ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/08/2020 00:04

Looks like it, Ewe.

StandUpStraight · 09/08/2020 00:06

FFS. Is there nothing they don’t have their tentacles in?

boatyardblues · 09/08/2020 00:08

”transgender activist group Mermaids“

Wow.

Horehound · 09/08/2020 00:11

I don't have a clue what is going on. Can someone explain what the big deal about this is :s

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/08/2020 00:12

' transgender activist group' - that's an interesting description.

@StandUpStraight Thank you Smile

Not quite as earth-shaking as I’d hoped, but very disturbing Hmm

Cabinfever10 · 09/08/2020 00:13

So are mermaids now allowed to rewrite legal rulings that are being taught in law classes 🤔

FloralBunting · 09/08/2020 00:13

It's the appetizer, peeps. Cool yer jets.

TinselAngel · 09/08/2020 00:13

That the actual law is thought to be so offensive, it has to be shone through Mermaids prism before it can be reported.
ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/08/2020 00:14

Yeah, I found the article a wee bit confusing.

A magazine for A level law students wanted to publish an article on Harry 'fair cop' Miller's law case and freedom of expression.

The article was written, extensively quoting from the court case.

The publisher then sent the article to Mermaids asking for their opinion.

The publisher then asked the author of the article to make substantial changes.

Author resigned in fury.

Portnlemon · 09/08/2020 00:14

The big deal is the subservience shown to Mermaids over what should be straight forward law report. Mermaids were offered editorial control over how a factual case could be spun for a level students.

StandUpStraight · 09/08/2020 00:15

Yes, they’re calling it what it is. It doesn’t get much more activist than trying to obfuscate the law, as taught to law students. This is disgusting. It don’t buy for a minute that the teachers or students would find it triggering - although of course if they do they should not be teaching or studying the law - this is a political move to manipulate the narrative back on track. I also don’t believe that it is normal practice to “go to an external body for a second opinion” on an A level case summary.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/08/2020 00:15

Appetiser?! How long do we have to stay up? Shock

Horehound · 09/08/2020 00:15

Right, so how is this something to get excited about? Surely just shows how much power they have.
Not a good thing

TehBewilderness · 09/08/2020 00:16

@Cabinfever10

So it would seem.
TinselAngel · 09/08/2020 00:17

Because people are now being told how much power they have.
FloralBunting · 09/08/2020 00:18

For crying out loud, wims, get some kip. Eat regular meals, wash, go to work etc. The cork will pop when it pops and you won't miss it. Promise x
compulsivesnacker · 09/08/2020 00:18

Law students? I was trying to work out why A level students were having articles written for them. I assumed some sort of comprehension exercise.
Is that a thing now? Magazines for A level students? Confused

StandUpStraight · 09/08/2020 00:19

Floral Grin good advice

TinselAngel · 09/08/2020 00:19

You're not my Mum!

compulsivesnacker · 09/08/2020 00:19

I hope so, Floral. Smile

BitOfFun · 09/08/2020 00:19

I don't understand Hachette's motivation for this?

FloralBunting · 09/08/2020 00:21

Tinsel, no, but I do run a shadowy feminist syndicate dedicated to making sure the women of FWR stay in peak condition. Eat yer greens.

Iwant2beJKRwhenIgrowUp · 09/08/2020 00:21

I think you really have to reflect on the implications of this.

A report about a British Court ruling is being edited/diluted by Mermaids input, for the actual curriculum that will be taught to A-Level Law Students.

Whoa!

That is wrong on so many levels.
