That statement is bang out of order. First they say they don't agree with her views on trans issues but then go on to say that they deplore racism, homophobia and transphobia, thereby implying that in addition to being an awful T**F she's also racist and homophobic!

Of course they don't say anything about deploring sexism, ageism or disablism.

SunsetBeetch · 24/06/2020 21:29

Munroe is now saying that they didn't say half those things...even though they acknowledged them and apologised for them at the time. Hmm

They had a peer of the Realm as honorary vice president and they sacked her.

I wouldn’t have done that.

Divoc2020 · 24/06/2020 22:07

"Without women the novel would die" - the irony of an article Damian Barr is quoted in six months ago:

www.theguardian.com/books/2019/dec/07/why-women-love-literature-read-fiction-helen-taylor

"Women are fiction’s life support system – buying 80% of all novels" - Ouch! The Booker Prize and Damian Barr will notice then if women decide to no longer support their literary activities....

JemimaShore · 24/06/2020 22:09

Damian Barr has protected his twitter account.

His campaign got rid of ALL the honorary members. I bet they all just love him...

Divoc2020 · 24/06/2020 22:14

@JemimaShore

Damian Barr has protected his twitter account.

I have a twitter account where I was following him, so I can see it's all now just him and a bunch of his TRA luvvies congratulating themselves for bullying an old lady Hmm
JemimaShore · 25/06/2020 01:59

No surprise, Divoc

But this is like a rainbow version of the cultural revolution.

Anyone who has called for Baroness Nicholson's head on a platter, anyone who has called JKR a transphobe - they will come for you too.

Ben, BBC LGBT reporter - as woke as woke can be - has just been denounced in PN. A month ago, Amanda Jette Knox was turned on by those she'd fought for, tried to be such a good ally to. It's never enough.

Is failure to submit to public displays of male dominance on the list of offenses?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/06/2020 09:54

Jeezo.

I just got Janice Turner's joke about Victoria Peckham.

I'm an idiot.

Yay for TRA enriching my life!

Dreeple · 25/06/2020 09:59

I’m checking her Twitter in hope she continues work such as her letters to ASDA.

FloatOn · 25/06/2020 13:06

I just got Janice Turner's joke about Victoria Peckham.

I dont what is it? Am I being really thick, I've wondered this since I started following her.

MsSafina · 25/06/2020 14:38

"We are living through some kind of fucked up cultural war right now."

More votes for Tories and Trump.

Dreeple · 25/06/2020 16:23

Looks like she’s still in the retweeting game.

SarahTancredi
Does this mean I can complain to the CJS when they sent me a letter addressed to Mr Tancredi?

You'd be amazed how quickly the Department of Work and Pensions started to listen to me and correct the three other mistakes they were making about my pension when I pointed out that I am not Mr Firstname Surname and that they had misgendered me. It was scarily swift, compared with the previous two years of flannel...

Sometimes we can use this idiot rubbish to our own advantage.

MsSafina · 28/06/2020 08:42

Does Munroe know about the links the company she fronts L'Oreal has to the Third Reich and that the founder was a well known anti Semite? What is she doing representing such a company?

BovaryX · 28/06/2020 08:45

There is a great article in the Telegraph about the Orwellian doublethink which dominates the SJ movement. It opens by stating that the Archbishop of Canterbury is contemplating ecclesiastical iconoclasm with an enthusiasm reminiscent of Thomas Cranmer.Grin It concludes with this:

For how long can this state of affairs continue? Being obliged to parrot propaganda and declare the sky is pink to retain your livelihood is emotionally draining. Neither is it healthy for our institutions to be so consistently out of step with public opinion, overseen by a detached cultural elite that is only occasionally roused from its perch by a disobliging election or referendum result. Few of us wish to inhabit a monoculture, and the quality of artistic output is already suffering; take the Booker Prize’s own deterioration in the literary landscape.Worst of all, it will destroy genuine progress. In liberal California, presumably to pave the way for “affirmative action” measures, the legislature has just voted to strike anti-discrimination commitments from its constitution – a development that should terrify all thinking people. Britain is never far behind America and already ours is a topsy-turvy world, in which bullies feign victimhood, discrimination masquerades as social justice and “feminist” activists use the mantle of progressivism to hound women with impunity. Truly, we are through the looking glass now

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 04/07/2020 11:21

That quote from the Baroness at the end of the BBC article is a classic.

Absolutely refusing to repent her ‘sins’ at the feet of anyone, let alone Damian ‘Prick’ Barr.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/07/2020 21:47

More Damien Barr: Private Eye has a complete Books and Bookmen on him and his behaviour in Issue 1526 (17th-30th July 2020), which says more or less what I had gathered here: that he probably did it not because of something she said in 2013 but because of something she said in 2020, and that his own past indiscretions have as a result been brought to light and bitten him in the bum.

They seem quite pleased to tell their readers that his literary agents had to issue an apology on his behalf; they also wonder why he didn't also demand the resignation from anything to do with the Booker of David Willetts, who in parliament voted against equalisation of the gay age of consent and against gay adoption. "It's all a great mystery..." they end, implying strongly that it is no such thing.

SunsetBeetch · 18/07/2020 22:41

The person who has really tainted the Booker, if anyone, is Barr. There was no need for any of this. What an absolute pranny.

SunsetBeetch · 18/07/2020 22:47

I love Private Eye. That's just reminded me to get the latest issue.
