It's still OK to say 'men' on tena products 😡

I took this photo in a pharmacy yesterday - I almost laughed at how big the word 'men' was on the packaging, and yet none of the other products dared say they were for women.
The obvious double standard just makes me so angry - the attempted erasure of the word 'woman' is just so obvious here.

^So everyone knows who they are for right??

frog22 · 17/07/2020 11:01

It is a double standard but surly against men. It comes across patronising that they need to be told in bold letters that it's for them.

Justhadathought · 17/07/2020 11:01

It's because they are making it clear that brand pack is directed to men as Tena is mainly associated with women and would be overlooked by guys. They are trying to make an obvious marketing choice. Nothing to do with Trans etc. Can you imagine our stupid it would be marketing tampons and having a blurb - "for women"

I think we're talking about the principle now, rather than this particular product. If 'feminine products' were to have any reference to females, women or girls removed from them for the purposes of 'inclusion' or political correctness; that would indeed be stupid. It would be entirely natural to have those words on the product.

But yes, in the case of Tena - incontinence pads are not something that people associate so much with men, that is why they have the word men on them. It is very common for men to become incontinent with age, of after prostate treatments.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/07/2020 11:03

I’ve been in the position of having to buy these for my dad before his care home started providing them. Having MEN on the packaging helped him be a bit more accepting of wearing them. Also they are in the “Womens Health” isle, maybe they should be with the shaving foam instead?

If we live to a ripe old age we will probably all end up needing these.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 17/07/2020 11:13

Maybe you could start a campaign against their transphobic packaging OP? Perhaps they could rename them as 'Tena for Penis-Havers' or some such.

Tena is a brand associated with women. It's a slightly embarrassing brand but I think "Tena Lady" , peeing when you laugh/ sneeze etc has entered in female culture sufficiently that "Tena Lady" is well known and women can joke about it and are unlikely to be bothered about being seen purchasing it. The need for Tena is not limited to older women- pregnancy can cause issues too.

I don't think that is the same for men. I don't see a problem with Tena clearly marking which products are for men.

Lifeisabeach09 · 17/07/2020 11:15

Isn't putting 'men' on the packaging for a targeted audience though? It's generally assumed pads are for women as PP have said.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/07/2020 11:15

Glad im not the only one who thinks you been daft over the name Tena Men.

Yes- this is a non issue
SarahTancredi · 17/07/2020 11:19

Not any more its not.

Some of the sex education packs include such phrases as " someone may become pregnant if the person with a vagina also has a womb" as if uts sone freak occurrence.

Our children are not being taught biological facts about their bodies. Inclusive language is deemed more important eveb though it erases the biogical reality of what happens to what person.

Stephanie davies-arai explains about this in her interview with Graham linehan

Jumblebumblemess · 17/07/2020 11:21

We can't have the ejaculaters getting all in a tizz and getting the wrong product can we? Grin they have to spell it out nice and clear for them.

Iiketoreadeveryday · 17/07/2020 11:23

@Coronacurls

It's not Tena particularly, it's that it is fine to say 'men' in big letters, but no other product on the aisle, all of which are for women's biological needs, are allowed to say 'women' on them.

It's about the word 'woman' meaning 'adult human female'.

Maybe cause we know they are for us! I would sell these to older men half Blind and degraded to be buying tena men clearly labelled maybe for this reason no?! Not the sexist version sorry
chelsea2704 · 17/07/2020 11:23

There are literally hundreds of thousands of people dying in the world why is this a problem 😂 1. They are marketed toward men.. hence MEN. 2. It is likely that as a whole men would require a different shaped incontinence pad than a lady so the specification is needed. 3. More common for a women to have incontinence due to childbirth so the product is 90% more of a womens product... and lastly 4. They dont need to put "women/woman" on tampons and sanitary towels because to put it bluntly.. men dont have vaginas that bleed once a month.

CarlottaValdez · 17/07/2020 11:25

But why are you cross with Tena? They aren’t refusing to say women are they?

SarahTancredi · 17/07/2020 11:26

Men have periods dont you know.

Jk rowling was lynched when pointing out only women menstruate

Seriously we have a pandemic going on with an incompetent government "dealing" with it and you're upset about this?

Rates of smear tests are at an all time low and the word women is being left out of literature and any women who registers as male at the drs will not receive a letter reminding them to be screened. Any man however registered as female will receive a reminder

This will cost lives too so yes its an issue and yes women are amgry

PheasantPlucker1 · 17/07/2020 11:33

Its called multi tasking.

We can care about more than one thing at once. Feminists are just fabulous like that.

BertiesLanding · 17/07/2020 11:43

@vodkaredbullgirl

Oh ffs does it matter. Tena lady will always be tena lady. Even if they dont put the lady bit on the packaging.
It really matters to me, yes.
CarlottaValdez · 17/07/2020 11:43

I just don’t understand why this isn’t “well done Tena for recognising biology matters and correctly describing those with penises as men”.

SarahTancredi · 17/07/2020 11:44

because its only men who get alto acknowledge their sex.

Women are only a feeling inside a man's head

This is about pleasing men at all costs regardless of harm done to women in the process

CarlottaValdez · 17/07/2020 11:49

Tena’s website and products do say women and ladies though. I’m not denying the issue, I’m saying the target here is wrong.

SarahTancredi · 17/07/2020 12:29

Yo be fair that seems tobhe reasonably common. Websites will say one thing then the twitter feed will say another

Although has to be said in some cases there appears to have been a little bit of a back peddling on that. Especially when a scandal of sorts has been pointed out and they suddenly twig that alienating women isn't such a good idea...

Disturbingly alot of menstrual cup companies are the biggest culprits now for not mentioning women/girls. Kinda ironic since many also do a buy one give one deal and donate them to schoolgirls in Africa. Which is great but at the same time you wanna hit your head on the desk...

DidoLamenting · 17/07/2020 13:44

It really isn't. It's about making clear which Tena products are for men
