they call us cisgender, and that's ok? But misgendering them is bullying?

They need to have one rule for transwomen and the same rule for none binary ( agender) women

DeRigueurMortis · 23/06/2020 20:15

Thinking about it I'm not surprised MB has it in for the Baroness.

After all, she's everything MB aspires to; respected, successful, intelligent, powerful and female.

''transphobic memes that do not represent me as a person' - this is a really odd way to refer to one's own words, or have I misunderstood?

Datun · 23/06/2020 20:22

Apparently, her own husband set up the booker prize?

Divoc2020 · 23/06/2020 20:32

I saw that Damien Barr was dredging up the Booker link and the fact that the Baroness voted against gay marriage (not sure if it was in the past, or more recently).
I'm so disappointed, as I used to like Damien and his Book Club, but now he's become another self-important white male pandering to his LGBT buddies. He needs to take a look at his book readers and viewers - they're all 40+ women!

Gingerkittykat · 23/06/2020 20:37

I thought it was Harrop that initiated the complaint.

[[https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hiC_IEThECEWbez2s6-jdo3EBXag4tIl these]] are the documents people are asking you send to complain>

FantaOra · 23/06/2020 20:39

Cancel culture is seriously insane.

I watched the BBC Civilization series first episode last night, it starts with ISIS smashing statues and beheading a museum director .... You can't help but see the same fundamentalist mindset in lockdown madness. The sooner we can get back to everyday normality the better.

Sukibert · 24/06/2020 10:19

From twitter this morning here is a snap shot of Bergdorfs post orchestrating complaints about the Baroness. Some women are sending supportive messages to Ms Scott-Moncrieff, the commissioner for standards in the HOL. The email is [email protected]

The politician is thought to have made the comments on Twitter about Munroe Bergdorf, an outspoken advocate for social justice.

'Thought to have made'?

Surely if it was on twitter there is evidence?

NotBadConsidering · 24/06/2020 10:39

I see the Monitors are out in force Hmm.

Munroe seems to be irate that the pic that collates all of Munroe’s most famous quotes isn’t accurate.

mobile.twitter.com/MunroeBergdorf/status/1275475618445119490

But why would Pink News report it and why would Munroe apologise at the time? Which half DID Bergdorf say? Aren’t there screenshots and receipts?

LastTrainEast · 24/06/2020 10:44

It's too hot to construct a sentence without stepping on the cracks in the pavement so I'm just going to laugh derisively at the attempt to smear a British Life Peer and move on.

RoyalCorgi · 24/06/2020 10:46

I saw that Damien Barr was dredging up the Booker link and the fact that the Baroness voted against gay marriage (not sure if it was in the past, or more recently).

That is really disappointing. Loved his memoir, and have been to a couple of his book events.

Ginnyhip46 · 24/06/2020 11:27

How does this sound before I hit send?

Dear Ms Scott-Moncrief,
I would like to add my support for the Baroness at this time after hearing she has been reported by Munroe Bergdorf. Here is a list of various things that this individual has said in the past. I feel it's an attempt to target and bully the Baroness for standing up for women and children's safety at a time when women's voices are being silenced and we are being threatened with rape and abuse of we don't agree with our spaces being co-opted. There must be a point where logic and common sense take hold again and I feel there is a climate of fear created by the TRA which is now seeing science and reason being railroaded over. I've never been a Tory voter, I've always been liberal left but in this case I feel that the Baroness deserves support and this is a dark effort by certain people to discredit her and gaslight prominent women to stop them from speaking.

This was a report on what this individual said at the time in a trans supporting paper www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/03/03/munroe-bergdorf-apologises-for-tweet-joking-about-gay-bashing-kurt-from-glee/
So why they are pretending they didn't say this as a way to hurt the Baroness I do not know.

