I have been lurking on twitter lately and noticed Baroness Nicholson has been very active recently. Amongst her tweets are quite a few gems - letters to Liz Truss, tweets asking for evidence about Stonewall’s involvement CPS guidance just to name two.

This tweet I found very encouraging too.

It is imperative to restore the rights of women.I foresee a single issue, cluster approach;we make a new Women’s Rights movement lasting one year, solely to rescue womanhood from its destruction through today’s legal and social denial of our existence.Emma,BNoW

She has today written to Liz Truss again but this time with her concerns about the gross misinterpretation of the ECHR in the trans toolkits used in schools and recommends that such toolkits are removed from use now. Such support is great news.

I will try to post the letter for those not on twitter.

I look forward to seeing what what happens next.

Lordfrontpaw

What are they saying it means, exactly? i'm not sure I ever got a good definition. Difficult to refute, if I don't know what they're saying.

Which I realise, is probably the point.

boatyardblues · 07/05/2020 18:40

God she's brilliant isn't she?

Seconded. I love politely worded searching questions. The Baroness is a black belt.

Datun · 07/05/2020 18:40

It's fantastic that she is asking questions.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/05/2020 18:42

Oh, they were promoting a pharma competition for women that includes those who ‘identify as’ women. Questions were asked...

Datun · 07/05/2020 18:43

I mean the word womxn.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/05/2020 18:44

Sorry - this was the tweet that the one above was in response to

Womxn = bollx ?

TyroSaysMeow · 07/05/2020 20:40

Womxn = bollx ?

Grin

I think that's about as succinct as it can possibly get!

Winesalot · 09/05/2020 22:01

The Baroness’ latest tweet.

Single sex wards in hospitals:::: this is the wrong knowledge which has caused deep unhappiness to NHS Professionals and some damage to patients. The rationale for discarding a wholly wrong ‘Guideline’.The 2010 Act of Parliament has been filleted and gives false readings now.

She’s cooking on gas! I love this woman.

Winesalot · 10/05/2020 08:10

She is great. I think she has her own personal slant on things but it feels hopeful that she is pulling the pieces together and making sure it is seen.

It’s the politeness. The reasonableness. Shining an unforgiving light on this nonsense one clear reasonable question at a time.

Needmoresleep · 10/05/2020 08:38

I see that she left the LibDems in 2016, around the time they started to become super-woke.

I wonder why?

Fandoozle1 · 10/05/2020 10:13

Super disappointed in the RPS. I work within pharmacy and of all the places the RPS should really know what a female is.

Winesalot · 10/05/2020 10:17

The RPS did get quite a bit of flack and of course people pointed out how much money they get from the medical treatments.

Fandoozle1 · 10/05/2020 10:28

The whole thing is maddening.

JellySlice · 10/05/2020 12:18

What does same sex accommodation for trans people and gender variant children actually mean?

Winesalot · 15/05/2020 08:40

The letter from Baroness Nicholson to the Pharmaceutical Society regarding clarification on just who can apply for female pharmacist award.

I think her pointing out the Equality Act is a nice start.

Even if this excludes those self identifying, it does however continue to allow someone who has a GRC to qualify. Which as an aside, I think it would be a very interesting longitudinal research project to highlight whether having all residual privilege of being male continues after attaining a GRC. I am assuming it would logically continue.

So, the positive benefit of having awards such as this one has a high risk of significant dilution. Still, I am following with great interest.

Oh I can't wait to see the response to that letter.

Fandoozle1 · 15/05/2020 16:16

Just showed this to DH (in the profession) and his response was "the RPS are a load of shit anyway!"

Winesalot · 16/05/2020 15:53

And support for the judicial review for CPS has gained another prominent voice to add to the well established choir today.

Thank you Baroness Nicholson.

Some interesting stuff here on Sandra Gidley, ex Lib Dem MP:

AnyOldPrion · 16/05/2020 21:31

On board with working to repeal the GRA too. Given all the pressure from Lib Dem peers last year, having a woman from the lords stating so clearly that she believes this is a valid aim seems like a miracle.

totallyyesno · 16/05/2020 21:38

I actually voted for Sandra Gidley and met her a few times and really liked her. I was very disappointed when the expenses scandal came to light. I wonder what she'll say about this.

Winesalot · 16/05/2020 22:09

AnyOldPrion

I saw that. She is a calm voice of reason at the moment. She is taking everything on board and looking at it from a perspective that she is resuming that fight she thought was over decades ago from what she has said.
