David Bell, Tavi whistleblower

rogdmum · 01/12/2020 14:52

Dr David Bell, who compiled the original whistleblowing report at GIDS, is now subject to legal proceedings by the Tavistock, his employers.

I know it’s been a fantastic day but if anyone has yet another spare shovel, I’m sure Dr Bell would appreciate it.

I attended a seminar at the Scottish Parliament last Feb re gender dysphoria in children and adolescents where he was a speaker. He was marvellous.

It's a new budget month and so a nice sum for gardening is available! Thanks for the heads up.

Are they still being sued by their safeguarding lead, or is that the one that was dropped because Keira's covered it?

@yourhairiswinterfire

Are they still being sued by their safeguarding lead, or is that the one that was dropped because Keira's covered it?

Sonia Appleby’s case has been listed for summer 2021.

I’m sure she’d appreciate some digging.

(Your posts have had me air punching and cackling today, sometimes simultaneously 😆)

Thank you Betty.

That's good news then! Happy to get in the garden.

(I have been banging on a bit today 😄. Just really chuffing relieved that sanity prevailed. So proud of Keira.)

Surely any legal action they were pursuing against him will be stopped after today Shock

Surely they can't say "we would have been able to continue experimenting on children without consent for much longer ifit wasn't for you".

What kind of case is it? What are they saying he did, breach of contract or something? Sounds very odd. They've surely got bigger things to worry about now.

I've dug the garden 💰

I don’t know if it might be around his independent speaking? He was putting an incredible amount of emphasis on the fact that he was not speaking on behalf of the Portman Clinic when in Edinburgh - so much that I thought it oddly strong.

I could be way off base though

In Julie Bindell's piece in the Spectator she mentions David Bell:

Last year it was reported that one of the Tavistock foundation’s governors resigneded after accusing GIDS of dismissing a damning internal report which said that the service was ‘not fit for purpose.’ A number of parents had accused the service of fast-tracking young people into a transgender identity, and there were accusations – including by Dr David Bell, who had written the report in his capacity as then staff governor – that the service was failing to fully consider psychological and social factors in a young person’s background, such as bereavement or autism, which might have an influence on their decision to transition.^

It was also revealed thatat
35 psychologists had resigned from GIDS in the space of three years, with many concerned about the service ‘over-diagnosing’ young people with gender dysphoria.^

^^ This, added to the text on his crowdjustice page, makes me think the Tavi are trying to make him stfu about their practises.

This is what the Tavistock are telling their staff to think about the judgment...

"As you may know, or have seen in the media today, we have now had a judgment in the judicial review the Trust and its partners have been facing in respect of treatment with puberty blockers.

Though the ruling is clear that the practice of the Trust is not unlawful, we are clearly disappointed by today’s judgment and we understand that the outcome is likely to cause anxiety for patients and their families. Our first duty is to our patients, particularly those currently receiving hormone blocking treatment. We have been carefully planning how we can support them as well as possible.

If you are interested in knowing more, we have a statement on the GIDS website explaining where we are and next steps and trying to answer as many questions as possible in a Q&A. We will be updating this when we have further information later today or in the coming days.

Read more information on the GIDS website:
gids.nhs.uk/information-following-judicial-review-judgment-december-2020

It is important to remember that GIDS is largely a psycho-social service providing extensive support to children and young people facing issues relating to the development of their gender identity. We offer a safe and supportive environment to explore these issues. Only a minority of those referred to the service go on to access a physical intervention pathway.

At this time more than ever, it is important that we all pull together and support one another. Please be particularly kind to our GIDS colleagues and respectful of the work they have done, and the care that they will continue to offer."

Searched, found the garden and have had a dig around.

However, I didn’t read the rest of this thread and left a tip, why shouldn’t I be doing that?

Can't go out to celebrate Keira's historic win tonight, so I've sent what I would have spent to David instead. If you're reading this, David, we're sending you love and thanks and best of luck.

The site behaved very poorly with regards to Allison Bailey's legal fundraising. They lost many MNer's goodwill because of it (me included).

Hope I'm not speaking to the converted but this isn't a case for the courts. He has needed legal advice because of a disciplinary. I imagine there are some points of real contention in relation to whistle-blowers.

Yesterday only a couple of hundred, now £3.2k Grin

Hope Kiera & Mrs A's win helps Dr Bell
