It seems like some success in Idaho yesterday with a bill signed to protect women’s sports. The bill ban transgirls and transwomen from competing in girls and women’s sports.

There was also a bill that means that people cannot change their sex on birth certificates.

Idaho becomes first U.S. state to ban trans athletes. By Rachel Savage 31/3/20

Idaho has become the first U.S. state to ban transgender girls and women from competing in female sports leagues, enacting new laws that also prevent trans people from changing their birth certificates.

Governor Brad Little signed the two bills into law on Monday, according to the Idaho government's website, drawing criticism from LGBT+ groups that called the move harmful and discriminatory.

Trans rights have become a flashpoint between U.S. liberals and the country's conservatives, who argue that safety and fairness are compromised by allowing trans girls and women to compete in female sports.

The Trevor Project, which advocates for LGBT+ youth, said young trans people were less likely to consider suicide if they were supported in their identities.

"It is a sad day in the United States when lawmakers are more determined to stop trans young people from playing games than to provide them with the care, support, and opportunities they need to survive and thrive," said its head of advocacy and government affairs Sam Brinton.

Idaho's "Fairness in Women's Sports Act" bans trans girls and women from competing in girls' or women's sports leagues affiliated with the state's public school and higher education systems.

"Under this bill, boys and men will not be able to take the place of girls and women in sports because it is not fair," state lawmaker Barbara Ehardt, who introduced the bill, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation earlier this month.

Idaho's second bill, preventing transgender people from changing the sex on their birth certificate to reflect their identity, was also criticised by LGBT+ advocates and is likely to face a legal challenge.

.... the article continues about birth certificates

It is a sad day in the United States when lawmakers are more determined to stop trans young people from playing games

There is nothing to stop trans people, young or otherwise, from playing games. One reason I have no respect for the trans activist position is the ease they have in telling lies or misrepresenting facts. They will say anything so long as it supports they position.

*It is a sad day in the United States when lawmakers are more determined to stop trans young people from playing games than to provide them with the care, support, and opportunities they need to survive and thrive," said its head of advocacy and government affairs>

Never any mention of women and girls, even when talking about their own services, spaces and provisions. There is nothing to stop Trans allies campaigning for third spaces.

Gaslighting.

How about:

It’s a happy day in the United States when lawmakers are determined to ensure girls play games with safety, equity and fairness.

Go girls!!!

Common sense prevails!

Winesalot · 31/03/2020 21:49

Actually, from what I have read the bill allows transmen to compete with men. It simply acknowledges that the opposite cannot be fair and in cases of contact, safe. Analysts have pointed out that it is therefore not transphobic merely acknowledging biological differences.. concern has been expressed about transmen, however, as they are themselves the people at risk it has been deemed acceptable that they make that choice themselves.

It also has been pointed out that ‘men’s’ sport many times is an open category where women can compete if they wish.

Let’s see what happens in Connecticut. If the pull continues it may make the international athletics committee and the Olympic committee to realize the damage that is done. And come up with a solution and NOT merely introducing handicaps where none have ever been used before. That can’t be the answer imo.

This is good news, hopefully more States will follow, and other sporting bodies as well.

It's typical how they go straight to the suicide threat, isn't it? If the people campaigning for trans rights actually cared about young people who are identifying as trans they would stop casually chucking about the suicide word, but no, it's straight to the biggest form of emotional blackmail available.

littlbrowndog · 31/03/2020 22:18

It’s a great day when girls don’t have to put up with boys running against 🙋‍♀️🥰🥰

Voice0fReason · 31/03/2020 22:21

This is excellent news.
Trans athletes can still compete but now girls have a level playing field.

"It is a sad day in the United States when lawmakers are more determined to stop trans young people from playing games than to provide them with the care, support, and opportunities they need to survive and thrive,

There must be zillions of people who feel they would thrive over being validated as something they're not.

Transgender people need accurate identity documents to navigate everyday life, and this gratuitous attack puts them back in harm's way for harassment and even violence,"

Oh yes, I'm all for accuracy 🙄

It seems to me that fewer and fewer people are willing to accept these wishy washy, illogical and blatantly daft emotive arguments.

Not to mention the blinding, 'hit you over the head obvious' self interest.

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 31/03/2020 22:40

Does this mean IDAHOBIT is off this year?

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 31/03/2020 22:51

After that 48 minute long lecture earlier do i have to read this article or is this a good enough synopsis of the authors opinion?

Hannah021 · 31/03/2020 22:56

good news... I hope to see other venues heading towards the same

I'd be really mad if I go to my swimming class and see a male pretending to be a woman sitting there... why can't they just fight for their own spaces... women fought for their own spaces... and these people want to have it the easy way

Changename5000 · 31/03/2020 23:10

Do we have anything like this in the UK, that we could sign.

Scott72 · 01/04/2020 00:07

I've noticed the transwomen who compete against women tend to be arrogant, narcissistic people. When the unfairness of what they are doing is pointed they will often imply they only won because they trained harder, and those women who lost would have won if they'd just trained as hard as them.

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 01/04/2020 00:16

"Under this bill, boys and men will not be able to take the place of girls and women in sports because it is not fair," state lawmaker Barbara Ehardt, who introduced the bill, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation earlier this month.

I hope we start to see more of this direct language - it makes the issue immediately clear to people who have not been following this issue and gets the point made quickly enough for them not to turn off.

GlitterToast · 01/04/2020 00:37

Excellent news. Hopefully this will encourage others to follow suit. Smile

BeetrootRocks · 01/04/2020 00:49

This is really difficult. Idaho do not like women. They are a state trying to push back on abortion.

Their objection to trans things comes from a very different place.

So, yay but also not so yay. It's complicated isn't it.

DrLadybits · 02/04/2020 20:38

Fantastic news. Women are now free to compete on an equal footing with other women, and no longer face the huge inequality of being forced to compete against men who retain considerable advantages over them.

PositiveVibez · 03/04/2020 08:59

lawmakers are more determined to stop trans young people from playing games

It's not pass the parcel, or hide and seek ffs.

It's about competitive sports and male bodied athletes not taking scholarships, titles, places on podiums.

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/04/2020 11:02

Good.

There's nothing to stop people from setting up separate sporting categories based on their 101 gender identities or using the categories for men. Leave women's sports alone.

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/04/2020 11:11

The spin is revolting.

"It's a sad day when the rights and consideration for females is allowed to get in the way of nurturing trans male children by giving them whatever they want" is more like it.

If the only thing that makes a male child happy is removing rights from the female ones....? Surely the normal and non male supremacist response is to help the male child adjust their understanding and respect for other people, and to develop some emotional health skills?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 03/04/2020 12:48

Let's stick you in the front row of a scrum and see if you think that's 'playing games.'

Winesalot · 15/04/2020 22:32

As expected ACLU has filed a suit.

Well done Idaho, and thank you Barbara Ehardt for taking this stand. Now I hope politicians in Britain will start speaking up for women and for justice.
