Women are trying to weaponise cervical cancer for their own agenda

A headline from fucking PinkNews again because CNN used the phrase 'individuals with a cervix' and apparently women taking issue with this means we are trying weaponise cervical cancer for our own agenda.

Every single male cancer charity unashamedly (and rightly so) refers to men as men, no mention of penis haver or person with testicles or individual with a prostate. Where is the outrage at the lack of inclusive language there?

Not sure why I'm even posting this tbh, just needed to get it off my chest as I'm so angry at the blatant hatred aimed towards women and the so called 'woke' generation are oblivious.

Evil soldiers of the oppressive Ciswoman Army! With your mighty weaponry of Cervical Cancer hand grenades, and Being Groped in Public mortar shells, and your Getting Paid Less landmines. How dare you stamp your "but biology is really a thing" jackboots all over the delicate feelings of the vulnerable!

Melroses · 04/08/2020 22:06

@Sunrise234

I agree with what is being said about prostate cancer vs cervical cancer but what about intersex people can they get cervical cancer? And would this be classed as a non ‘female’ or whatever the correct terminology is? (Sorry for any offence/ignorance I just genuinely don’t know)
Hopefully anyone with a difference in sexual development these days is aware of what that means for them. There is a mechanism to be withdrawn from the screening programme where the woman has no cervix which is used in case of hysterectomy etc. so that you don't get a recall letter. So it is between the GP and patient.

I doubt the screening services or charities that promote screening have any expertise in this area.

@LangClegsInSpace

Our 'own agenda' being to help prevent women's deaths from cervical cancer through the use of clear and accessible information?

Can't see a problem with that.

Everyone should just ignore prick news. They have less credibility than the daily star.

I would ignore it, but it repeatedly appears on facebook and I'm noticing an increase in the amount of my 'friends' who are jumping on this woke band wagon with seemingly no idea of the consequences. But I have no idea how to challenge it?

@MadamBatty and @StopGo Flowers

The whole thing is horrendous.

Add trans men and NB people, sure. But erase women? GTFO.

BatShite · 04/08/2020 22:09

I guess cis man is rare, only spoken between groups of transmen or something. Was the first I had seen it too (except for as an afterthought on twitter threads or something) I think. I feel so bad for them tbh, been sold a lie, now are claimed to be hugely privilaged over a group of guys, told to shut up unless they need to be used as a prop for something else TRAs want..and many still seem to think the TRA narrative is about a 'fairer/easier' life for all transpeople, when thats clearly nowhere near the case..

ArriettyJones · 04/08/2020 22:10

So they managed to use the word “women” correctly in their own nasty headline then? How strange, almost like the truth slips out if they don’t concentrate really hard. Someone will be in trouble for that.

Sunrise234 · 04/08/2020 22:12

@Melroses thank you.

BluebonicPlague · 04/08/2020 22:14

Well said, wellbehavedwoman and other pps.

Another thing, beside the DARVO and sheer misogyny - as if that weren't enough! - is the utter narcissism.

As if things like cervical cancer are ever about anything but capital C Cervical capital C Cancer! They are not! They are about the fucking Cancer, ways of detecting it, stopping it, dealing with its after effects, helping people. Helping people who might not know that this particular part of their unmentionable female body is called a cervix. It's all wretched. Cervical cancer is NOT about TW. Talking about it has absolutely zilch to do with them unless it relates to their mother, sister, daughter (god help us) or someone else close to them.

And that's the problem, isn't it? It's either about them, or it's a problem because it's not about them.

xsquared · 04/08/2020 22:14

Pink News need to fuck right off.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/08/2020 22:18

They pretend it's about FTMs, but it isn't.

This 100%, the whole concept of inclusivity has been taken to the extreme. I wonder how many trans people (not just the professionally offended on their behalf) actually care so much about this.

An acquaintance through a charity we both help out with is a trans man and he couldn't care less what it says of the GP letter that comes through reminding him to go for a smear test. He goes because he has a cervix and that's the end of it. But then he also manages to go through life as a man with no real issues about it despite transitioning as an adult (hormones, no surgery) so has people who have known him to be female.
I suspect this probably closer reflects the feelings of a lot of trans people, which only strengthens the argument that there is a ulterior motive behind the TRA movement.

On rereading it, Ben says almost exactly this. I guess some of the article stuck in my head. I do find the whole thing hugely unfair on transmen tbh. Not really 'NB' as..well I don't think thats a thing really as I reckon all of s (or near all) are non-binary. But transmen get the raw end of the deal by far. I wonder why that is, when usually its the males who dominate, when it comes to trans stuff, 'men' are bottom of the pile Hmm

Yep. Can't argue with that. I used to enjoy the spoof version of Prick News on Twitter a couple of years ago but the humourless spoilsports got it banned. I wonder if there's any screenshots anywhere.
ShiveringCoyote · 04/08/2020 22:44

Women in Ireland have died because of smear test fuck ups. They were told their smears were fine when in fact they were the opposite. They tried to cover it up and pay them to stay quiet.
Weaponising my high hole.

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 04/08/2020 22:45

[quote nauticant]Grace Petrie being ultra classy about this:

I've never heard of her, but her personality definitely doesn't match her name does it? Vile.

StillNotAGirl · 04/08/2020 22:50

@TheGoogleMum

The double stabdard applied to cervical cancer and prostate cancer is shocking. Its just so clear theres something not right here. The excuses over prostate cancer is apparently trans women are less likely to get it (although as they don't all take hormones or have surgery surely some would be at just as much risk as any other male). I can see some of the point about inclusivity but then I think it should say "women and trans men" if that's the real agenda here (it isnt). A lot of women don't know what a cervix is.
Transmen who've had a full hysterectomy won't get cervical cancer so that argument doesn't wash

Weaponising cancer my fucking arse

In fact i think i can go so far as to say that anyone using the phrase ‘weaponising cancer’ (Without being ironic) is a complete cunt

Can i do that? Have i missed a valid reason to use that phrase?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/08/2020 22:55

Who the fuck is grace petrie?

I’m gonna have to google

Trouble is I’d have to actually go see grace Petrie just to email...i went to your show..ner nicki ner ner

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/08/2020 22:57

DialSquare · 04/08/2020 23:03

It just completely backs up the narcissism. Everyone has to bend over backwards for their hurt feelings but other peoples terrible experiences are only mentioned to hurt them.

DandyMandy · 04/08/2020 23:06

What is this obsession with the word "weaponise"? Absolutely pathetic and makes me dislike my generation. As a 23 year old, I'm sorry it has come to this and I wish more people my age would wake the hell up.

BluebonicPlague · 04/08/2020 23:09

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Yes.

Tbh, if anything or anyone's being weaponised here, it's FTMs.

HeirloomTomato · 04/08/2020 23:24

Cervical cancer awareness campaign = ‘How dare women weaponise their own bodies to draw attention to women’s health issues and exclude their trans sisters!! Disgusting TERFs!’

Prostate cancer awareness campaign = ‘Wonderful! So glad they’re finally focusing on men’s health and getting the menfolk who are too toxically masculine to talk about their own bodies to finally open up and access health services’

And still people want to believe that misogyny is no longer a problem in our society. This kind of BS double standard goes right back to deep rooted misogyny and patriarchy where men’s bodies were seen as the standard human template, unsexed, and women’s bodies were always sexed, sexual, different, wrong and deviant. Well done to the new and improved LGBTQIAA+++ movement for taking us back to the Middle Ages!
