main point was not to confuse the rest of the population in the process. Or discreetly make sex an umbrella or social term in public documents without this being legally and openly decided by the HoC and HoL doing the job the tax payers pay them to do.
