There's a lot of very pro JK Rowling sentiment here.
My children - especially my son - is very anti . . . and says what she has done is horrendous.
Please can someone help and explain the reason for her being so defended on here?
Thanks!

Reading that transcript genuinely reminded me of the 'food' and 'love' episodes of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. If you don't know what that is, don't look for it, trust me. But yes, it's very cult like. I feel sad that such a complex and important topic is being represented by people who's mantra is 'don't think too hard about it'. It doesn't stop the subject of gender identity being complicated. It just suggests to those who have opposing questions that you will never get a rational answer, because the whole thing is built on a foundation of whataboutery. Surely trans and gender dysphoric people deserve better spokespeople than that? I say this putting aside all of my opinions about gender criticism. People who trust foundations such as Mermaids to guide them through their journeys have no idea who's hands they're putting their faith into.

@Feathered I think its really rude to start a thread asking a question and then not respond to any of the answers given to you. What's the point in starting a conversation if you don't want to participate?

If you start a thread, you are usually keen to respod to posts on it. The OP has not come back as far as I can see. This tells me the post was not in good faith.

Take the lettuce leaf from the anorexic, after all if we dont accept their delusions that they are fat, we are phobic of their identity as a fat person. Accept their version of themselves because to do anything else is offensive. Agree they are fat but not only that, act along with the delusion that their poor mental health has created and talk them out of eating if they waver in the ridiculous notion that they need to eat, even if they are at a minute to 12 on their own personal doomsday clock

Tell the person with body dysmorphia that they are indeed ugly so you dont offend their belief that they are certainly ugly. Dont offer treatment to help overcome their misconceptions. Do the right thing and offer them a paper bag.

I identify as a black man. WHOAAAAA haven't you followed the BLM campaign? You cannot understand being black because you have never experienced it! Racist! Oh, would you prefer I called you Edward? It absolutely doesn't matter that you've absolutely no experience of what it is to be male because you've never experienced it.

Oops! Can't say that! Can't talk about biological sex.

Offer a teen psychological help for gender dysphoria? No, they dont need it. They just need to have their entire body permanently changed. No going back!

ALL of these conditions mentioned originate neurologically in the same brain area. ALL involved in perception of self and others. We agree that eating disorders and body dysmorphia are false and delusional.

It's bloody terrifying that teenagers are transitioning. They are at an age where they are working out who they are, they're flooded with hormones and so many stresses. How many times did you HATE your life as a teenager? I hate being me! But now they get this inkling that they're in the wrong body and it's fully supported to the point they're being given synthetic hormones and worse, actual surgery. Higher function reasoning takes place in a brain area which isn't fully developed until 25 years old but lob bits off, stick bits on, take bits out of people much younger than this? Scary.

What I've just said is a hundred times more TERF than anything JKR has said. I just need to point out some of the seriously weird thinking and hypocrisy around this issue.

To claim that sex doesn't exist or it's trans phobic to point out an irrefutable fact is going along with a delusion.

Btw I couldn't care less and will call you whichever pronoun you prefer nor am I saying transgenderism is a delusion. I'm saying it's bloody ridiculous to go along with the delusion that sex doesn't matter.

But there IS a possibility that for some, it's vertain brain regions going a bit wonky so it shouldn't be firmly accepted without question that a person is in the wrong body. To do so is dangerous and damaging.

... Unpopular opinion I know...

At least you admit it's just an opinion.

Outside of witch-hunts, reasonable people normally use specific evidence to explain why someone is “horrendous”. Then those defending her will do likewise.

Can you see how starting with a bald assertion that someone is “horrendous”, then asking for a defence, suggests the psychology of the witch-hunt?

To allege that someone has "done" something horrendous, is a very serious matter. I hope you can help your son to be part of a world where we critically consider evidence rather than assume positions of implacable hostility towards other people based on a crowd consensus.
