The turning tide

SNP internal party election for their NEC.

The women's convener Rhiannon Spear (supports GRA reform, patronises women in a head tilt way about being misinformed or misled by shadowy online bots) has been ousted from her role by the SNP Women's pledge organiser Caroline McAllister.

Just savour that for a while 😎

Alyn Smith MP (whose ex partner posted a private message online from Joanna Cherry to Smith asking him to 'have a word' with his (now ex) partner to stop the abuse & harassment she was being subjected to) has also lost his role as policy development convener.

While this is Scottish politics, and a bit niche in terms of internal NEC set up, this is quite a significant shift & a concrete representation of the unpopularity of what those 2 people represented.

So here's to turning tides 🥂

Yes, it's been a long time coming. Hopefully the newly elected NEC can re-right the ship.

If you want to see some real sky-is-falling rhetoric over the results, check out the Twitter accounts for YSI and Out For Indy. Others are already dummy-throwing about leaving for the Greens.

Snort.

Love it.

Very pleased to see Fiona Robertson out from the Equalities Convener too, and the wonderful pro-women Lynne Anderson in instead.

This is very good news.

Do we know yet what the 6 hour delay was all about?

That's great news, thanks for sharing. Do you know if the change in roles came about because of unacceptable behaviour, or if there's growing dissatisfaction with some of the views being expressed?

SunsetBeetch · 01/12/2020 06:45

Fabulous news!

SunsetBeetch · 01/12/2020 06:53

Had to go on the hell site and see what people were saying

And..."Congratulations Joanna" is trending Grin

That is good news. I’ve been gobsmacked at how bad it has been, but fingers crossed you’re right and the tide is turning.

SunsetBeetch · 01/12/2020 06:59

Had to laugh. Scottish people have such a way with words.

Dinnae be a fanny, Heather 🤣

Amazing from a GC position, but also extraordinary for SNP watchers. Feels like this issue has become a proxy war between the Salmondites and Sturgeonites. If the wokesters leave she will be seriously weakened and Salmond is not as popular as she is with the electorate. When they are in theory cruising to another election victory plus independence polls shifting finally their direction it is quite something to collapse under factionalism. Who would have guessed 10 years ago it would be women's rights that would have triggered this? And that the GC side would be supporters of a man like Salmond?

highame · 01/12/2020 07:45

This is the result of these quiet, contained, intelligent, centrist thinkers who act for women Star. There are more of them when it really counts.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/12/2020 07:48

I'm genuinely excited by this. It's a good indication of what people think when they are aware of what is going on.

Genuinely delighted to wake up to this. Good sense has prevailed. Now, if only some Labour Party members would consider (re)joining the Greens...

thereplycamefromanchorage · 01/12/2020 08:21

Woah, some good news!

teawamutu · 01/12/2020 08:29

Oh my life, this is amazing. A sign, perhaps, that the rank and file SNP are waking up to the wokey takeover and don't like it?

SNP top brass utterly ignored the public - will they listen to their membership?

OvaHere · 01/12/2020 08:38

Great news. Well done Scotland. Maybe common sense will start to prevail at last.

PearPickingPorky · 01/12/2020 09:45

I wonder how many of the current cabinet who seem hell-bent on pushing identity politics are doing it because they felt they had to because of the control the NEC had, and now that the new (old) guard are back in, they might do a 180.

Surely, some of the MSPs can see the problems this has been causing, and would cause, to women, and just needed a route out of the corner they felt backed into?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/12/2020 09:49

Watching from England, this is very encouraging. Well done to the Scots!

Aesopfable · 01/12/2020 09:50

I am in two minds. If they carried on going off the track then there was a chance they could have lost the next election. Nicola may be good at talking the talk but the NHS and Education are a mess, her management of Covid may have looked more polished but is no different from the rest of the uk. Independence will just drive Scotland into the ground economically. I suspect they still think oil is going to be their saviour but they have ignored the state of the oil industry since the last referendum (because it sits outside the central belt).

Aesopfable · 01/12/2020 09:51

And I am far from convinced that if they win the next election they won’t continue to pursue their anti-women policies.

RozWatching · 01/12/2020 09:57

Fiona Robertson too? Amazing!

MerchedCymru · 01/12/2020 09:58

Watching from Wales and hugely cheered by this shift back to sanity.

Wonder if the recent attacks on For Women Scot are a sign of the anger and desperation of the SNP misogynists as they began to register that maybe, just maybe, the tide was turning.

Either way this is such good news for women in Scotland.

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2020 10:08

Yes, heartening. Bit dismayed at how 'joining the greens' seems to be the euphemism for jumping in the woke bin.

I used to like the greens.

BlackForestCake · 01/12/2020 12:45

I used to like the Greens as well, but there is no way on earth I would vote for their misogynist, homophobic authoritarianism now.
