Someone has seriously just asked gavin Williamson that

On the positive side, twitter exploded when he said it.

That's progress I suppose.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/05/2020 16:59

I know! Incredible. Not even qualified by 'Let's be realistic, we all know the burden of childcare falls disproportionately on women ...'

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:00

Oh did it? Yes that's good. I'm only semi on twitter after a long break

Am so pleased this has been picked up- I did a double take when I heard the question, and DH just shook his head and said “I know, you don’t need to say it!” before I could start ranting!

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:01

Yes gasp. I suspect in reality his question was quite a practical one but he presented it in a way that made it clear father's take no responsibility for their children's care or education. Thankfully that's not my experience or that of most around me.

Fathers
I will not be educating my children on apostrophes

Shock

God forbid a father takes on the role of childcare!

Pipandmum · 16/05/2020 17:05

Totally not the point but more than half of my daughter's teachers are men.

Devlesko · 16/05/2020 17:06

Their husbands, hopefully they have a partner.
We need people who can do the job, preferably without childcare problems.
Time to expect your men folk to step up, not society, or employers.
This is the feminist issue, people calling themselves feminists but not expecting men to pull their weight.
One of you stay at home with the kids and tighten your belts. Or both go pt, but ffs stop making it a bloody feminist issue.

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:06

Ah men :) those people who can work effectively with dedication and unencumbered by responsibility :)

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:08

Devlesko, I think you might have conepletely misunderstood this thread. Ffs yourself.
In what way is this not a feminist issue?

"This is the feminist issue, people calling themselves feminists but not expecting men to pull their weight."
Please explain this one to me

I hope everyone caught the guy from the Mail trying to stir shit. Fair dues to Gav that he didn't bite.

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:29

The guy with the smirk?

OP posts:
MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 16/05/2020 17:32

The one with the eyepatch: "Do teachers not understand or not care about the welfare of children, and shouldn't they disobey the diktats of their union and go to work like heroes?"

Devlesko · 16/05/2020 17:35

It's not a feminist issue because lots of women without children/ or the need for childcare will be returning to work, as employers need workers.
Employers don't need their workers at home because they don't have childcare, man or woman.
It isn't a feminist issue because most children have two parents to take their share of raising their kids.
It's a personal/family issue, if you have partners that won't do their share that's an individual issue not a feminist one, and you should have chosen a man who was happy for your career to be as important as his.

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:36

Oh OK. I thought there was another guy on the wind up

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:36

Dev I seriously think you've misunderstood. The title is in quotes, this is not my opinion.

OP posts:
Floisme · 16/05/2020 17:37

I think there are several feminist issues here, one of which is that getting men to pull their weight in their own home is yet another job which seems to have been assigned to women.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 16/05/2020 17:41

Mad woman from the Telegraph on Sky now accusing teachers of cowardice.

StealthPolarBear · 16/05/2020 17:50

On radio two the other day someone pointed out that teachers were all happy to queue outside tesco to buy wine. Not sure how he'd found out such specific information just by looking at them.

Dev, you're confused in just so many ways. Seriously, there's too much wrong with your posts to even start untangling it. Have a nap, reread the thread, then try again.

Gncq · 16/05/2020 17:59

Devlesko

When there are people out there seriously asking "who will look after children if women are at work?" It is blindingly a feminist issue.

DrDavidBanner · 16/05/2020 18:00

On radio two the other day someone pointed out that teachers were all happy to queue outside tesco to buy wine.

What?!?!?

I'm not a teacher, but I feel really sorry for all the stick they're getting from all corners, they're damned if the do and damned if they don't. School teachers are not responsible for government policy or for the Coronavirus outbreak.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 16/05/2020 18:06

Telegraph Woman appeared to think all teachers were sat at home on furlough. Excellent Primary teacher also on Sky patiently pointed out that she had been at work every day since lockdown, mostly in school, that there was room in her classroom for at most eight socially distanced children, and that four year olds find social distancing a challenge.