Even if like myself you are an inclusive and forward thinking person, please see reason. My 12 year old Autistic daughter is a lesbian who is terrified of boys and sharing changing rooms or toilets with males - even if they are identifying as women, and I myself have been the victim of rape and abuse by men, and do not wish to be silenced on this matter. The Baroness is one of the few brave voices speaking out against this crime of silencing women who dare question what is happening.
As I said I have never been a fan of the Tories and would never vote for them but I do support Baroness Nicholson which may indicate how strongly I feel about this attempt to bully her. Kind Regards etc

nauticant · 24/06/2020 12:16

Don't use jargon like "TRA". When I'm engaging with people away from GC circles I refer to "trans activists".

"Tory" could be interpreted as judgemental. I'd refer to "Conservative".

JemimaShore · 24/06/2020 12:33

Lop out the bit about "would never vote for them". Always behave as if your vote is up for grabs Wink

Great letter.

Ginnyhip46 · 24/06/2020 12:48

Awesome thanks for the feedback I'll incorporate these - it's good to look at language and see how it translates - so easy to just sound mental instead of logical!

isabellerossignol · 24/06/2020 12:51

The politician is thought to have made the comments on Twitter about Munroe Bergdorf, an outspoken advocate for social justice

That's the second least accurate description of Munroe Bergdorf that I've ever read. The least accurate of course being the one I can't actually say.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/06/2020 13:01

My attempt, it just needs a finishing line.

Dear Ms Scott-Moncrief,
I would very much like to voice my support for the Baroness at this time after hearing she has been reported by Munroe Bergdorf for such crimes as 'misgendering' and actuallyusing Twitter etc. to see what individualshave to say on a topic.

In particular Monroe Bergdorf has accused the Baroness of lying and bullying them. To be honest I am an infrequent Twitter user but have had occasion to read some of Bergdorf's tweets and they have often been less than pleasant, aggressivein the extreme, usuallyaimed at specific women who wish to discuss such things as the GRA, trans activism and how it clashes with women's rights.

The article in The Pink News is a fabulous (in the literal sense) piece of reportage, full of innuendo, 'is reported to haves' and other disingenuousterms, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing!

www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/06/23/tory-peer-baroness-nicholson-bullying-racism-transphobia-house-lords-munroe-bergdorf/

From start to finish that piece is fully loaded and aimed at the Baroness and her association with JK Rowling, another prominent woman who has been targetedfor asserting that biology actually is a thing!

I would like to respectfullyvoice my concern that the Lords Standards Commission is being used as a stick with which to beat the Baroness, to aid the promulgation of Trans Activist interpretation of theEqualitiesAct 2010 and to deeply undermine freedomof speech and women's rights in the matter of the protected characteristics and possible clashes.

JemimaShore · 24/06/2020 13:05

That Pink News is at risk of being "disappeared" as it is no longer politically aligned with PN's political agenda.

They disappeared the article on the survey on only 12% of the British public being in favour of self ID, when women referred to it as evidence that the public is overwhelmingly not in favour of self ID.

It's archived here.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/06/2020 16:46

God that's vile.

Posturing, emotional blackmailing and utterly devoid of self awareness.

Divoc2020 · 24/06/2020 16:56

Damian Barr is appearing on BBC Question Time tomorrow - presumably, this will be the topic.
Thread about it here:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3948367-Thursday-BBC-Question-Time-Need-to-lend-support-to-The-Baroness

Divoc2020 · 24/06/2020 16:57

Why do they never have comments open on these articles in the Guardian??

Lamahaha · 24/06/2020 16:58

Apparently, her own husband set up the booker prize?

Perhaps he was involved, but the Booker prize was originally founded by Baron Campbell of Eskan, as a way to protect the estate of his friend Ian Fleming from taxation. It's name originates from the company Booker Brothers, of which Campbell was Chairman, a powerful company in the colony of British Guiana.

The story is here, but makes no mention of the Baronesses husband. (Sorry for the off-topic moment, but I've seen this asked or stated more than once on MN.)
