My boss was already pissed off because I got pregnant not long after starting the job. So he had to go to the whole rigmarole of finding someone new and training them in mere months later. Not a high powered job by any means, he didnt have to head hunt the greatest in their field from, like, Geneva or New York to replace me. Just an ordinary girl in an office type job for a builder. But he was the type who believed in doing it once and doing it right. (If anyone is looking for a builder I guess that's a good recommendation??!) So doing again 6 months later annoyed him. In fairness he wasnt a bollix about it. He did try to hide his annoyance, but i was just another problem, like weak shuttering or insufficient aggregate.
Imagine his delight when I came back from maternity leave - late, that very morning!
I had suffered a birth injury, you see. I had a change of clothes with me of course, thinking it was enough. Even now, 8 years later, anonymously, I'm too embarrassed to explain, exactly what happened.
Anyway, I had to go home, make a fresh start at Monday morning. Late. To an already pissed off boss. That set the tone I think.
I also remember absolutely RUSHING home to a bottle refusenik baby. Cant wait. Cant send that email or check that invoice today. Breasts solid and burning. Patches on my top. Baby wailing and wailing. I always thought I'd breast feed while I was on maternity leave, best for baby if you can manage it. Plan was to switch to bottles and milky food
