Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Womb Havers, menstraters but what about women trans?

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 20:50

So there has been slot of debate and upset about those terms in medical journals. I don't want any trans bashing I just honestly want to know what the trans women/non binary equivalent is. Like men need prostate checks and checking their scrotom etc.

Sorry not journals I meant pamphlets websites, tampons. If you have to use a condom during sex but are a trans women has it been changed like menstraters?

Mostly, men get to keep their sex- based language.

NecessaryScene1 · 08/02/2021 20:59

Not sure it's ever allowed to name them like that - saw something on Ovarit where they were discussing someone being told off on Reddit's r/ActualLesbians for trying to describe them as "penis people".

I think transwomen find it offensive to be talked about like that. Confused

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:12

I've tried googling but I'm not finding anything. I honestly mean this in the nicest way if their going to change medical language for people born female they have to change male.

I know woman have postrates too but their smaller and very rarely a issue but is obviously something that has to be checked in a male born body. What would they put on the phamlets? Why is female biology terms okay but male related ones not?

Ah. Please allow me to introduce the patriarchy. Men are what men say they are. Women are what men say they are.

Because it is about oppression of women. So no need to erase men. It isnt on the agenda.
Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:17

Also there's womxn is there mxn?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 08/02/2021 21:20

Because women have to "be kind" which means rolling over and doing what the men tell us to do/be called what the men want to call us.

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:21

Well should feminists be fighting for equality on this? Condoms should be labeled for sperminaters, prostate people, penis Havers and scrotom persons?

OP posts:
Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:23

It is being kind. How could it not be kind to make sure that all have the right to these labels too!

OP posts:
SciFiScream · 08/02/2021 21:25

This feels like the sort of thread that would have lots of answers rife for being screen-shot.

Have I become hopelessly cynical?

StanfordPines · 08/02/2021 21:26

I have no problem with period products being labelled as ‘for people who menstruate’ for example. Or ‘we do this test on people who have a cervix’.
It’s the cervix havers and menstruators I hate. It’s so othering.

And you see right. It’s never ‘people who have prostates’ or ‘people who have penises’.

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:30

@StanfordPines If were going to live with different terminology with medical things I would rather it was fair and concise. Menstraters, cervix Havers has almost been baiting a way to force hate on the terms their unpleasant and unnecessary. Even if you did both women and people who menstrate. Women/people with cervix

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:34

@scifiscream if people want to screen shot people talking about having equal rights especially when involving medical needs then feel free. I think our society needs to change and at this early start of course it's not going to be right there extreme people on both sides.

OP - I was told (on one of my early forays into FWR) that it was rude to @ people (in FWR only was the implication)

I've never done it since.

I wonder if anyone else can confirm or deny this?

Just in case you are another newbie.

(Hopefully other posters will confirm or deny - maybe I just got the wrong message)

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 21:50

I'm sorry I didn't know I couldn't @ happy not to. I mostly just read the fiminist boards sometimes but after thinking about this earlier and looking everywhere I thought I would ask about it.

Oh wow just googled FWR Mumsnet 😑 it is not painted in a good light

Interesting question.

One very prominent and internationally known trans rights activist, J. Yaniv, had this to say last year-

^Calling trans women "this person with a prostate" is rude and offensive. Not myself, nor @nicespurling
should take that kind of harassment. Completely disgraceful. #LGBTQ2 #LGBTQ^

I have no problem with period products being labelled as ‘for people who menstruate’ for example. Or ‘we do this test on people who have a cervix’.

The problem with ‘people who have a cervix’ is that it depends on knowing what it is & whether you’ve got one, so women with learning disabilities or who aren’t fluent in English, for instance, can easily slip through the cracks.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 08/02/2021 22:51

But thats my point. Women are expected to be kind and accept being called menstruators, or cervix havers.

Men aren't expected to be kind and accept being called prostate owners. Or Penis havers. Because they are men and should be known as such.

Callingallmajortoms · 08/02/2021 22:55

But I refering to genetically male health should have these labels, making sure that it's equal.

Very interesting. I mentioned the extremes does she also against people who menstrate or just prostate people?

So it would have to include and women, I guess most medically labeled stuff is a mouthful anyway.

Well, Jessica was in favour of "people who bleed" ten days before that. Confused The post quoted from.Tampax is one that went viral because so many women hated it, and found it dehumanising. But Jessica
