I wish I could meet her in person to give her these Flowers

She’s bloody wonderful.

Collidascope · 09/06/2020 08:19

Just to add, it's genuinely unsettled me to the see the vitriol levelled at this woman who wrote a beloved series of books, who has given away hundreds of millions to charity, and who actively tried to help parents under lockdown by releasing a free story, encouraging kids to send their drawings to her, and consequently spends hours a day retweeting the pictures and writing lovely comments about them. How do you make her the bad guy?? Even if you disagree with her and believe her to be wrong on this, the people claiming to have had their childhood ruined clearly didn't take the message from her books about characters being nuanced, did they?
The abuse has upset me, so I can't imagine how it feels for her. I assume she knew to some extent what she was getting into but still. Fucking horrible.

Thank you for speaking out Jo, you're a brave woman setting a wonderful example for my 8 year old daughter, and a voice of logic amongst the nonsense.

Courage calls to courage everywhere...

Thank you Flowers

WhatAWonderfulDay · 09/06/2020 08:27

Collidascope exactly! How good does a woman need to be to be idolised?
Compare with DT and BJ - how bad does a man need to be before he is pulled down from his pedestal??!!

I am not saying she needs to be idolised - but look at the calibre of men who get the top jobs and look at all the vitriol she is getting for what exactly?

Never read a word she's authored, never seen a HP film and have no desire ever to. Don't give a single shit about the entire franchise.

But as a strong woman standing up for other women, she has my unwavering support.

Flowers extra bunch after Radcliffe’s comments.

HollySideEyes · 09/06/2020 08:34

That's great but she's didn't just write HP Buzz, she wrote the fabulous Casual Vacancy not to mention the Galbraith series.

Her writing is next level. Would be a shame not to give it a go.

I don't do Flowers and I don't think there's a [beer] so I'll offer Cake instead Grin

conduitoffortune · 09/06/2020 08:42

ThanksThanksThanks I am so proud of JK Rowling. She is now my hero. Her current situation reminds me of Hermione trying to promote house elf rights whilst everyone else ridiculed her. The lone voice of reason!

Flowers for you, JK.

My son ticks very few of the stereotypes for "boy". I'm excited to tell him about you, the author of his favourite books. You exemplify so much that I think is important in life - paying fair taxes; reaching out to those who are less fortunate than yourself; being brave in the face of bullying; standing up for women in our misogynist world. You have explicitly said that he should be free to be and love who he wants, which is what we've always taught him. Contrast that with the groups who come into schools to teach children that it is their hair, their clothes and their hobbies that determines their "gender". My child is at risk of being groomed onto a medical pathway by these groups, behind our backs, simply because he stands out amongst his peers.
