No words.

I’m confused what on Earth this conversation was.

And when did biology and/or sex ed go out the window at school? Doesn’t look like this person even had the basics!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/08/2020 14:43

I've only skimmed it but Jane Clare Jones used some sort of archaelogical reference and this young woman popped up to say it was being misused/oversimplified/misunderstood or something of that sort. Fair enough. How it got from that to this is beyond me.

I was reading that earlier. I love Jane Clare Jones. I'm not in twitter but I do read it regularly and she is usually my first go to.
I just saw this on Twitter too which is a good response to the "can't tell what sex" crowd.

So she has two biological parents? In which case she can be certain one is male and other female. Assuming she was not an IVF baby, one has a penis and produces sperm, the other has a vagina and produces eggs. She can make a pretty big assumption about how the eggs and sperm got to meet... especially if her parents are or were in a loving relationship. So she does know about their sex, gender, sexuality (at the time of conception), genitals and hormones. What she should say is that thinking about her parents having sex is a bit Eewww so she prefers not to think about it.

kerfuffling · 08/08/2020 15:07

Well, she's a fuckwit, isn't she?

(She/he/it/them or whatever, naturally).

Vermeil · 08/08/2020 15:09

Gormless sophistry 🙄

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 08/08/2020 15:10

Ooh I saw this.

How can someone profess to not know the sex of their parents?
I'm assuming she wasn't breastfed.

Datun · 08/08/2020 15:15

@Vermeil

Gormless sophistry 🙄
🤣

The word gormless is far too under utilised.

JellySlice · 08/08/2020 15:32

Bizarre attitude. And perhaps an odd relationship with her parents, too. We all know that our biological parents had the appropriate genitals, hormones and other sex characteristics to allow reproduction. Therefore we know their sexes. We may well not know what they feel like inside, what all their personal feelings, emotions, beliefs are. So maybe we don't know their 'gender identities'. But what kind of parent-child relationship has no intimate communication? I may never have seen my father's genitals, but he told me when he developed prostate cancer. My parents and I have talked about our hopes and our beliefs, have agreed or disagreed, have learned from each other.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/08/2020 15:38

Reminds me of a rather rubbish detective novel I read where the teenager found baby photos of themselves with different parents, then their birth certificate with different parent names. DNA test showed they were her parents... But they had both under gone sex reassignment surgery so her mother was her father and vice versa. It made no sense whatsoever.

Deliriumoftheendless · 08/08/2020 15:42

I watched one of my parents go through menopause. If only I knew which one. Hmmm.

feetfreckles · 08/08/2020 15:43

Urgh, genitals, urgh, biology, like animals and stuff, urgh icky

ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2020 15:46

Every person on earth with the smallest capacity for thought knows, without doubt, the sex of their biological parents, grandparents ad ... not quite infinitum, I suppose if you go millions or maybe it's billions of years back you'd get to an asexual ancestor. And you know that one was a fertile male, one was a fertile female - ivf notwithstanding, a woman produced their egg.

You don't need to know the exact details of their anatomy or hormone levels, whatever they were it was sufficient to know their sex unambiguously. The child is all the proof required.

Mumoblue · 08/08/2020 15:48

I would argue the exact opposite. I know because of my existence the biological sex of my parents, but I have zero idea how they feel internally about the idea of gender.

Also, there's no such problem determining someone's sex from a twitter photograph or name when rape and death threats are being sent, is there? 🤔

Or is it just a huge coincidence that they get sent to females and not males?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/08/2020 15:52

Goodness, so despite having absolutely no idea who this person is, I already know more about her biological parents than she does? Ok.

wellbehavedwomen · 08/08/2020 15:59

I mean, I get knowing that your parents had sex to create you is uncomfortable for many people... but that's truly weapons grade denial.

HopelessSemantics · 08/08/2020 16:00

She can probably check out which one washes the dishes and which one sits around on their arse and make a fair guess.

TheShoesa · 08/08/2020 16:01

Makes me think of something the marvellous ManiacMagpie wrote, after having had a conversation with a TWAW couple during one of her Saturday protests

When I asked if they could look me in the eye and say that they didn't know which one of their parents impregnated the other - however they identified and whether or not they are trans - they yelled at me some more

I do hope Maniac Magpie is okay, it is a while since I've seen her on here. Inspiring woman.

For those unfamilier with what she did

DialSquare · 08/08/2020 16:09

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale

Indeed. Anyone would think they are making things up to suit their agenda.

Binterested · 08/08/2020 19:14

That is hilarious.

One wears a bra and one doesn’t ?

One can grow a beard and one can’t ?

One has periods and one definitely doesn’t?

LOne grew big with child and appeared to feed them from their front chest appendages and one didn’t ?

One uses a urinal and one doesn’t ? I mean I’ve never been in the urinals with my dad but I’d be surprised if he was queuing for the gents and then once there heading for a cubicle to wee because he actually doesn’t have a penis Grin

I mean it’s true I have made some assumptions but I’m also pretty sure that my dad has a penis tho I’ve never seen it.

Binterested · 08/08/2020 19:15

Are these the same people who think the moon landings were a hoax - with Israel behind the whole thing for reasons that never seem to be made clear.

Augustseemsbetter · 08/08/2020 19:17

My parents never discussed their feelings about self identity.

I could see my dad's five o clock shadow and male pattern baldness though.

I do not get the logic in this person's train of thought at all.

Binterested · 08/08/2020 19:18

And no I don’t know their genders. But I know their personalities quite well.
