I have no words, what in the actual hell? Booze yes, sanitary pads no? 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:

And loo roll, tissues ... hoe about soap and hand gel? If their 'logic' is that supermarkets shouldn't sell items normally also available from Boots etc , as I can't imagine what else it was.

So we have to increase the risk to ourselves and others and go to two shops? Shock

They've really thought this through haven't they?!

fancyginglass · 26/10/2020 12:11

OP YADBU - of course sanitary products are not required. Do you not have any old rags you can rip up instead? Or better still I'm sure you could create a tent out the back and sit on straw for a week. I think you need to think outside the box - we are all living in challenging times Grin

WitchesSpelleas · 26/10/2020 12:15

Photo shows toothbrushes and toothpaste blocked off Confused.

Admittedly you probably wouldn't die if you failed to brush your teeth for two weeks, but it doesn't sound like a very good idea.

Period products - lost for words! Are they expecting women to go back to pre-20th Century times and put an old rag in their pants?

ancientgran · 26/10/2020 12:15

The big fault in the Welsh Governments plan seems to have been expecting people to use commonsense. Obviously Tesco need a bit of support with this.

Back in the national lockdown amazon were selling packets of pads for up to 80 quid a go.

Restrictions and shortages must have been really profitable for sellers on amazon akd ebay.

This is why its all such bull shit. If a shop is open you should he free to buy whatever it sells. Who are they to decide whats essential or not .

People should not he given this kind of power over others it never ends well. It gets abused and people get exploited.

The English don't half get their knickers in a twist when the Welsh go their own way...I'd be more concerned with the confusion and incompetence if the UK Govt and their approach in England if I were you.
Can't you see this is is a case of 'quick, look over there' by a govt who recently voted to deny poor kids food, while funnily enough the Senedd voted to ensure that no child should go hungry in Cymru. The UK Govt is massively letting the English down...but it's more important to point at the Welsh (or the Scots or the N Irish) and decry what we do...nothing ever changes.

cologne4711 · 26/10/2020 12:23

While I think Drakeford and elements of the Welsh government are rather stupid, I would not have believed for a minute that this is true and Tesco have let loose a (male?) 6th form student on their Twitter feed. Mind you, there was that thread on here a few months ago about a female pharmacists telling someone a pregnancy test wasn't essential!

I do wish these supermarkets would pay a bit more for some sensible employees in HQ roles. And for the umpteenth time, train their frontline staff better.

ancientgran · 26/10/2020 12:24

Polyperson I'm in England and wish we had a more effective govt. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, just hanging my head in shame at the shambles we are living through.

How does this have anything to do with England or the English? Not sure how you can tell whether a poster is English or not but 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you'll find that most people living in England can read newspapers and social media themselves and don't need the Westminster government to tell them what to read. As far am I aware the Westminster government has made no comment about the Welsh situation at all.

It has nothing to do with the free school meals issue.

and I said this on the other thread but here it is again, in case you don't know:

Lots of people (gasp) live in England who are not English.

Lots of people (gasp again) live in Wales who are not Welsh.

And there are lots of mixed combinations.

You're saying that the UK government has made up/jumped on a story about Tesco not selling sanitary products and spread it on SM to hide their own mishandlingof the pandemic?
TheRealMrsGrissom · 26/10/2020 12:38

Perhaps this was a ploy by a Tesco employee to show how ludicrous the non-essential ban is - bar off the sanitary products and watch the story fly around the media.

Raza obviously didn’t read the tweet fully and just sends the stock reply he’s been told to. It does make Tesco look stupid but ultimately highlights the Welsh Government ban on essentials.

Fairyliz · 26/10/2020 12:49

Having worked for over 40 years in both the public and private sectors this just confirms what I have always thought. At least 80% of the population is incredibly dim/incompetent/lazy and that runs through all levels from the lowest paid to the highest management.
I think Covid has exposed how badly run most organisations are and if they do well it’s generally down to luck/timing rather than any brilliance.

GabsAlot · 26/10/2020 12:54

twitter is going mad over this and no its nothing to do with distracting from the tories

its about basic common sense

ODFOx · 26/10/2020 13:09

There was an essential aisle
Blocked off in one store due to a break in. Nothing to see here. Nothing to do with COVID restrictions at all.

ProfessorSlocombe · 26/10/2020 13:11

Even with my level of cynicism, I have to cry "foul" Smile

However, 50% of any population are of below average intelligence.

Queenoftheashes · 26/10/2020 13:17

Apparently some guy tried to go shopping in his pants and a face masks as “clothes are non essential”

SummerHouse · 26/10/2020 13:31

Raza is in the wrong job in my opinion. You need to be socially aware and have attention to detail. At all times. If not, one day you could make a monumental fuck up that's national news.

Mamimawr · 26/10/2020 13:53

Tesco made a mistake and they've apologised.

Aesopfable · 26/10/2020 14:03

@Mamimawr

Tesco made a mistake and they've apologised.
And... are they going consider why this has happened?
DreadPirateLuna · 26/10/2020 14:14

It was one store with one incompetent manager (or one manager making a clumsy political point). Infuriating for the women shopping at that store, but hardly evidence of a nationwide policy.

DreadPirateLuna · 26/10/2020 14:18

I do have some issues with the arbitrary division of essential versus non-essential items (anyone who thinks buying children's underwear is non-urgent has never had a child who's peed herself while out). But this particular example can't be pinned on either the Welsh govt or Tesco main office.
