That is appalling Angry
I remember her speech on toilet provision, it was very brave and personal.

Who do these people think they are, the Mob? Disgraceful behaviour.

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 23/02/2021 16:38

That was wonderful thank you for sharing

LastRoloIsMine · 23/02/2021 16:53

I was actually moved to hear so many stand and fight for womens rights.
100 years of fighting in this country and we still have to do it.

Women matter.
Women are not birthers, menstruation, cervix havers or chest feeders. Our rights are not up for debate.

Mystraightenersarebroken · 23/02/2021 17:10

Working my way through the list of speakers, listening to them and sending thank you emails. Already had personal responses from Lord Hunt and Baroness Grey-Thompson.

MaMaLa321 · 23/02/2021 17:21

I especially enjoyed Lord Hunt. It was very useful that he took pains to point out that this level of policy capture has happened under a Conservative government. I despise Labour for it's approach, but he made a very important point.

Dalyesque · 23/02/2021 17:40

Has the other thread on baroness Noakes beenpulled for some reason?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 23/02/2021 17:46

@oldwomanwhoruns

Lord Winston, speaking a bit later in the debate (thx to Kelly-Jay for putting on youtube):

i know, we're just women and we get all emotional about this stuff. But I was in tears listening to this.

Lord Winston's speech brought me to tears. Having had a miscarriage very recently it was the words "I don't feel a proper woman." very much resonated. I've said those exact words to my DH, I felt a failure that I couldn't keep my baby alive.

Woman means something. It's what we are. I'm sick of being told we have to budge over, be kind or accommodating. I find it insulting.

AllDoneIn · 23/02/2021 17:59

Wonderful speech.

malloo · 23/02/2021 18:15

That's cheered me up :)

CookEatRepeat · 23/02/2021 18:24

Wonderful. Those speeches do give hope don't they.

Datun · 23/02/2021 18:48

@CookEatRepeat

Wonderful. Those speeches do give hope don't they.
They really do.

There are a whole bunch of adults, in positions of considerable power, who have allowed some common sense to explode all over The House.

BettyFilous · 23/02/2021 20:05

Those speeches were wonderful. Thank you everyone for posting links.

showmethegin · 23/02/2021 23:14

I said the same @BaronessWrongCrowd. I am so sorry for your loss Thanks I was GC before but after my most recent miscarriage, which was horrifically traumatic I am even more certain. No man has ever or will ever have to go through what I and women everyday go through. It felt almost primal.

I will fight for women always and make no apologies for it

Rupertbeartrousers · 24/02/2021 00:08

What amazing, compassionate speeches Daffodil

DdraigGoch · 24/02/2021 04:51

@MaudTheInvincible

I'm not usually a fan of the HoL, but right now seeing the advantages of having a independent, experienced, un-sackable second house.

Yes. I'm having to have a rethink on the value of the HoL too.

Yes, the House of Lords is there to provide a sensible voice with (in theory) no vested interests to revise laws for the benefit of the national interest while the occupants of the Commons chase around after the latest Twitter fad. This is why reform for its own sake is best discouraged, it can lead to unintended consequences.
showmethegin · 26/02/2021 14:23

I wrote an email to Lord Hunt and received a response in about an hour! Amazing. I am so pleased people are standing up for women and will make a point of writing to all those that did.

SmallPug · 26/02/2021 15:36

Likewise, I emailed quite a lot of those who spoke up yesterday and have already had 3 lovely replies.

Emails are [email protected] and I am sure they appreciate hearing from us.

FrancesGumm · 03/03/2021 07:06

I watched them all - fantastic speeches.

I went out and bought thank you cards and sent them off to them all - first time I’ve done that but I was very moved.

FindTheTruth · 03/03/2021 07:18

I'm a lesbian and from the day 14 years ago, when I saw a thriving women's organisation destroyed by the demands of a single angry transwoman who demanded total capitulation, I've been trying to warn everyone about what's happening. I've spent the last decade shedding friends who agree with me in private but feel obliged to denounce me as a heretic in public

Thanks for sharing this Shed. They mentioned 'review of policymaking' in the speeches, and I really hope this happens. Calling lesbians hateful for being lesbians and wanting lesbian only spaces, is lesbophobic.

The whole private/public thing is a massive thing - my guess is what? 95% too scared to speak out? I think most people are reasonable and have empathy. but this authoritarian version of queer theory masquerading as LGBT hurts LGB people and T friends who dare to challenge the orthodoxy.
