UN Women - people who menstruate

This has enraged me. It’s women. Women menstruate. If some women don’t want to be defined as women because they are non-binary or trans men then good luck to them, I hope those choices make them happy, but could they please bear in mind that by refusing to use the word women in relation to periods they are dehumanising a large section of the world’s population.

Yes, I agree. I don't collude in other people's fantasies. It's a mental health issue prevelant in narcissism.

UN Women posted this yesterday. I think the tide may be turning though as the comments on Facebook were I'd say 90% outrage at them posting a privileged white man mansplaining to women what a woman is.

They've also posted Emma Watson's quote. UN Women are going all in with their alignment with the TRAs.

Not all women menstruate. All of those who menstruate are women. If the topic of discussion is about periods then use the word women.

Nope, she's still a woman, Elieza. Not all women have periods, but only women have periods.

While colluding in this it is also hiding the basis for this problem existing in the first place: which is male humans disadvantaging, controlling and oppressing female people on the basis of their biology and reproductive functions.

Like FGM is about male control of female sexuality and sexual enjoyment based on the perceived need for purity of a future male partner.

The basis for the stigma and oppression and abuse female people suffer is because they are born with female biology, and because those born with male biology have an entitlement and power to control and exploit it for their own purposes.

Why are we hiding this? Because some male people feel too upset to face that female people have female biology. And the entitlement and power to exploit this for their own purposes.

And don't start the shit about unless we use male centering language for male purposes it's saying that females who don't menstruate aren't women, you know that's disingenuous. Females are of the sex who menstruate at some point in their lives, and if they don't there is a medical reason involved because it's part of an issue help is needed with. I've got zero patience with those hiding the abuse of females to pander to male feelings.

Trans people know what they are biologically.

They can use the word women without all the transmen thinking, ah well, those women's periods won't affect me and without all the transwomen going to the doctor because they are not regularly bleeding out of their genitals.

It might be upsetting to a transman be reminded that they are forever a woman but in this scenario they are menstruating transmen! They have a lot more reminders in daily life of reality than someone using the word "woman".

I will never understand how you can believe a woman who has her womb removed is not a man but a man who (may) have his penis removed is now a woman.

Also men are not sub human.

OP is posting about a tendancy to refer to women as 'people who menstruate' (which is dehumanising), not suggesting that all women must menstruate or they are not women.

I will never stop being flabbergasted by the number of people who apparently can't hear the difference between "only women have periods" and "only people who have periods are women". This is why I genuinely think formal logic should be taught in schools. Droves of adults walking around forming beliefs on the kind of logical fallacies an AS level philosophy student would be embarrassed to make. It's actually quite scary to me.

They want to be offended and express moral outrage that's why they deliberately misinterpret what is said. The case JKR makes is reasonable so and they have no sane answer so better make her out as a bigot.

I bled for 9 solid months befpre diagnosis. Not menstruating, yet I still needed all the facilities and products aimed at menstruating people.

Because theyre not just for menstruating people, are they? Theyre also by people with cancer. People miscarrying. People who have given birth.
Not menstruators, but all women.

The only thing that made me feel subhuman was arguments like yours.

Isn't it a great that a global organisation that is supposed to fight for gender equality chooses to erase us?

It’s surely less inclusive to use terms like people who menstruate, cervix havers, birth givers - imagine trying to provide info to women with ESOL, or a learning disability about the importance of a smear test or a rubella vaccination if they can’t be told the info only applies to women/girls.
