We believe JK Rowling

Following JK Rowling's brave disclosure of domestic abuse yesterday her weasel of an ex husband has given an exclusive interview to the Daily Fail admitting to slapping her but denying physical and sexual violence.

I'm gutted for her, after keeping something like that private for many years I know expect many on Twitter will use this article to attack her.

We all know that abusers are also liars, did anyone really expect that he would admit to what he had done?

As someone who has also been the victim of sexual violence I know all too well what it feels like to be called a liar, and also relate to the post-traumatic responses she talked about in her article.

I'm hoping Jo and her daughter have all of the support they need to deal with the aftermath of this.

Those photos of them together are quite upsetting. She looks so wary. I believe her.

StylishDuck · 11/06/2020 23:47

Admitted to slapping her but denies physical violence?? Wtf does he call a slap if it isn't physical violence?

Arsehole should never have been given a platform.

I believe her.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/06/2020 23:47

I believe her.

SawingForTeens · 11/06/2020 23:47

He is a weasel.

I believe her.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 11/06/2020 23:51

I believe her. And I am outraged at the Sun giving a voice to him. Utter misogynists.

JellyFishSquish · 11/06/2020 23:52

Admitted to slapping her but denies physical violence. What is slapping then? "Sure, I hit her, but I didn't hit her"??

He has admitted.

She has suffered so much. And now, more.

I believe her. So does her daughter, who gave her consent for Jo to talk about such a deeply personal issue.

If her ex-husband wants to deny this, he has that right, but he should do so over social media, as she did, and not be enabled by the Daily Mail (who doubtless paid him for this interview).

You'd think the tabloids would have learned a lesson about fanning the flames of internet hatred after the suicide of Caroline Flack. Social media may be an unregulated cesspit but newspapers are accountable to inquiry. In addition to which, The Daily Mail in particular is frequented by a lot of women who wouldn't call themselves feminists, but wouldn't call themselves menstruators either. The Mail used these women's money to give a platform to an alleged domestic abuser? I don't see that playing well. Print sales are already in decline due to COVID 19. The DM should think about who actually buy their paper before jumping aboard the JK Rowling hate train.

Or maybe read the comment sections of their own online edition, for a sense of how well identity politics plays with their readership. (Hint: not well.)

ofwarren · 12/06/2020 00:04

Is it in the mail too? I thought it was just the s*n?
They tagged her in the post too on twitter. Im so angry for her.

BaronessFloralBunting · 12/06/2020 00:09

Jo, I believe you, I stand with you, I respect you deeply.

I am so sorry some of the men in your life have been such self serving pissbadgers, and I am glad you have support and love around you now.❤

MiddlesexGirl · 12/06/2020 00:09

Hoisted on his own petard, I believe is the expression.

Daily Mail seem pretty firmly behind JKR in the article linked.

ChubHub · 12/06/2020 00:10

I had a horrible feeling that gobshite rag would do something like this. I too hope J.K. Rowling and her daughters will be okay. I’m so grateful to her for speaking up for girls and women, and I hope it won’t be at too much detriment to her mental health.

All this shitstorm coming down on her, and for what?! Stating The. Bleeding (!). Obvious.

Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne & Emma Watson can do one as well. J.K’s books (past, current and future) will still be selling in the millions long after their acting careers have crumbled away to thick, sneezy dust.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 12/06/2020 00:16

A parade of Harry Potter stars – who all owe their Hollywood careers to Miss Rowling – lined up to put the boot in

Well said.

Also I believe you Jo.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 12/06/2020 00:18

I wonder what all the people who have been threatening violence to Rowling over the last week will make if it?

I can't help thinking the Sun's trying to sell papers to people who'll see him as the hero who did what everyone else wants to do to her.

I hope it backfires and no one reads the Sun ever again. I'm sure it'll damage them.

Sick, vile newspaper.

FantaOra · 12/06/2020 00:24

It is a sympathetic story actually and he is awful, minimising his violence.

He's in good company with all the actors and abusers on Twitter. What a disgusting world.

NookIsACrook · 12/06/2020 00:27

I believe her.

OvaHere · 12/06/2020 00:32

The Sun headline is disgusting.

Even LOJ has been forced to condemn it, although sans any kind of reflection as to his (and others) part in writing the narrative and creating an environment so hostile The Sun felt it was acceptable to run such a misogynistic front page.

Slow hand clap women hating wokesters.

However it all goes to prove J.K's point in her essay.

We’re living through the most misogynistic period I’ve experienced. Back in the 80s, I imagined that my future daughters, should I have any, would have it far better than I ever did, but between the backlash against feminism and a porn-saturated online culture, I believe things have got significantly worse for girls. Never have I seen women denigrated and dehumanised to the extent they are now. From the leader of the free world’s long history of sexual assault accusations and his proud boast of ‘grabbing them by the pussy’, to the incel (‘involuntarily celibate’) movement that rages against women who won’t give them sex, to the trans activists who declare that TERFs need punching and re-educating, men across the political spectrum seem to agree: women are asking for trouble. Everywhere, women are being told to shut up and sit down, or else.

Datun · 12/06/2020 00:33

He admits to 'slapping her hard' and she had to get a restraining order out against him, but says he's not abusive?

Dear lord. These men are Neanderthal.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/06/2020 00:35

I believe her. My ex was in denial too but I know what he did.

Datun · 12/06/2020 00:36

He's in good company with all the actors and abusers on Twitter. What a disgusting world.

Indeed. When your career depends on your public reputation, best not to be on the side of abusers.

What writer, director or producer would want to hire any of those actors now, knowing they will turn on a whim?

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 12/06/2020 00:36

I hope she lurks on mumsnet and knows the support she has here.

Is there anyway of letting her know admist all the messages she receives?!

FantaOra · 12/06/2020 00:37

So glad she managed to leave with a two month old baby.

BertBox · 12/06/2020 00:37

The article even says a woman called the police when he was abusive in public.

Poor JKR ( I never really know how to refer to her!) she's so brave.

Dicotyledon · 12/06/2020 00:38

Is The Sun the paper that said the fans who died had only themselves to blame?

OceanOrchid · 12/06/2020 00:45

Yes. The S*n still isn’t sold in many shops in Liverpool because of their disgusting treatment of football fans. Not only did they say the fans themselves were to blame (that was a common narrative through multiple inquiries) but they claimed fans pick pocketed the dead and attacked emergency workers.

I asked my dad about it once (he was at hillsborough) and the horror he described is impossible to convey. The victimisation of the survivors, which went on for years, is something not easily forgotten.
