FIVE DEMANDS NOT ONE LESS

I hesitate before posting as I'm not entirely sure if this is a wind up. But here is an anonymous website with dates and times of forthcoming protest marches, and five 'demands' (not one less!) that look, er, utterly reasonable...


5 KEY DEMANDS:

1. There will be granted no new ability for anyone to discriminate on the basis of Gender Identity and Expression/Gender Transition. This is our key demand.

1. The clause in the proposed amendment prohibiting conversion therapy must go ahead and must provide a ban on conversion therapy for both sexual orientations and gender expression/transition. This must include Non-Binary people.

1. The conservative government must release a statement apologising for the way they have treated transgender and non-binary people and also must apologise for even suggesting such an amendment be implemented.

1. Elizabeth Truss must either be removed or step down as Minister for Women and Equalities and must never assume the role for the rest of her life.

1. A government department for the advancement of the rights and quality of life of transgender and non-binary people specifically must be created and consulted. We also must not lose our representation in the Government Equalities Office.

"Crossroads" makes it look as though they have no clue which direction they should go in.

I mean that's easy isn't it? It's not a new ability, just using the existing one that we're asking. No amendment to law required. In fact they're the ones asking for amendments. They are very confused kiddies.

I read this like the teens I heard in Uxbridge once going on about 'The Feds' - too much American TV, and they can't seem too differentiate between UK and American laws/governance.

And the 'freedom' is to oppress females having removed their rights and protections in law.

Which is obviously a lovely, inclusive thing to do.

Yes absolutely support their right to peacefully protest their right to remove female rights and protections from 51% of the population to benefit themselves.

I wondered about that 'conversion therapy amendment' stuff as well.

On the one hand, I think the reference comes from the Sunday Times front page leak stuff from last week (www.itv.com/news/2020-06-13/boris-johnson-drops-plans-to-make-gender-change-easier/)

But they are keen to make sure it's not just gay but also trans-conversion that are both outlawed.

And then they say that the Tories "must apologise for even suggesting such an amendment be implemented" which is nonsensical. Unless... they think the Tories are saying that GIDS, Mermaids etc are pushing gay conversion ( ..'transing away the gay' suggestions made by anonymous Tavi employees on the Newsnight doc recently).

I'm going back to my first thought that this is satire tbh.

So near, yet I feel so far apart

1 as a feminist I promise never ever to discriminate on gender identity. Wholeheartedly. Completely and utterly. I will however continue to be fully conscious and accept positive and supportive discrimination based on sex.

2 totally agree that any kind of conversion therapy is horrific and should be banned. This include the conversion of gay children.

3 the government must also apologise for the way they treat women, BAME, disabled and any other abused groups

4 be kind. We promise not to go on a witch or wizard hunt.

5 representation at the highest level must be made equal for all groups who suffer discrimination . No group should ever be allowed to have a stronger voice

Thanks, xanthangum; I did see the UK press flurry last weekend and then Liz Truss's address in the HoC this past Wednesday. It seems the UK Gov WILL release a policy statement, but have not done so yet. I'll wait - and I'll side-eye anyone who can't or won't wait and ask on what basis they ARE protesting.
