The journalist compares feminist spaces like Lipstick Alley, Ovarit, and Mumsnet to right wing communities like incels and the Donald. The article is disappointing because they get so many basic things wrong. In the very first paragraph they equate 'radical' feminism with extremism, and talk about a woman becoming 'further radicalised'. They say that gender critical feminists believe 'gender is fixed' when that's not what gender critical feminists believe at all. And the article tells the lie that radical feminists dox, harass and bully trans women when we do nothing of the sort. It's just frustrating to have so many lies and misconceptions spread about online feminist communities.

Having a first baby is a bit like a sparrow flying into a glass door. It’s often the first time we really feel the Invisible boundaries that the patriarchy has built for us.

100% agreed, PlantMam although in my case it was miscarriage that radicalised me, a horrible, gut-wrenching experience that helped me to understand fully just how much of female biology is erased from mainstream, patriarchal society. We are supposed to carry this silent biological burden, experience these freakish unsettling events that put us at war with our own bodies - and then shut up about it so the men don't get frightened, alarmed that maybe their male world of normal is not normal at all.

The trans issue is just a new, convenient way for men to shut women up and stop us from talking about our bodies - this time in the name of kindness to others, a supremely toxic twist on the usual patriarchal tactics.

Dropping by to add this - A series of emails has been published, adding this to the thread in case it's useful:

I just really like the name "Overit" Grin

Things are bleak here, but a bit less so since the Keira Bell case. Hats off to her!

I was going to re-up my Atlantic subscription, but instead I headed to Mumsnet. The last thing we need is more such drivel.

It appears this article has set a new record for bad faith representation - and there have been some doozies in the past.

It's kind of great, because it does expose exactly how low the tactics of the other side are, drawing in more people who were previously on the fence, like one of the PPs.

Other content creators are grateful too - eg Katie Herzog who gets a whole podcast episode out of it:

Anyway, this article is incredibly bad and it reads like something out of PinkNews rather than the Atlantic. It’s also great fodder for the pod so a big THANK YOU to the author and to @TheAtlantic for your service.

Téa Smith exploded today - after two days of "let's try and moderate things, and try to actually come up with workable policy answers, and I'm going to call out GC bad behaviour" she's just done over an hour of swearing at the author and questioning her relationship to her parents Grin

I love Karen so much. Her voice, her sense of humour. She is so great.

Another video! She's really gunning for this article. I think this is her best yet.

Ohh, thank you everyone Blush Grin

This IS a very good place and am happy to have found it.

I don't think I've become more radicalized than I was pre-motherhood (I've always considered myself a kind of socialist feminist): what motherhood has done for me is make me fall from my cloudy ivory tower, where I was very happy and detached from reality, haha! I mean, I had read all the theory and everything... and I'm embarrassed to admit that I was prejudiced against motherhood, for "feminist" reasons (I guess you know where I come from).

I'm extremely happy to have passed that phase, though (I was young and naive Wink) and motherhood is really like flying into a glass door (that was a great image!).

Anyway, this is a great sister-tribe and I'm very happy to be a part of it now!

(I'm not a native english speaker, by the way, so there WILL be errors, haha!)

"It's only women! Who gives a shit!"

I love her...I hope she never stops making videos.

ChattyLion · 11/12/2020 20:37

Thank you for the thread and the link to you’re kiddin’ right? over on YouTube- she’s had videos taken down already so someone’s clearly worried that she’s gathering an audience.. I only just discovered her videos from this thread, and so far so excellent! Smile

Always great to find a new inspirational woman to listen to.

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 11/12/2020 23:19

Karen is magnificent

PlantMam · 11/12/2020 23:35

@Triggerpod should get Karen on!

Their Posie/Kellie episode is up to 800k views, I suspect Karen would be similarly popular!
