Shower Liz Truss with cards!

Her colleague Crispin Blunt is calling for her resignation. The same guy who said yesterday he was upset she had not listened to him and his mates in the LGBT All Party Parliamentary Group who sent her a private paper on trans rights. Seems like he is a fan of making policy behind closed doors.

Here she is defending her statement in the Commons earlier today against a barrage of sniping MPs from all the main parties:

Let's shower her with cards!

Liz Truss MP
Minister for Women
Cabinet Office
1 Horse Guards Rd
Westminster
London SW1A 2HQ

Lovely idea
Thank you for the address

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 26/09/2020 21:10

I've emailed Boris, and will put a card in the post to Liz tomorrow. Thank you for the idea

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/09/2020 21:16

Great idea, thank you.

YoBeaches · 27/09/2020 08:53

Card done today x

@MilleniumHallsWalledGarden

Can I ask what you said? I want to do some emails too, not sure what to put. Need to be concise and avoid the rambling that occured in the card!
EyesOpening · 27/09/2020 09:46

I thanked her for listening to women's concerns and understanding the need for upholding single sex spaces. I said that I'd copied in the PM and my local MP so they could hear my voice and see my support of her difficult situation and also that because of it , the Tories have gained this normal Lefty's vote

justawoman · 27/09/2020 09:54

Not to discourage you, but I wouldn’t waste a pretty/expensive card on a government minister. Any correspondence from the general public (as opposed to from MPs and the great and the good) is highly unlikely to get anywhere near the minister concerned but will be seen and dealt with by the department’s correspondence team. At most it might be logged as a letter supportive of the policy, but even that information probably won’t get to her directly. As for emails, the ministers and especially the prime minister won’t ever see emails sent to that address - again it’ll be the correspondence clerks.

Most ministers and departments get literally thousands to tens of thousands of pieces of correspondence a week (and that, of course, excludes any correspondence sent to ministers in their capacity as a constituency MP) so the ministers simply can’t see it all.

Just saying. Sending nice cards to celebrities and others who’ve spoken out sounds like a great idea, but ministers are necessarily surrounded by a bureaucracy which all but ensures they’ll never see a card, nice or otherwise. It’s still worth writing to show support, but an email will do just as well. It’ll only ever be read by civil servants anyway.

highame · 27/09/2020 10:00

I think it's the outward show. Most know there stuff doesn't get read by ministers

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 27/09/2020 10:05

SirSamuelVimes

I just said I would be writing to her to give her my thanks for supporting women's rights, and that I was pleased to see our right's to single-sex spaces emphasised. I mentioned how disappointed I was to see Crispin Blunt's comments too.

I agree.
TorkTorkBam · 27/09/2020 10:06

If a stack of cards turn up in the post, the staff will tell Liz. It will be a talking point amongst her, her staff and their peers.

SirSamuelVimes · 27/09/2020 10:10

@TorkTorkBam

Exactly. I'm not expecting my one card to have an impact - but loads of cards all arriving within the space of a few days? It creates attention at least.

Also, an email is easy to send and therefore easy to disregard; we've had people on here before who work for MPs tell us that when people actually write a physical letter it can have more of an impact because they know it took more effort to do.

This exactly. It creates a buzz, let's them know there's support.
MrsGrindah · 27/09/2020 10:21

Believe me her staff will tell her. Not least because it’s highly unusual for cards to be sent. Het team will have been reading these threads too so will alert her.

They'll also have been working on it so will feel personally invested and relieved to get positive feedback
GoodyWoolf · 27/09/2020 12:57

Done! Thank you for the idea!

Roseburn · 27/09/2020 13:09

Joan McAlpine had her cards pinned all over her office and posted a photo online.

Im sure any MSP, MP or Minister would be persoanlly delighted at such a tangible show of support - even if just to show off to others in the corridor at work....

Roseburn · 27/09/2020 13:18

Here's my card.

Shower Liz Truss with cards!
howonearthdidwegethere · 27/09/2020 13:31

If you prefer, you can send the card to the House of Commons. It will be handled by her political/constituency staff then.

House of Commons
London SW1A 0AA

By and large, the people in that office will have more contact with her constituents (aka voters!).

One way or another, the arrival of lots of cards will register with her.

Glinner posted support recently for an artist called "The Famous Artist Birdy Rose" she has some lovely and pertinent cards. Might be a nice place to get cards from if you don't have any in.

TheFlyingAspidistra · 27/09/2020 15:47

What a fabulous idea. Done!

howonearthdidwegethere · 27/09/2020 16:04

(House of Commons for MPs, obviously!)

Cuntysnark · 28/09/2020 07:44

Sending my House of Commons batch today. Will peruse Birdy Rose’s merchandise for the House of Lords batch.

BovaryX · 28/09/2020 08:09

OP,
This is a good idea. Not least because many politicos in the Age of Woke operate on the basis that they are on Mount Moral Highground and can impose its edicts on the public. Liz Truss seems to have listened to the fluent objectors and dissenters and the guidelines are written in clear, unambiguous language. She has responded to a bona fide grassroots campaign. Which makes a refreshing change from implementing the demands of a niche lobby with zero public mandate.

SirSamuelVimes · 28/09/2020 11:07

Put mine in the post this morning. Will do emails later on once DD is napping. Also need to send the Baroness' email to elder dd's school regarding their SRE curriculum. Busy busy!
