Oh, that is good news. I hope they prepare thoroughly.

Impatiens · 03/03/2021 19:39

Excellent news. Do you know how people are selected to give evidence?

Mollyollydolly · 03/03/2021 19:40

Looking forward to it. Helen's ban was outrageous, be interesting to see anyone try and justify that.

DuLallie · 03/03/2021 20:00

Excellent. This is so important.

Members of the Select Committee usually select people to give evidence, so I'm assuming someone on the Communications & Digital Committee.

It does feel a bit like a worm is tipping over a turning point.

ChattyLion · 03/03/2021 20:17

Excellent!

Impatiens · 03/03/2021 20:21

Thanks TheRabbit

Scout2016 · 03/03/2021 20:31

Blimey Riley.
Is this something that we can watch, it says public?
Bet they didn't see this coming when they decided to get stuck in. Good on them both.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 03/03/2021 20:37

Just imaging what your average non-social media obsessed individual might make of an exchange between an MP & Helen along the lines of:

Q: What did you do to merit a Twitter ban Helen?

A: Just asked men on the internet if they believe that male sexed people should have the right to shower and undress in communal changing rooms with teenage girls.

Bbc Parliament I think?

Mollyollydolly · 03/03/2021 21:11

Glinner said it would be on the Parliament Channel.

334bu · 03/03/2021 21:14

Helen's exclusion was totally outrageous.

Scout2016 · 03/03/2021 21:17

Thanks Molly and Xanthangum. Not listened to today's mess we are in yet.
Helen's ace, I have faith in her.

Mollyollydolly · 03/03/2021 21:17

I hope they call someone from Twitter and ask them to explain Helen being banned. As you say, totally outrageous.

SunsetBeetch · 03/03/2021 21:25

Oooh

Is it a permanent ban? Shock
Manderleyagain · 04/03/2021 11:26

It is v good that Helen is being called, her question really sums up the issue & the fact she was banned should really bring it home. I don't know what she was finally banned for, but her tone on twitter was always very straightforward & she was not personal. I think it was the abstract/policy nature of the question that made it threatening to some. It illustrates the problem with making it impossible to discuss matters if principle & policy.

Maybe Graham will draw out how he fell foul of a particular group who seem to have undue influence in tech - He really was targeted by the anime lot and gamer types. He was the only big name account on the liberal/left speaking about this, and that's why they took him down. I don't think he should have been banned, but then I'm more permissive than most on what ppl should be allowed to say. I am a bit worried. Some of his twittering picked on individuals, lead to pile ons, and focussed on appearance. I'm sure some of the committee will agree with his suspension.

Well hopefully their evidence will draw out the important issues, and make the committee see the full picture. I wonder who is giving evidence in other sessions.

RoyalCorgi · 04/03/2021 11:37

Glinner did an extraordinary list of women who have been banned from Twitter for the most innocuous reasons:

grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/silence-woman

I hope he reads it out on Tuesday.

The list doesn't even mention the always-polite Jane Harris, who was banned for tweeting the comment "assigned male at birth" with an eye-rolling gif.

It does feel a bit like it, I really hope so.

Although I was a bit confused by possible mixed metaphors there?! Grin

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 04/03/2021 11:49

I have a lot of respect for Glinner. More power to him.

I'd really hope that an inquiry into Freedom of Expression Online would at least ask to speak to Twitter 🤞

Joanna Cherry taking them to task at the Human Rights Committee last year was joyful. parliamentlive.tv/event/index/0364bfc3-5adc-4aef-99bd-48c68daacc38?in=15%3A27%3A30&out=15%3A50%3A30&fbclid=IwAR3_rUOxRigL0LFeRvvF-0wvu3fgZ1RkhEPZNxJROLnNk86Jt8EIPIXu7d8
