Great article about the Mridul Wadhwa.

I don't know the timeline on the appointment, but I believe MW claimed in the film with Fox Fisher that they knew they wouldn't have been hired if people knew.

PopperUppleton · 22/10/2020 19:21

Could people really not tell? Perhaps the panel didn't like to ask, might have been afraid of accusations of racism.

Or perhaps people really really do believe that humans can actually change sex

ArabellaScott · 22/10/2020 19:37

As far as I remember MW said MW didnt even know if they would have been hired ... I think I remember doing a wee transcript of that video ... it might be here somewhere.

ArabellaScott · 22/10/2020 19:39

Interviewer: ‘Is there a personal reason for getting into this line of work?’
WADHWA: ‘staying on has beeen personal because it was pretty clear to me that I was the only transwoman in the woman’s aid movement [laughs] and I wasn’t even sure whether I would have been hired if they had known that I was trans’

@ArabellaScott

Interviewer: ‘Is there a personal reason for getting into this line of work?’ WADHWA: ‘staying on has beeen personal because it was pretty clear to me that I was the only transwoman in the woman’s aid movement [laughs] and I wasn’t even sure whether I would have been hired if they had known that I was trans’
I cannot fathom why someone would want to be in a job which they they could only obtain by duplicity and then seeing the "staying on" as some sort of triumph because they are getting one over people. Especially when the people they are talking about are some of the most vulnerable.

It's actually really disturbing and I'm increasingly horrified that rape crisis, Engender, the SNP etc can't see the level of narcissism and quite frightening disregard for the welfare of women. It reads like it was a game.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/10/2020 23:53

cannot see any reason why Mridal should not be sacked innediately, as they got this job through clear deception.

Can you imagine though? The endless Independent articles!

Legal challenge being prepared says this article today:

Oh wow, FWS are on the ball!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/10/2020 08:18

So from reading the article, TW with a GRC can legitimately stand on an AWS?

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2020 09:15

Not sure, Itsall. I think all of these issues need raised and this is great sunlight. Seems the SNP has clearly overreached here, acting as if self ID were law, when it certainly isn't.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/10/2020 09:25

This is exactly the same issue that Jennifer James has been challenging with Labour since early 2018 (I believe the court case is awaiting a hearing date still). Heather Peto was also on an AWS.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/10/2020 09:55

Does Jennifer James's challenge also cover the Jo Cox Leadership Programme, or would that need a separate case? I can't remember the details without looking them up but I think that was supposed to be used to help women get the skills and confidence to take on committee posts and leadership roles in the Labour Party, as well as increasing the number of women MPs and councillors. Competition to get onto it is presumably quite intense.

One of the first hurdles to be got over is that growing up with female socialisation can make women reluctant to sing their own praises and to put themselves forward. It can make them more self-critical than men, more likely to think 'I can do 95% of that but they won't want someone who can't do 100%, and they'll be angry if I waste their time by even enquiring'. Men, of course, are far more likely to glance at a job spec and think 'I can do some of it, I can wing the rest, let's give it a punt - after all, they'd be lucky to get me!'.

Some of the places on the Jo Cox programme have gone to candidates who didn't have the female socialisation handicap.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/10/2020 11:13

I don't know off hand, but I think it is just about AWS which are specifically covered as an EA exemption. But yes, males have taken up places meant for women.

NecessaryScene1 · 24/10/2020 08:03

But who appointed this person?

A group of people trying to prove how tolerant they were to each other? It's a symbiotic relationship - boundary-pushers and those who virtue-signal by letting boundaries be pushed.

South Park was ahead of the time here:

LOL I clipped this video from South Park. 2002. Mr Garrison trying to get fired backfired. Total prediction huh.

The more women's rights are seen to be eroded, the more radical women will become. "When sleeping women wake, mountains move". Keep going you woke politicians, you are doing more than you know for women's rights Wink
