We believe JK Rowling

Following JK Rowling's brave disclosure of domestic abuse yesterday her weasel of an ex husband has given an exclusive interview to the Daily Fail admitting to slapping her but denying physical and sexual violence.

I'm gutted for her, after keeping something like that private for many years I know expect many on Twitter will use this article to attack her.

We all know that abusers are also liars, did anyone really expect that he would admit to what he had done?

As someone who has also been the victim of sexual violence I know all too well what it feels like to be called a liar, and also relate to the post-traumatic responses she talked about in her article.

I'm hoping Jo and her daughter have all of the support they need to deal with the aftermath of this.

The DM should think about who actuallybuytheir paper before jumping aboard the JK Rowling hate train

Did you actually read the article?

The Mail gave him enough rope to hang himself and he's too stupid to realise it. It reported critical comments made against Watson et al and ended with a very sympathetic comment from Joanna Williams. The comments are almost universally sympathetic to JKR.

Hate train? It's one of the most sympathetic I've seen.

BlueRaincoat1 · 12/06/2020 00:48

Oh my god the Sun headline.
"I slapped JK and I'm not sorry"

How unspeakably disgusting. The poor woman. I am so sorry this is happening to her.

Someone posted on here the other day ' courage called, and she answered.' I think I will always think that now when I hear her name. She is so brave and righteous.

Fuck the Sun. How dare they give a platform like that, a headline like that, to an abuser. Fuck them.

ChattyLion · 12/06/2020 00:53

I believe her. Flowers
Still disgusted with those actors whose careers are wholly or partly down to JKR were so quick to try to shut her down for saying what a woman is
Fuelling accusations of ‘transphobia’ from Twitter wankers at her when she’s said nothing of the kind, because some men might have hurt feelings about women being allowed to name themselves Hmm
Then when JKR reveals she was ACTUALLY physically hurt by men .. tumbleweed.
Zero support from those pathetic sexist gobshites. Absolute shame on them.

ChattyLion · 12/06/2020 00:55

And The Sun can go fuck itself

MrsToddsShortcut · 12/06/2020 00:57

I believe JK Rowling and I am so sorry that after all this time her abuser has reappeared to publically diminish her experiences.

My ex did the same across 4 years in family courts after years of abuse and left me with an almost Pathological response to people not believing what I was telling them. It took me years to get over. These men are utter cowards.

I'm so very sorry, if you are reading this. And thank-you, from the bottom of my heart. Your bravery knows no bounds and these men aren't capable of that level of courage - the courage to survive what it means to be female.

We will always remember what you have done for us ThanksThanksThanks

Do some of you just see the words "Daily Mail" and make blind assumptions without actually reading? The "Daily Fail" trope is so tedious, particularly in the case of this article.

A parade of Harry Potter stars – who all owe their Hollywood careers to Miss Rowling – lined up to put the boot in, rejecting her concerns about transgender issues

In her deeply personal and compelling 3,600-word essay posted to her website, Miss Rowling described the dangers of young people being convinced to change their gender and then regretting it

Does that read to you as being unsympathetic to JKR?

I don't have a problem with The Mail paying him for this if that's what it took for him to damn himself. Now millions of people who otherwise wouldn't even know his name know what a scumbag he is.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 12/06/2020 01:03

Sucks to be him. Glad she made her billion post divorce.

MrsToddsShortcut · 12/06/2020 01:06

Ironically, the DM is one of the only two newspapers to consistently report women's concerns about gender ideology.

But my concern is about JK Rowling, after experiencing such a Hellscape on Twitter, knowing that her ex used it as an opportunity to resurface, make money and try and finish the damage he did. That can't be pleasant, let alone after the week she's had.

MrsToddsShortcut · 12/06/2020 01:06

Diminish, not finish!

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 12/06/2020 01:07

She dumped his sorry arse and went on to become a self-made billionaire while he sunk back to obscurity. His resentment has probably festered ever since.

