I have no words, what in the actual hell? Booze yes, sanitary pads no? 🤦‍♀️

Tesco told by the Welsh government they can't sell sanitary pads?!

A store being stupid I guess. I bought tampons in tesco yesterday in Wales. The Welsh gov has certainly not told them not to sell them, as identified by tesco who obviously didn't read it.

I'd refuse to leave until I'd purchased them if the shop were being that ridiculous.

PurpleHoodie · 26/10/2020 10:57

Victoria Derbyshire has tweeted.

Any MNetters in Wales able to confirm if their local Tesco is still carrying out this nonsense?

It'll spread to the rest of the UK if not challenged.

I'm wondering if someone did this deliberately as a dig at the welsh government's rules. How the hell it helps a closed electrical goods shop to have customers replace their kettle from amazon rather than Asda eludes me.

Hardbackwriter · 26/10/2020 11:00

Oh no, wait, that was me being an idiot and misreading - baby bottles are one of the exceptions Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 26/10/2020 11:00

@Hardbackwriter

Did anyone else see the list of products listed as essential and non in the replies? Apparently baby bottles are non-essential?!
They seem to be in the exceptions list. But I'm sure there are other essential baby products that have been missed from that.
MJMG2015 · 26/10/2020 11:00

@Mummyoflittledragon

Phew I see it was a mistake. But highly highly embarrassing for Tesco to have done this in the first instance. Sounds as if a man took the decision as obviously we can just wait until we go the loo instead of lazily bleeding in our underwear.
Well, I read in here once that a posters DH, when they were first intimate, questioned why she had STILL had her period as he thought you went to the toilets& 'had a period' like you 'have a poo' and that was that until the next time.

At least it's all a mistake (admittedly a pretty big one), but not an actual policy.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/10/2020 11:01

Surely that photo is showing baby bottles are on the list of exceptions to the general rule that baby products are non essential?

Just wash out a couple of old beer bottles. Problem solved
StealthPolarBear · 26/10/2020 11:02

Oh just seen your correction, oops :o

Hardbackwriter · 26/10/2020 11:02

Yes, sorry, my silly mistake - I'll ask MN to delete so it doesn't derail or confuse

ErrolTheDragon · 26/10/2020 11:03

Computers & accessories, stationery are 'non essential' ... really? With everyone who can WFH? Confused

GabsAlot · 26/10/2020 11:05

oh dear tesco not good-if its in an(dont get me started) aisle of non essentials it needs to be moved

StealthPolarBear · 26/10/2020 11:06

Very good point errol. Maybe we're meant to shoot birds and make quill pens to write with?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/10/2020 11:11

Are they also restricting toothpaste as well? Great plan while dentists are not open Hmm

They really have not thought all this through have they.

loobyloo1234 · 26/10/2020 11:11

There are photos posted under that thread now of these being blocked off by Tesco so she wasn't lying. I cannot comprehend who keeps making these decisions. Obv I'm assuming the Government didnt agree to this but even to block off toothpaste and so on (also in the photos), did they agree to that?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/10/2020 11:12

Maybe the Welsh are expected to make their own, waste not want now eh.

fromdownwest · 26/10/2020 11:15

I live in in Wales and I have seen first hand, the draconian and quite frankly terryfying level of control that this incompetent man is imposing on the people of Wales.

Work from home due to this mandatory fire break, however, you are unable to buy printer ink or paper from Tesco.

Cold snap coming - I can go to Tesco and buy 14 litres of Vodka, a potatoe, some coconut milk and a kg 12 pack of Coca- Cola, however, I can not buy a DUVET!!

This man has lost the plot, and I hope people remeber this come April.

None if it makes sense. Tesco blame the Welsh government, the Welsh government blame tesco. Anyone with an ounce if common sense would double check on the list /instructions. I mean how can you have the intelligence to run a whole store something i dont have the brains to do and not know how essential sanitary products are i mean surely they all have mothers?

Covid seems to have been an extremely convenient excuse to demonstrate just what you are realky like as a person and how much contempt you have for people.

Get out. Just quit managing a store. Customers suck. They are rude, obnoxious , downright abusive at times , they lie, steal, and will rip you off in a heartbeat. What separates you from them is that staff are meant to rise above. Dont engage. Just be the bigger person. If you are going to take full advantage of this situation in this way then you have no business in that job.

Welcome to a glimpse at independence.

Monkey44 · 26/10/2020 11:23

This isn't the case at all, this is down to the supermarket badly misinterpreting the rule. There are Welsh Government discussions today to resolve this and other issues that have been highlighted, mainly by supermarkets who have just not understood the request.

TableFlowerss · 26/10/2020 11:24

This has to be a wind up??????

Fucking madness if that’s true. This has to be one of the most fucked up rules I’ve EVER heard!!

Sort it out Tesco!!

MrsPeacockInTheLibrary · 26/10/2020 11:26

What about the "people who bleed" products too?!

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/10/2020 11:27

The other supermarkets don't seem to have had a problem interpreting it.

I can see how some products might need further discussion ( personally I think if a shop is open and you are allowed in then you should be able to buy what they sell) but this is pretty basic.

And on a reasonably clear list.

I dont think that tesco should get off that easily citing "confusion "
