Proposed legislation in Victoria re 'conversion therapy ' - absolutely gutted

While I'm rejoicing this week about the outcome of the Keira Bell case, it seems that in Victoria we're determined to go in the opposite direction.
This terrifying bill is being proposed:
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/24/victoria-to-ban-abhorrent-practice-of-gay-or-gender-conversion-therapy
Under the legislation, not affirming a child's gender identity, or giving them 'conversion therapy' ( which we know includes counselling) would actually be considered domestic violence. I wish I was making this up. Medical practitioners will also not be able to offer 'conversion therapy '. So basically children and teenagers will be forced down the route of puberty blockers, cross sex hormones etc and parents will have no options at all. Taking children overseas or interstate for treatment is covered under this bill and likewise criminalised.
Daniel Andrew's government has form in this area (See Safe Schools program) but this really takes the cake. The opposition is currently coming from religious groups due to the bill's apparent policing of prayer, but I cannot see any discussion of the above points as being of concern.
I've written to my MP but he's Labour so basically no chance. Is there anything else I can do?

Bluebell, that's horrendous. I just hope Keira's case triggers a rush by canny lawyers offering no-win-no-fee services to survivors.

Cripes.
"The Victorian government will introduce legislation to outlaw conversion “therapy” seeking to change someone’s sexuality or gender identity, with fines of close to $10,000 or up to 10 years in jail."

Take it up with the Australian Medical Association Victoria. The AMA Queensland challenged this and it was subtly changed to allow exploration of reasons I think. No doctors’ organisation wants to see doctors criminalised for what we now know is appropriate care.

Thanks @NotBadConsidering, didn't think of that. Will try them.

This was another thread this week with a youtube that covered part of this. The first 10m are specifically on what’s been happening in Aus (it’s not actually on sport)

It is another crappy law from Dan Andrew’s and Jill Hennessey. See #LetUsSpeak for another example.

Baby and bath water come to mind.

Similar legislation exists in the ACT already.

Any parent of an ROGD kid who can move to NSW should. We seem to be a holdout.

It's crazy that Vic are going ahead with this given the outcome of Keira's case.

The whole thing is worth watching. I think there's some information in the show on where to find support and guidance on these matters if you're in Australia.

Scary stuff. Anything your sisters abroad can do to support?

Similarly scary measures in other countries recently, e.g. this one in Norway las week:

mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN2852DL?__twitter_impression=true

"Norway's parliament outlawed hate speech against transgender people on Tuesday, expanding its penal code which has protected gay and lesbian people since 1981.

People found guilty of hate speech face a fine or up to a year in jail for private remarks, and a maximum of three years in jail for public comments, according to the penal code."

Another great example of why tagging the T onto LGB was a really bad idea.
