Another step in BBC’s retreat from reality:

"I hope the gay community will differ."
Not IME (as above - it was at the Viaduct in the gay quarter, and went down a storm).

I think the contradictions are deliberate. This, and the examples of transwomen who make few or no attempts to transition in any physical way are political imo - it's all about queer theory and queering whatever thing they're involved in at that moment.

Lewis Carroll, the Red Queen, Humpty Dumpty and the Mad Hatter did it better.

IIRC, Mr Gay UK is often won by a very muscular man in tiny pants. It might have been more interesting to see a broader range of body types and personalities, as I know a lot of gay men who don't fit the stereotype and feel marginalised.

Didn't JY try to enter pageants? Did that ever go anywhere?

nancybotwinbloom · 30/08/2020 15:38

I can't get the link to open?

Is it a women who identifies as a man competing in mr gay uk?

DeaconBoo · 30/08/2020 16:09

Fair play to them for competing particularly as they haven't been on hormones etc (and identifying as trans needn't require any physical or medical changes) so is going against a whole lot of stereotypes. Will be interesting to see the outcome - I'm sure gay men are super-inclusive and welcoming.

What a horrifying thought.

By definition, gay men are not into vaginas. Most find the concept completely horrifying.

Suggesting that someone can change sex just by saying so makes an absolute mockery of biology, sexuality and should rightly be challenged.

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/08/2020 18:16

Whilst there are many gay men who are horrified at what the transagenda is doing to women's rights, there is also a sizeable proportion of them who are quite sneery about it and strongly insist that TWAW. Although they're a bit quieter on the TMAM front.

I'm hoping that there is a decent overlap between the TWAW gay men and the audience of Mr Gay England. Because maybe the infiltration of their spaces by (oh, the horror!) females and their gut reaction to that will be instructive to them. It's a big 'maybe', I realise. But I can always hope.

I think the transman won't win, but it will allow those gay men to demonstrate their inclusiveness, as it still won't affect them.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 31/08/2020 13:57

LGB Alliance have pointed out the bias in this article - stating that the person will be appearing with 'other men'

FlamingoAndJohn · 31/08/2020 14:11

Hang on. If TWAW then TMAM so how can a man be a drag king?

That aside I wish him luck. It’s always interesting to challenge convention at events like that.

Yes. It's a woman who has had a mastectomy but doesn't take cross-sex hormones (all that facial fluff is glued on); they identify as a transman and works as a drag king. It's probably a publicity stunt, but they do look quite masculine in their shirts-off Instragram photos.
It's over to the gay men now, their reactions should be interesting.

JY attempted to enter the 2019 Miss BC pageant. He sent in an entry form with a photo (the one where JY posed in the ill-fitting purple ballgown) and that was as far as it got.
HPFA · 31/08/2020 19:24

I suppose no one really gets hurt here do they?

Chiyo could use female toilets and take part in female sports if they so desired, they've entered a gay men's competition and I imagine most gay men will clap politely and then choose another winner.

But I don't get how if you're a man you can be a "drag king"? Isn't the whole definition of drag that you're imitating the opposite sex?
