I think the bra designs go in cycles (whether you could do a study on how different bras signify women's status at any one time could be interesting!).
In the 50s(?) when there was that whole push to get women back into the home because they had got all that freedom in the war years there were those long line bras with lots of push up. (And panty girdles.) Then in the 60s / 70s it went back to a looser style. And so on.
My Ma was instant that it wasn't right to wear bras with lots of support and elastic and was a firm supported of a type of bra (that was arround until quite lately) that was just a crisscross of staps across the front (a bit like a grecian dress style) with very thin straps, and basically 2 "pockets" in the crisscross.
But for those needing more support probably not ideal.
And yes my sercret pleasure is no undies at home, particularly in the summer. Very freeing. But then one day I went out and forgot to put a pair of pants on, and became very tense and worried!!