Any decent human-being, when offered money by the press to talk about his ex-wife would have slammed the door - so you can measure his character just by the fact he’s willing to talk.

He has to admit “slapping” her; I suspect because there’s considerable evidence that much worse happened.

He’s probably approached the tabloids before, but JKR was too popular and her pockets too deep. Now he’s seen his chance because she’s spoken openly. The article is pretty careful because JKR is still much beloved and her pockets are still deep.

contactusdeletus · 12/06/2020 01:13

I haven't read the interview, for those who asked.

@DidoLamenting I see the point you're making but I disagree. You might think he's been given enough rope to hang himself, but I maintain that he could have done that under his own steam via social media. Without making any money off it. The media could then report on his statement if they wished, but it would be public domain and they wouldn't have to pay him to do so.

This isn't a "Daily Fail" thing. It sickens me that any publication would pay this man for an interview. He's directly profiting from this situation - and so is the paper that paid him. They're not doing this to expose him, they're doing it to get more eyeballs on their website, more copy shifted, and thus more ad revenue. I choose not to click on the article for this reason.

DidoLamenting · 12/06/2020 01:29

but I maintain that he could have done that under his own steam via social media

Well I for one wouldn't have come across him. I find your attitude really bizarre tbh.

The Mail , like any paper , needs to make money. It published an article which is extremely sympathetic to JKR, including a lengthy comment by Joanna Williams, and made clear what twerps Watson and co are.

DidoLamenting · 12/06/2020 01:31

I haven't read the interview, for those who asked

Hint - you might try reading before pontificating.

TehBewilderness · 12/06/2020 03:51

@Datun

He admits to 'slapping her hard' and she had to get a restraining order out against him, but says he's not abusive?

Dear lord. These men are Neanderthal.

That is pretty standard for abusers. Theirs isn't "real" abuse. Bancroft asked one of the men why he didn't kick his wife after he broke her arm and knocked her down. The man said he would never do such a thing because he is not abusive. Abuse is what bad men do.

I apologize for telling you what you already know.

Carrotynose · 12/06/2020 04:07

I read a report about male violence to women that included the quote "I would never hit a woman, well not unless she deserved it."

Casino218 · 12/06/2020 04:40

She hasn't kept it private. There was a film made years ago about her early life and this guy was featured. It was clear in that film that it was an abusive relationship.

Highfalutinlootin · 12/06/2020 05:04

What can we do to support her? Is there anyone we can write to about this? I also believe her, and I shouldn't have to say that.

Dances · 12/06/2020 06:46

The Mail article is sympathetic to JK Rowling.

I hope those treacherous scruds who betrayed her are squirming

Owen Jones switched off his Twitter replies for this, coward that he is.

Cuntysnark · 12/06/2020 07:01

I hope JK has a cushion of support around her. There’s a king size duvet here, I do so hope she’s reading. We’re not stopping!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/06/2020 07:42

@Highfalutinlootin if you email [email protected] you will get a response back from her team.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 12/06/2020 08:28

Both email and card sent - I cannot thank this woman enough for what she has done.
From a personal perspective, my tentatively sceptical daughter who went along with the straplines because of peer pressure and fear of wrong-speak is now fully out and out gender critical. And has found she has an ally in her best friend.
Slowly slowly.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 12/06/2020 08:36

If he doesn’t think a slap is physical violence

Then what acts doesn't he think is sexual assault

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/06/2020 08:38

my tentatively sceptical daughter who went along with the straplines because of peer pressure and fear of wrong-speak is now fully out and out gender critical. And has found she has an ally in her best friend.

That is wonderful to read. Thanks for sharing that.

BoogieFeet · 12/06/2020 08:41

I believe her

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 12/06/2020 08:41

Ive had to stop looking at the mail online

They keep playing videos that you can’t stop and there can be some very and there was a very disturbing one

I quite liked looking at it and then ‘fact Checking’ with other papers
